I made the mistake of chatting with a cute intelligent chick at the gym once and lo and behold she told her friends about it in a positive light, which led to a surge of curiosity about me as a person. People started talking to me and they knew my name suddenly and it made me very uncomfortable.

Eventually they must have dug up some information on me that looked bad because it 180 and I was getting dirty looks eventually.

Have been very careful to not even get in casual conversation with a woman at the gym sense which is shitty because I really actually enjoyed talking to a chick with a brain for once. Her eye contact was captivating and unique to me. But people can't keep their fucking mouths shut and they always see you as competition just for being a decent person. It seemed like the dudes thought I was somehow trying to poach their women or some shit and no amount of avoidance could convince them otherwise. I hope at the end that they realized I truly don't give a fuck and stopped seeing me as a threat. It was a particularly irritating experience with the general population which I do try to avoid for these exact reasons.

In the pre-pandemic era when office politics were played in person, a very attractive (and unsurprisingly, entitled) colleague tried to call brand me as "creepy" during a bathroom conversation. My center of gravity (i.e. I was the beta orbiter) had the decency to a) break into the convo and b) tell me about it, with a promise to have my back if my accuser tried to escalate to HR. After all, I never spoke with her outside of conversations about work since her disgust was quite palpable.

All this is to say that some women take the 'friend' part of LJBF seriously, and I'm here for it.

As is typical for this sub, an incredibly mundane social interaction is being filtered by an insane lens of sex and bogus rhetoric.

The fact that you seem to classify any platonic relationship between a man and a woman as the man being an "orbiter" reveals how sexist you are (to both women AND men).

You have an inflated sense of the importance of your own experience. You don't see women as good company, so you project that onto other men. They must be orbiters because women are just so lame.

I'm sure there's a scientific term for this, but I know it's a thing and even goddamn animals do it: If someone you trust shows that they are okay with a stranger, it makes you more trusting of the stranger.

It doesn't have to be about sex, although it obviously can be.

The fact that you were hanging around another women helps alleviate concerns women have about a man they've never met.

I have several male friends, none of us want to fuck each other. We just hang out like human beings and engage in our mutual interests.

Your own weakness of character is what leads you to be unable to understand women.

First, being an orbiter shouldn't be costing you money or patience. While I'm already with between 1-3 girls at any given time, I try to make time to text the other 10 or so girls whenever I'm doing anything fun, which happens a lot. I text them all the exact same quote/pic/etc. and see how they respond, no extra effort. We go back and forth a bit for some of them, some don't respond or respond hours or days later, some lead to further convos.

Some of the ones im orbiting always turn into something whenever their situation changes. You can tell when the same girl gives you one line answers or no response, and suddenly their tune changes...then its game on!! its usually a lot of fun because you have already written this girl off in your head since she friendzoned you.. and suddenly she comes back alive from the dead... I've had girls tell me that they would never go out with me, insult me and worse, whom I eventually slept with.... Reeling them back in is a lot of fun :)

I really don’t think it works like that. I do think used smartly there can be social benefits in having women friends that one might not get in having all male friends, but I don’t think her hello had as much of an impact as you think it did.
