Didnt need a study to tell you that. Here in Canads there is literally a special interest group within our professional governing body (for engineers) whose mandate has been to have 30% of engineers as women by 2030.

There are also various programs to give women preferential treatment for entrepreneurship, and even dedicated funds (by RBC) that invest in women only businesses. Surprise surprise, looking at the historics of that fund, it has VASTLY underperformed the broad market.

One of the little known facts of the world is that 50% of college-educated women drop out of the full-time workforce by 10 years after graduation (they move to part-time or exit work).

That means there are always a deficit of FTE women. As such, companies need to consistently hire new women to keep the numbers of FTE women up out of "descrimination lawsuit range".

That's why hiring discrimination favors women.

I remember working for a dental practice many years ago and the dentist that I work for was a male and he was from Europe. We needed to hire an office manager. They were a lot of women who applied. Many they were very attractive to, and many of those attractive ones demanded a very unusually high salary for an office manager. There were a few guys that we interviewed didn't ask for much but they had really good personalities. We did four interviews for four males. And 10 female females. The dentist who is the owner, met every single one of them. There was one guy there that we really liked and he had an exceptional work history and we really wanted to bring him in. However, my dentist picked three very young attractive women in their mid 20s who demanded absurd amount of money for the position and he was torn. He really liked the other guy, but because majority of our office patients are literally 90% male, he was poised to pick an attractive woman. I had to deliver the bad news to the guy cause I told him we really liked him, but the dentist had to choose a different candidate. That woman worked ok. She was attractive and it was great to have her around. But she was terrible at presenting treatment plans. But she worked out great for complicated male patients who didn't want to sign off on the treatment plan, but because she presented it, they signed it, and they did the treatment because persuaded them. I can honestly say that my dentist said that he was guilty of that hiring process. But he chose attraction over quality. Long story short that guy we didn't hire actually turned out to be a dentist. From another country. And he was able to get his license and started his own practice.

The study confirms what's been visible for a while. Quotas and preferential treatment skew the process. Hiring should be about qualifications, not balancing demographics. That fund underperforming isn't a surprise either.

Lived experience here in the states: Women seem to bounce around jobs with ease, but a guy getting into a corporate situation or getting a promotion seems like a massive deal thats the culmination of years. You just don't hear about it often. I am friends with a woman who's been hired and fired by 3 positions in the last two years. She just gets told "yes" virtually every time she puts herself out there.

I don't know if I can mention the places but there are a few places which seem to be overwhelmingly women hired there than men. And a lot of them I'm miserable and they don't do a good job
