Happy International Men's Day!

Enjoy the google doodle that isn't there (but it always is for International Women's Day).

Enjoy the multiple emails and messages and reminders for men's issues (I get half a dozen at work each year for IWD, I only got the one email about IMD in almost a decade of working for the government).

Enjoy the seminars, the banners, the specials, the sales, and all the merchandise for IMD (there isn't any).

Make sure to take part in Movember, the charity started to talk about testicular cancer in men and men's mental health (but remember that Movember basically sits on their cash without spending it, and spends as much helping women as they do men).

Enjoy the fact that men are so important that the UN recognizes IMD as a special day (except the UN has an office only for women's issues, not men, gives aid and food to women, not men, and deliberately decided to put international toilet day on Nov 19th).

It sure is nice to be a man and live in a male-dominated patriarchy where society values and respects men, and takes time to give bros recognition for all they do and all they endure. Oh wait, they do that for IWD, not for IMD.

Let's all take this time today to reflect on International Men's day and how important and prevalent it is in our daily lives. If you see anything at all relating to International Men's day, please comment about it below, and compare and contrast with what you also see happening for International Women's day.

I'd love to see International Men's day taken even 1/4 as seriously as International Women's day, but I doubt it is. So please, prove me wrong, comment below so we can talk about how society takes time to recognize this important date!

Were the men waiting for women to write the emails and organize the events and write the speeches and create the banners, and and and?

No but men would like to stop being constantly attacked and denigrated for daring to stand up for ourselves.

I do agree with you that society as a whole doesn't do as much for the day as it should. But then again, I would also love to see MEN take International Men's Day even 1/4 as seriously too. Maybe when men start caring about the day more, it would become more known?

I don’t think men need permission slips from feminism to take their own day seriously. If if really mattered, men should be fully capable of showing up for themselves without seeing how the womenfolk feel about it. That’s how literally every other awareness day works.

Before I give you evidence, I want to make sure you are going to accept it and not just dismiss it out of hand. If you will, it does not matter how much evidence, you'll just continue to say it doesn't matter.

Evidence which is widely available to the human eye is not going to need proof as readily as the alternative.

And for some reason men are half the domestic abuse victims, and it is just as widely available to the human eye as women being victims of domestic abuse, and yet we don't believe men.

So yes, men’s experiences are valid. But they’re not immune from evidence requests. “Suppression” is a big word. Sure you can live up to it?

Until a company, organization, or government prevents someone from having an event for international men’s day, I don’t think they can say that they’re being oppressed.

Does it count if men'd groups on university campuses get shut down?

Also, if a company or organization prevents someone from having an event for international men's day, how would we know about it? If people WERE prevented, we wouldn't hear about it, because those events wouldn't be happening.

The events you see during international women’s day don’t happen by osmosis, the take planning and a genuine commitment to the cause

I agree

that I don’t see most men having.

The next question to ask then is why don't men have that commitment, not just blame men for it. After all we didn't just blame women for not being smart enough to apply to school, we went and changed things so much so that now women are 60% of undergraduate students.

But we would never have gotten there if we had just blamed women for not trying hard enough and stopped there.

We can blame men or we can fix the problem. We can't do both.

I don’t personally know of universities shutting down men’s groups but feel free to add a link. People come onto social media to complain every day especially when they feel like an organization isn’t listening to them.

I think that men don’t have the necessary commitment because there’s no actual cause. One scenario I can think of is a women’s group that wants to honor legacy of women who were erased from history as one of their causes. Notable men haven’t been erased from history because they were the main focus of history so that’s not a cause men would rally behind. While this is only one example, if men don’t have an actual cause they care about then there’s nothing to be solved.

There’s no blame to be had and society can’t want more for men than men want for themselves.

I'm pretty sure that there being 10x more male suicide victims than victims of murder in most Western countries is a pretty valid cause. I bet you've never heard it put that way though.

In 2023 the US had over 50,000 suicide victims, 80% of them male, so 40,000 male suicide victims, and 20,000 murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases. Even in the US with its ridiculously high number of murders and school shootings, men kill themselves by suicide 2x more than there are murders, total, in the entire country, every single year.

And nobody talks about it like that.

Notable men haven’t been erased from history because they were the main focus of history so that’s not a cause men would rally behind.

Men and women often face similar but inverted issues. Women are drowned under unwanted sexual attention while men are utterly starved of it. Women are erased from history, but that doesn't mean men face the exact same problem, or in the same way. The men that are erased from history are the losers, the homeless, the suicide victims, and per war men being glorified as work horses and expendable assets whose lives are worth less than women's.

If you are not willing to even recognize that just because men don't face the same issues as women, doesn't mean they don't face any issues at all, then I question your ability to differentiate between "no cause" and "a cause that is erased and invalidated".

Of course there's no blame to be had, because if there was blame to be had, it would land on women, and we can't have that. We must always blame everything on men, everything wrong and evil must be the fault of men, while women are the innocent oppressed victims who can do no wrong.

I personally don’t think men would be risking a lot but even if they were, why don’t they consider it to be worth it?

First do you understand what men are actually risking? Or are you thinking that since are the privileged sex that they cannot face any serious consequences?

Men could face social ostracization, which can lead to passive hostility in the workplace. HR is overwhelmingly women, and in a female-dominated office, whose side do you think they would take? While it may be hard to get fired in the public service, it isn't hard to make one's job difficult or unpleasant until the man moves to a different job.

He may get called in for a talk about how the discussion makes people feel uncomfortable, and it may be a black mark on his file that would prevent him from getting a promotion.

And if this is in any other job, it could lead to actually being fired, so losing their livelihood. A man losing his job increases his odds of getting divorced by 50%, so not only are you asking to risk his job, you're asking him to risk his marriage and relationship as well, unless the man's wife is singularly devoted to him, significantly more than most women appear to be.

All this for attempting to start up something for IMD that may well be futile anyways if the event is blocked or boycotted, and anyone getting associated with the event could be tarred with the same brush.

Do you understand that these are consequences that men face?

Even if you were able to get your employer to sponsor an event, what would it talk about?

The fact that you apparently have no idea about the multitudes of issues men face highlights both how important IMD should be, and the strength of feminism in dismissing and suppressing IMD.

Right, because men cannot face male-specific mental health issues, especially not in the mental health field that is dominated by female practitioners, and in a field that historically was 90% about female patients.

it can’t be dating because that’s not workplace appropriate, and it can’t be child custody because the employer has nothing to do with it.

Is this really what you think is the 2nd and 3rd most important issues men face, and that there is nothing else important enough to be addressed?

Without those things what is there to talk about?

Well, except for the male-specific issues of mental health that you ignored, there can be an effort to have male-specific groups to encourage male bonding and friendship (but that won't happen because men-only groups are misogynistic and sexist by default while women-only groups are to be encouraged), there can be an effort to have male-specific support groups for any of the issues men face including dating and child custody, since it is support for dealing with these issues, not the workplace trying to make any changes, and it can be male-specific groups to talk about masculinity, how to be perceived at work, how to avoid being perceived as sexist, or any number of any other issues men face and would like to talk about among men.

Do you think it would be tolerated for men to be half as dismissive of women's issues as you seem to be dismissive of men's issues?

Even if the things you brought up did happen, you could compare it to starting a union. Even if those things happen wouldn’t you consider it worth it in pursuit of workers rights? If so, why don’t you have the same mindset about men’s rights which you claim are extremely overlooked? Again, it shows that y’all aren’t truly down for the cause and I can only assume that’s because you don’t think it’s a cause worth risking your job for.

I’m not dismissing the idea, I’m asking what it would entail. About mental health I’m not saying that men don’t face issues, I’m asking why those issues wouldn’t be discussed in an event about mental health in general because a lack of providers that clients can connect to is a common issue. I really do think that dating is the thing most men are concerned about because it’s what almost every discussion ends up focusing on. Do you have evidence that proves otherwise?

I think that talking about how to not be perceived as sexist is an important topic and I have no problem with male-focused employee groups to talk about it. My point is that I don’t know how that would lead into a company wide event and I don’t understand why men don’t care enough to sacrifice for something they claim to care about. I’m not dismissing male issues as a whole, I’m asking why they don’t see those issues as a good enough reason to risk losing something and you haven’t answered that question yet.

It was also the law that men weren't allowed to vote for literally thousands of years until the late 1800s. Women were always allowed to work, the only women who didn't HAVE to work were the wives of nobility and the rich. Per owning property, it's not quite accurate, because it was more of a family account. It was all in the man's name, but if she bought it with his money, and accumulated debt by spending money, the debt was his as well, not hers.

Per laws restricting men, how about the fact in the US only 6 out of 50 states have 50/50 custody by default so men legally do not have the same right to have access to their own kids in 44 states, how about laws on conscription and how men in Ukraine are not allowed to leave their country, how about laws in multiple countries where men cannot retire as early as women, laws requiring mandatory military service for men, and laws where to this day it is legally impossible for a woman to rape a man in the UK, and that it was legally impossible for a woman to rape a man in Spain and Switzerland until 2016?

You don't see the laws restricting men, because you are not looking and because you do not care.

I would LOVE to see your sources. I’m aware that men struggle. So does everyone else. If men don’t want to be treated like the problem as often as they are, they need to stop BEING the problem. “Oh but who would protect the women?” Protect them from who? In Canada in 2023 alone, every 6 days, a woman was killed by their male partner. 1 in 3 women have experienced sexual or physical violence by a partner in their lifetimes. 77% of women globally expressed experiencing verbal sexual harassment by men. And then, somehow, men make it OUR fault for you being so lonely and many of us not wanting to be around y’all. Even men don’t like men!! In one study, women and men were both asked if they would move to a planet consisting of only their same gender. EVERY WOMAN said “yes” and only one man said yes, but followed up with “it would probably be annoying after the first hour.”

Like I said, of course men struggle. We all do. But it is unfair to say men have it worse when every single system we have was created by men. You guys designed the entire world for your benefit, ease, and satisfaction. If it’s not working anymore, then the systems are the problem and that is where your anger should be directed. Men’s mental health is severely underrepresented, so make that change. Men are more likely to express feelings of deep loneliness, so make more friends and check up on the ones you have. Take accountability for your own problems and work towards bettering yourself and whatever systems you believe are repressing your quality of life, but understand it is nobody’s job but your own.

Between 2011 and 2021, police reported 1,125 gender-related homicides of women and girls in Canada. Of these homicides, two-thirds (66%) were perpetrated by an intimate partner, 28% a family member, 5% a friend or acquaintance and the remaining 1% a stranger.

So that's 1125 homicides of women over 11 years, 66% perpetrated by intimate partners, so that's 102 homicide per year, and 67.5 committed by an intimate partner, or one murder every 5.5 days.

Fun fact too, women are literally so protected from everything else in society that the only way they CAN get murdered is by an intimate partner. Women are literally so safe that murder by partner and childbirth are literally the two remaining ways harm can come to women, but we don't care that women are literally 4x more protected from crime than men.

In Canada in 2023 there were 796 homicide victims, 80% of which are men, so that's 637 men murdered, or 2 men murdered per day (11x more than women murdered by partner).

There were also 4,447 suicide deaths, 75% of which are men, so that's another 3,335 men dying of suicide per year, or 9 male suicide victims per day (45x more than women murdered by partner).

But if the victim has a penis then they don't matter, right?

Men are getting tired to be expected to give endless empathy and sympathy to feminists who refuse to give even an ounce of empathy or sympathy back.

If you want some sympathy, you're going to have to start giving some back.

You can't have both. If men did design the patriarchy like this, either men are singularly incompetent at it, ad by extension women are even more incompetent at failing to overthrow an incompetent system, or the vast majority of men are oppressed by the patriarchy, so the majority of men are VICTIMS of the patriarchy, not its designers or upholders or what have you, so literally everything you blame men for, you are blaming a majority of innocent men who are victims, instead of blaming the actual few men at the top who are responsible for it all.

So which is it, is patriarchy (and by extension women) incompetent, or do you accept that you are victim blaming innocent men? Those are your choices.

I actually think according to nisvs data that 43% of women that experience first rape experience before the age that of 18 which past 12 month data doesn’t acknowledge, considering people participating must be 18 or older. Lifetime data controls for that. Besides are you saying that one year in 2011 under reporting suddenly stopped and is the reason the data looks the way it does? In fact I would even go as far to say the likelihood of underreporting stopping one random year is much lower than the possibility that there was something else going on with the methodology that caused a standalone spike, that’s since been controlled for. Like more repeated calling because made to penetrate was a new category. Or perhaps do exceptions occasionally happen in statistics? The survey actively attempts to reduce underreporting and is arguably the most comprehensive sexual assault survey ever.

It’s clear that in most societies women can work, if it was purely biological there would be no reversal of this role. It’s clearly environmental.

And it's just as clear therefore that it's not biological that men are undesireable, you just choose to be biased in favour of women and against men because of your misandry.

On the other there are not societies in which males are desired. Men are not desirable. Most of them are meant to die alone in response to sexual selection.

Setting aside the fact that men were very desireable for at least the last 10,000 years and that women have desired men for the past 300,000 years (or else the entire species would have died out), you do realize that the overwhelming majority of what you use to complain to me, from the food you eat, to the clothes you wear, to the computer you type on, to the internet that carries your words, to the electricity that makes all that possible, is largely due to men?

Isn't it a bit arrogant to stand on the shoulders of everyone that has come before you, and claim that they're all beneath you and you are clearly superior, when without those who came before you we'd still be in hunter gatherer societies with an 80% child mortality rate?

Good question, was it proof of women's inability to get off their asses and do things that would improve their lives given women couldn't just shut up and get the right to vote without complaint, couldn't get into universities without complaint, couldn't work as hard as men to get paid as much, and more?

For some reason when women face obstacles we need to figure out what is stopping them and what systemic issues are holding them back so we can help them better, but when men face obstacles it's their own damn fault they don't get off their lazy asses and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps harder.
