No one is preventing you from being playful

Guys being guys and goofing off while the serious adult women who suck all the fun out of everything stand around looking on disapprovingly has been a trope for several decades

And somehow you never see any of that in order to conclude that women are children who play with anything and everything

r/justguysbeingdudes look at all those stoic men who never exclude playfulness anywhere, at any time, for any reason

While there is some valid criticism of how society allows men to express emotions, you've muddled the whole thing with this ridiculous notion that, somehow, being an adult is some exclusively male burden, and that women are free from all of that. Not like we've got jobs to do, bills to pay, parents to support, children to take care of, partners to be partners to, we're just playing around with everything...because we're allowed to be more open with out emotions with our female friends?

Yeah I've never related to being able to freely express my emotions simply because I'm a woman.

Crying isn't like TV. It's ugly. Streaks all over your face, nose running. The expectation I always felt was to be pretty and cheerful. Granted, culture and SES likely play a role in this.

I guess enforcement of toxic masculinity could be called a form of brainwashing.

But if so, it’s brainwashing you’re not required to subject yourself to. I’m a queer man who mostly runs in queer/hippy circles and none of the men in those circles caters to the tropes you’ve described. They’re sensitive, affectionate, hug each other, play with animals, love nature, cry when they’re sad and accept comfort ect ect.

HOWEVER that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of dudes like you’ve described, and where it IS enforced its enforced by women as well as men.

Counter culture is definitely a better bet, from my perspective.

Crying is not seen as manly because it simply isn't. The path to happiness as a man is doing manly stuff like lifting, chopping firewood, working on personal projects, playing video games, watching movies and eating lots of food.

If anything, modern culture is trying to convince men that they ought to be emotionally vulnerable and have ugly crying sessions with the lads.

I was taking some crap screwing up my hormones making me really emotional and $h!+. I really didn't like it. I actually FELT loneliness. Feeling my emotions & $h!+. UGH. Eventually the crap wore off and I was back to my Kill-bot self.

I like being an unstoppable working machine with a stable OS better. I'm more productive.

My father is the silliest man and the most prevalent male figure in my life. He is so lovable because of this. No one has made me cry laugh like he has. I have seen him get emotional on many occasions, probably more than my mother because they are different in nature. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a man.

If you find macho man culture repressive and don’t think it suits you because you are too playful to fit the mold, then don’t participate! It doesn’t make you less of a man and there are plenty of women who recognize this. I can’t speak for all women, but all of those that are close to me look for vulnerability in men because emotional intimacy is important to them. Not everyone lives within the same boxes. You can find your people.

If you want to be real with it, everyone is brainwashed into slavery. Women do not just sit around after finding secondary school and giggle with girl friends while waiting for a man to whisk her away. They, just like men, go to work and live life and struggle to pay rent sometimes.

Most young people don’t own houses and aren’t making that much money and are still managing to date. I am not sure why everyone thinks they have to be like that to “deserve” love.

That’s the dominant moral paradigm serve the needy, serve the nation, serve “god”, serve society, serve the workers, serve the poor, serve the state, serve the oppressed, serve others and the false alternative they offer is that if you don’t serve others you’re making others serve you. It might be more focused on men in some circles because women can play the historical victim card.

Thats not society, society has been telling men for decades to be more vulnerable, to not bottle up emotions, that you're fine the way you are. In the past few years, small group of men on the fringe has started preaching sentiments that appeals more to men.

Men and women are different, and are perceived differently. People will rush to save a crying woman, its the opposite for men. If a man is vulnerable, he is seen as weak, even by the most progressive crowds. If a man doesn't have any value to his name, no woman will want him, whereas even homeless women would get marriage proposals.

The current dating situation is indeed strange.

Women have upped their standards. So you need to be offering A LOT to get even with an average female. You will need to learn confidence, have decent job/house, be a great entertainer, be great in bed and lead everything, expected to pay more than 50%, be emotionally available.

All the while females don't seem to be raising their standards in anyway shape or form to be better people or partners. They just are. No desire to evolve....

Essentially we have a generation of female who because of social media believe they are gods. Telling men they are useless and need to improve whilst they sit on their backsides and stagnate. And because men are so desperate, they go along with it 😂

It's kind of always been that way. the 1st cocktail party question is "what do you do?" and if you are a guy, if it isn't something w/ some status you are dismissed as "low value".

Your job and possessions, like what car you drive, etc, are things you are measured by if you're a guy. You could probably take two people doing the same manual labor job and the woman would be judged as 'hard working' and the guy would be judged as 'no ambition'.

Honestly I think so. lol ask any married men. He refers to his wife as “the boss”. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having input from your spouse. I just feel all this modern women feminist shit emasculates men. How often do you hear as explanations. “Women need/deserve this _____” which translates into some kind of special treatment however meanwhile they still say things are not equal and most likely never will feel that way.

Humans (both men and women are biologically wired to gravitate towards alpha male figures as leaders. So unless there are women that can carry that torch with same magnitude things will always be unfair in their eyes.
