Make the ask casual and specific. Basically don't say "Hey, I like you do you want to go on a date?" this can put a lot of pressure on both of you and potentially make things awkward. Instead try "Have you been to this place? It's supposed to be really cool, they have whatever. Do you want to check it out with me?" This will 1) be more appealing and 2) give her an opportunity to reject the date rather than rejecting you personally and creating an awkward work place dynamic.

The "don't shit where you eat" cliche is so overblown. It entirely depends on your job and the culture of said work environment. For instance resteraunts are notorious for waitresses sleeping with cooks or bartenders and its just not that big of a deal. A corporate office however is a different story. But if you work at a casual job, maybe food maybe entertainment, and are in close proximity with people who find each other attractive sex and relationships are bound to happen.

Advice is consider the repercussions and keep the request super casual.
