At most, it suggests women may be more willing to (semi)publicly discuss emotionally romantic AI companionship in a dedicated community, while male AI companion usage may be more scattered across porn, roleplay, NSFW apps, private use, Discords, or girlfriend specific platforms.

I think the "AI boyfriend/girlfriend" thing is just an extension of erotic fiction more than a replacement for a person. I'll admit I've delved into the idea myself a bit, and the experience is more "I'm making a story with AI prompts rather than writing purely from scratch." than "Wow, an actual person is talking to me."

It doesn't even maintain the illusion very well, since it's still the human user prompting everything. A huge part of sexuality for me is the other person. There's this idea of being attracted to another person's desire, or of learning things about another person's mind and body. To me, flirting with an LLM is basically like salivating over a picture of food rather than eating it.

There's also, at least for me, an uncanny valley where you have something interacting with you more viscerally than a book, yet is also just a screen. It's technically closer to "the real thing" of talking with a real person, but in a way that emphasizes there's still a gap. Traditional erotic fiction still has a place because it's more distant.

There's less "this is not real" backlash when I have an explicitly fictional scenario written by another person with characters who are not me. There's also the sense of interacting with the author if not the characters; I once remember some bit of feminist theory that said pornography couldn't be speech because it was more of an indirect sex act between the performers and the audience, and not an expression of ideas. I think that's valid for erotic fiction: reading a human author's fantasy brought to the page is me learning what a real person likes and them sharing it with me, even if we don't actually know each other.

I suppose more advanced programs could be "spontaneous" in a programmed way, like I once played a video game where the gimmick was that you were mission control and the astronauts would have problems in real time. That was a cool experience to play out over a few days, and apps already send "spontaneous" notifications for ads and whatnot.

There are many male users with AI girlfriends on r/myboyfriendisai. The subreddit name isn't that prescriptive.

Women would ideally like a real, physical man but if they're lonely and longing for emotional connection they might go for an AI imaginary companion so they at least feel they get something. Many people who "date" AI are in real relationships as well, so they have a partner with a body but feel they're missing something.

I just took a peek in the AIBoyfriend subreddit and it seems so cute. They’re discussing game nights and whatnot, lol. For women, this might be a new way to IDK feel like they’re socializing and interacting positively with something/someone - with no risks of danger.

I don't have, have never had an AI boyfriend. I do have a real life husband.

I am a lusty person who initiates much of our sex, and I feel as though my story might be illuminating? Helpful? Or at least help generate empathy, if not a path towards helping young people connect in real life?

I knew I was straight from the onset, I had wet dreams about age appropriate young men, their bodies, their voices, their energy, their shoulder muscles, and yes their genitals. But society surely shut that shit down hard. You know, the jocks and mean girls making jokes at school, the Hollywood movies. It was made exceedingly clear to me that if I confessed to my experience of lust, let alone acted upon it, I would be shamed and labeled. In such a severe way that it completely quenched me for a long while, and created shyness (lack of visible enthusiasm) that affected my early relationships.

During that part of my life, I can totally see why sticking to my own hands and an AI boyfriend would have been very attractive. And every time after a catcall or subway grope, I know I felt setbacks that lasted sometimes weeks, feeling gross about my own body or that my physical sexuality had been taken over, claimed by strange men that negated every other part of my spirit in favor of talking about my tits. Or for a few months after a date tried to get too aggressive with wanting sex.

What I mean is, it's not as simple as whether or not I want dick, because I do. It has always been that there are times when the social baggage that comes along with dick overwhelms it.

And yes, that energy, that male energy can be part of the allure when it spins right. It's like tending a bonfire, it's hot and warming and beautiful but it can burn you and some days you'd just rather be exhausted and cold.

Y'all can date single moms, fat women, ugly women, promiscuous women, divorcees, women who go to clubs, women who wear revealing clothing, women who post thirst traps, women who have male friends, gold diggers, drug addicts, ex cons, abusers, etc. Those are all options for men too.

You all really over estimate how much attention all women have access to.

- Some women CANNOT AT ALL get male attention easily. They would likely turn to ai bfs.
- Some women have been hurt physically or emotionally by men, they would like turn to ai bfs.
- Some women are older and isolated, they would likely turn to ai bfs.
