The current world population is estimated to be 7.7 billion people. In 1927 it was only 2 billion. We are quickly approaching carrying capacity of this planet, with almost apocalyptic levels of extinctions taking place in animals worldwide. Global temperatures and pollution levels are rising. Unending growth will end in guaranteed worldwide disaster.

So rather than reduce numbers through war, genocide, or plague, we can embrace the more ethical solution of just simply not having as many kids. Through various means we have halved the average fertility rate from 5 in 1950 to 2.36, just barely above replacement level. In many countries populations are already beginning to decline. THIS IS A GOOD THING We know what causes fertility rates to drop, easy access to birth control, low child mortality rates, high cost of child rearing, education for women, etc. We simply need to promote these things in the few countries that still have high growth to balance things worldwide.

CMV, lower fertility rates is the best solution to overpopulation and the long term survival of the species/planet in the coming century.
