It's easy: draconian child support laws that put the fear in men. The major advantage male contraception has over female methods is it can be tested. No sperm? It's working. Sperm? It's not working. Parents of teens would certainly pay for it.

Personally, I prefer the idea of the reversible vasectomies and I don't know much about this non-hormonal pill but if it's a once-a-month thing or could be some sort of long term thing like depo or an implanted thing that lasts a few years I think you'd be insane not to use it.

That's such a terrible terrible statement. Both genders are responsible. It takes two to make a baby. Some men are forced to end relationships because they sleep with bad women and that's their fault. Same goes for women.

Besides. It's not that they didn't remember to put a condom on, it's the fact they didn't want to put one on. They thought they could escape the issue without it. If you now know the pill will allow you to eliminate all possible risks of the baby then of course more men will take it.

It has no intention to reduce single motherhood, just to protect guys who don't want kids. Mostly guys who make a decent amount of money.

This is a good point. Single parenthood is still mostly an issue of class, intelligence, and foresight. Lots of people are either too poor or too dumb to use birth control pills or implants effectively when left to their own devices, whether they are male or female.

Birth control has to be extremely cheap and easy to use to be effective for dumb and lower-class people. Here in Denver, colorado, we instituted a policy that provides very cheap birth control and copper IUDs to at-risk teenager girls, and it was very effective. The teen birth rate is less than half what it used to be in the Denver area.

I think we would need the same sort of free/cheap and easy system for male birth control for it to have any noticeable effect on society. Most of the deadbeat dudes who should be sterilized wouldn't go out of their way to take male birth control. We would need a system in place that targeted those at-risk deadbeats and made it as simple and cheap as possible for them to take their pills or get their shots.

Buuuuut i dont see anyone voting to spend taxpayer cash on giving poor and at-risk men free Vasalgel treatments. Most people would scoff and say that those men should just man up and either keep it in their pants or accept the consequences.

Personally? Male contraception isn't going to be impactful other for the paranoid/fearful or people with actual things to lose. Both groups are relatively small to be honest.

Most people that have their oopsie pregnancies are indeed people who are.... let us say not so clever, so no the "chads" would most likely not be using it.

That is why women should bear the grunt of the responsibility. It is being done to their bodies and they have the final say in it all. Just put the kid for adoption, so he/she can have a shot at a better life. It is kind of selfish to try raise a child, that you know you can't raise.

I also think that it helps to not subsidise children anyway. If you can't afford them, then chances are that you weren't really fit to be a "good" parent anyway. We don't need more "low quality" people afterall.

However what we should subsidise more are abortions, that is a much better than to sustain those children. Prevention is better than cure.

The male contraceptive pill will not end single parenthood because stupid people play stupid games and have children in stupidly bad circumstances with stupid people that leave their children.

The only thing that the male contraceptive pill will do is balance the scale. Now if a man wants to have sex without a condom then he is not at the mercy of a woman. She is not the only one who gets to decide when condomless sex results in a pregnancy.

A male contraceptive will absolutely make a difference, because (presumably) a male contraceptive drug will not change the sensation of sex.

Sex with a condom feels less good than sex without one. This is partially because of the way condoms impact moisture, even forgetting the difference in sensation mediated by latex. Also partially because some women have sensitivity to latex, which negatively impacts the experience for her, and, in subtle ways, for him.

A male contraceptive will not end single parenthood. But it will almost certainly reduce it. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Incremental improvement is valuable.

simply put:

by being able to use the contraceptive when the reproductive impulse is not controlling his brain is a great way to avoid problems
men are responsible either way for the child, sometimes not even their own child. one more contraceptive technology is a way to ensure avoiding unplanned parenthood, it do not avoid it entirely, but sure it helps
some women (psychos) want to use men... so they use the child to force then into marriage or to pay then... so... to avoid it, a male contraceptive is perfect
