This is another of those only-good-on-paper, nice-in-theory, equality scenarios where they ignore/deny/don't take into account the actual, current reality. Yeah it sounds nice, but it doesn't mean it's realistic or applicable as is to the current world.

Men are not the prize, never have been. I still get chills when I saw that documentary of a town that was mostly comprised of men because women had to keep aborting the female pregnancies. The look on those men's eyes... big yikes.

Look. I'm a prize. I want an equal. Pretty much by definition that means they're a prize too. For a different competition, and nobody says the prizes are equally common or easily attainable or whatever, but worth winning nonetheless.

That is to say I want an actual prize. Not just some dude who thinks they're one, which is most of the ones who try.

There's a reason why men have supported females for centuries. Women sacrificed their lives to bring their children into the world. If they don't want to provide, we can just IVF now. Men donate their sperm because they need money and their sperm is a replenishing resource. They aren't bothered. Women don't need men. Men go crazy without sex, apparently. They need us.

Absolutely not. HVMs are the men we want but they are our oppressors. They have the upper hand. If we let men think they are the prize, they are just reinforcing the patriarchy. I personally think HVMs know women are collectively better than men and that we should be treated accordingly.

I don't want a guy with low confidence. I don't want a guy who is arrogant.

But I absolutely want a guy who feels lucky to be with me.

I'd probably never actually use the word "prize" this way in real life.

I think thinking of yourself as a prize is a good way to not feel bad about rejecting guys who don't measure up to your expectations. A lot of women come to this subreddit and need to be reminded that they don't need to settle, it's ok to have standards, etc.

You are not literally a trophy just because you're a woman, but it's a good mantra to have especially for women who might have considered themselves people pleasers and don't prioritize themselves in dating. It's a good reminder that a man should be measuring up to your standards.

This is the reason I find lib-feminism problematic. It's a Utopian concept that does not account for all the subtle, covert sexism that exists in our communities, our inner circles, our countries, our institutional policies, and our worldview. Until all types of women around the world are given 100% equality as men and it's sustained for a duration of time so it becomes embedded in our worldview, values, and reality, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a healthy, loving, equal marriage with a man that believes both "he and his woman" can "both be the prize" because it invalidates the challenges his partner will endure as create a relationship imbalance in power dynamics because this perception is STILL not OUR reality.

We can hope this concept will one day become a "norm" but the reality is, sexism is still implicit and very explicit endorsed in our day-to-day interactions, circles, and culture. The reality is, men will think less of you if you go 50/50 on dates and act as a man because they still are unconsciously (or consciously) catered to by a society that tells them they are able to do more and be given female validation in a variety of forms by virtue of their gender so until the male entitlement ends and every human who has been conditioned into this mindset dies off or becomes 100000% enlightened (most likely not but let's dream), this is not the REAL reality for women. If we treat men like they are the prize, they will think less of us. And that's that.

Pretending it "should be an ideal" does not make it true. Women are the prize in dating because it's a man's world and we are at a disadvantage the day we are born. They are already treated as a prize in may other areas of their life. This will breed further entitlement and further oppression of women with this type of mindset.

A HVM is aware of these challenges and listens/validates our concerns because they are able to see how male privileged has benefited them so they have no issue putting effort in to vet that they are a good, healthy, masculine man because they know the odds are not in our favor. They know women are the prize for this very reason.
