In what situations would you classify a man as a "beta"?

A man who sucks up to a domineering wife who is controlling, abusive, and hostile. Also, a man who sticks with a cheating wife or girlfriend. A man who refuses to become a leader when circumstances depend on him taking ownership.

In the context you're asking about, relationships, any guy who is in a one sided relationship. Doing more for someone who doesn't reciprocate. A man who is happily married is a man who is married to a women that respects him, works to show her affection, and puts equal effort into being a good spouse and contributing to the well-being of the marriage. A "beta male" would be hen pecked. He has a wife that doesn't work, doesn't care about his feelings, and doesn't show her appreciation for him. In the relationship, only her desires matter. He's constantly doing things to appease her, despite his emotional and physical needs not being addressed by her. Nobody has ever called a the person you described in the last sentence a "beta.'

This is not hard at all if you can stand being a bit vague.

Betas are "2nd choise" guys. Every social hierarchy has a dude(s) at the top or near the top, named "alpha", since that's the first letter of the greek alphabet. Below in hierarchy are normal, reliable, moderately successful guys. 4 out of 5 stars guys.

But as star rating devolved into "thumb up/down", somehow part of manosphere was not ready for any nuances in classification and it devolved into "alpha" as ":)" and beta as ":(". Pitiful.

Why TF not? Most married men are betas. Significant part of those couples love each other. If "4 out of 5" men are not enough for a woman she's either 1) top tier 2) delusional 3) alpha widowed too much.

A beta is basically someone that lets women run him and the relationship. A SIMP that tolerates disrespect and cheating and believes the gaslighting of toxic feminism.

Many married guys are betas definitely but many are also leaders within the relationship and are not betas. Taking care of your family is not being a beta. It’s being a decent human.

I think a beta would be someone who engages in covert contracts and attempts to negotiate desire, also known as a "simp". I don't think merely being married to a woman and loving her make a man a beta.

A beta is a man who knowingly engages in an asymmetrical relationship or attempts to garner desire from a woman through deceptive means because he believes he doesn't deserve it honestly. A man who feels confident in himself and in his desires doesn't need to sacrifice portions or all of himself to appease a woman, and accepts that not all women will fit into his idea of a relationship.

Also, a man who thinks he can bribe or pay a woman into wanting him, is just trying to negotiate desire and make up for his sexual inadequacy through currency, even if he feels like he's getting a deal. Even though he's not technically a simp, I'd put him in the category of "beta" as in "beta bucks", because he hasn't actually earned the relationship he wants and is trying to negotiate for it instead (unless of course the woman is openly prostituting herself).

His subjective feeling, has no bearing on our objective designation for him. A happy beta is still a beta.

I also think it's basically impossible to define a contrastive concept like beta by itself. It needs the opposite to be meaningful. The best I can relate being beta to is being negatively discriminated.

It is fine to tell everyone to sit in the back of the car. But if you tell a group of people they need to sit in the back of the bus, and others could sit in front, then that is discrimination.

It is fine to say you need dinner and flowers to have sex. But if you say some need to do this and others do not, then you have an alpha and a beta group. The moment one has privilege/priority in sexual mating they are alpha. The other group, beta. It doesn't matter if they are happy, if they are loved, if anything else. They would simply be a happy, loved beta, a happy and loved man that invested more into a woman for sex after she spent her youth fucking the alpha.
