If men and women were to describe their ideal circumstances for falling in love, what would their conditions be? This is not to ask what their actual conditions are, but the fantasy or story they like to play in their heads.

I am also interested in what the personal romantic scripts are for the people here. If you were to write yourself as the protagonist of a romantic novel, what would the plotline be?

I would guess that for women, the script would be something like the Phantom of the Opera. A mysterious and troubled man becomes obsessed with her, willing to kill and die for her. He was the only one who saw her potential, and only she truly understands him and can access a part of him that no one else can see.

For men, I'm not so sure. Do men have romantic scripts? If they do, I think a critical element might involve love at first sight, where in women's scripts the love develops over time.

My personal script would be becoming best friends with an extremely shy and weird guy who is obsessed with me, and whom other people reject out of disdain for his weirdness. We mutually understand each other way in a way no one else can. This has a huge effect on my romantic life because due to this script, I tend to befriend shy, unpopular guys and then inevitably fall in love with them. You see it still mirrors the PotO script, despite some details being changed.
