The article’s right about men no longer trusting degrees to be relevant to actual work - college is a joke. Maybe it’s the right token for a woman to cash to get into her cushy HR job, but unless a man’s planning on being a doctor, lawyer, or scientist, college really gives him zero for a helluva lot of wasted time and money

What it doesn’t mention though is the cancer zones college campuses have become. Wasn’t fun watching some of my friends take bullets for title IX’s even after being exonerated by the authorities

Well it used to be when you have a Degree you were guaranteed a job by companies. Now days however those same companies demand 3-5 years experience for a graduate/entry level position.

You can also be the best worker, be fired for no reason or have a new manager come in and get rid of you and no amount of working harder will get you a raise or protect your position.

However if you study a trade and work for yourself, you have more job security, cannot be fired by some idiot and you are rewarded for the additional time and effort you put in.

Could it be: 1) almost all non-sports scholarships go to women 2) title IX witch hunts 3) super majority of professors being women that prioritize being female 4) going into a world that won't hire you specifically because you're white and male 5) acquiring hundreds of thousands of dollars of crippling debt that is caused by DEI bloat in colleges

They saw millennials like me get loaded up with debt that can’t be discharged on bankruptcy for jobs that pay diddly squat. But it’s a bad thing because college did make me smarter. It taught me how to think better.

adding to this. the average men dont really have the option to marry up and expect to be taken care of by a high income wife just in case college/career doesnt work out. so there is really not enough reason to take the risk without a safe fallback.

We need to research mens and boys issues but colleges block most of it as hate. I think a lot of it will be done outside academia. I know on DV a lot happens outside academia in mens shelters.

Im concerned about female dominated areas like psych, healthsci, education and the lying they do in socialsci. Theres no-one to counterbalance it. Not sure how to get more boys in these fields without a degree.

Academia has been rotting itself from the core since the 80s.

A generation ago a college degree meant you had greater earning potential and an almost guaranteed job. Admission requirements were also more strict, so the quality of student attending college was theoretically better. College was also much more affordable. Now college is expensive. You also aren't guaranteed a job after graduation. And college degrees don't necessarily prepare you for a professional job. Add in affirmative action policies and an emphasis on educating women, and you've got an environment that does not favor men. Men realize this, and are opting to not participate ina program that doesn't offer good return on investment.

Tech School and blue collar jobs offer much better opportunities. Training is less expensive and less time-comsuming, and many tech programs feed into actual employment opportunities. The pay is good, and you start your professional career without mountains of debt.

Trades pay more, you get out of debt very quickly, and they’re recession proof. If anything you’re in higher demand during recessions.

If it was simply the cost of education not being justified, we wouldn’t see more and more women going to college.

Obviously there is also something specific to males articles like this fail to mention and that something is discrimination.

We’ve seen many studies posted in this sub proving education is discriminatory against males, so we need to ask ourselves why articles such as this purposely omit such proven discrimination when addressing the issues of males in education.

all of the people responding in this thread are like "young men aren't fooled by the dumb propaganda!" even though having degrees like accounting and education can get a pretty mediocre person a high five figure job with lots of vacation time and public sector security. we don't know that these kids are dropping out to do paramedic training or become cops or electricians. men are struggling right now

Hmm well let's see.

First the promise of a job after college vanished like a flash in a pan. That was ok for a while because then people thought at least I can go for the party and temporary vacation.

Then of course all the title IX bullshit happened and campus became an extremely dangerous place for young men.

I can only imagine parents contemplating this. Hmmm yes yes we should send billy to a place we pay a few hundred thousand to so he can learn that he's a rapist in waiting, pure evil, and not be taught a goddamn thing you can't find on YouTube that's of value.

Why the fuck would anyone pay to send their son to a place that fundamentally hates him and wants to see him suffer?

The fact that any man goes to college for anything other than the hardest of science or medical school or law is truly beyond me.

It doesn't guarantee pay and also causes huge debt.

Blue collar jobs often make more sense for lots of reasons.

No debt, higher earnings, often direct linear relationship between effort and pay compared to all the unpaid OT many people do, higher chance of being unionised work, often significantly less toxic working environments than most offices.

From my experience, men really struggle with discipline and drive to learn something new, nowadays; add on top of that the constant assault on us - "Masculinity is toxic; it's women's time now" - I think it has a demoralising effect on young men, hence why they don't want to join college , nor study for that matter.

I’ve met so many people who went to college and even graduated too only to end up working regular jobs they would’ve worked without a degree. It’s not only worthless, but also gets one into a ton of debt.

Go to school if there’s good prospects for a job such as nursing or becoming a doctor. Heck, tech isn’t even guaranteed anymore either. You don’t even need to go to school to work in tech you could go to a coding boot camp if not teach yourself.

I'm 39 going back to school for an AAS in Accounting and paying literally nothing despite my wife and I earning roughly $70/year. I don't even have to pay for books.

Hoping to leverage it to get into the federal government for a job that actually still gives raises.

Only reason I went to college (bachelor's and masters) was because it was paid for by someone else. Otherwise I just don't see how it's even remotely a financially reasonable decision to make nowadays.

People I know who have student loans are struggling.

This article was written by a woman. It’s a propaganda piece designed to manipulate men into going into the trades or other lines of work while not saying anything about women doing the same thing. You will never find an article written designed to tell women to not goto school or to not pursue advanced degrees. And you sure as hell won’t find an article telling women to join the military or anything of that nature either. You need to read between the lines with these articles in the idea of them being propaganda and what message they are trying to manipulate us into believing.
