She makes $300k (her husband over $100k) but as her income increases, her husband seems to become more depressed and unsure of his path in life. Even though his income quadrupled throughout their marriage, hers climbed up too, so she has always earned more than him. She tells us this year that he is crying, unsure of why he hasn't been getting the jobs he wants (presumably an increased salary) and now he's quitting everything to go back to school. He was ultra confident when they met and now he seems reserved and defeated.

I am sure there is far more going on behind the scenes - but she always picks up the tab for groups drinks (I used to sometimes too). She refuses to do dishes because she's a powerful career woman, so she has both a housekeeper and a nanny.

I had her same ambitions as her until I discovered they may be a little merit to traditional roles. This is just my recent observation of this year. From the feminine theories I have read, I would guess guys need a place as a provider, and since she has taken that role, her husband may feel odd about the balance of things. This is totally judgey of me, but I'm just looking for examples to observe in circles close to me. Some of it is starting to make sense.
