Men of the future wearing makeup just as much as women

My husband grew up in Korea, where this has been the norm for ages. It's not mascara or lipstick or full contouring or anything like that, but basically tinted moisturizer or concealer to hide blemishes. Skin care is a big deal too - facewash, toner, moisturizer, brightening masks, etc.

Korea is a super competitive society, and anything goes if it can give you an edge. Plastic surgery, makeup, and photoshop (on job application photos) are the norm.

I don't really see what the big deal is. Why not cover up your acne scars if they bug you, or use a bit of green cream to blend out that big red pimple on your nose before meeting a client?

That sounds pretty reasonable to me - I mean men in centuries past wore make up. Men wearing make up isn't too much different then a tattoo.

In fact, before going into battle, men covered some portions of their body and face with make-up.

The Māori people sometimes cover portions of their body and face in tatoos.

every man you see in movies and scripted tv is wearing makeup. honestly it wouldn't surprise me, but it would have to emphasize different features.

I work with a man who wears make-up, not "woman make-up" but he definitely uses foundation to make his skin look clear. He also gets his eyebrows done professionally. I think it's awesome, he looks sharp as hell.

I already wear more makeup than plenty of women, at least on some occasions. I have a very countercultural fashion sense.

I don't see it as a particularly important issue. I presume male makeup will take some time and be more "transparent" and the like... be more about concealer and other things... rather than be outright decorative. At least at first.

But does this fact have any real implications relevant to PPD?

If I were going to be very cynical I'd say that if men start wearing concealer-type makeup to enhance their complexions, they'd have to keep it very quiet. At the same time women will start shaming men for wearing makeup and Cosmo Etc. will come up with "tricks to see if he's secretly wearing makeup." Men wearing makeup will be seen as an attempt to manipulate and deceive women. Male makeup will then get accused, by feminists, of being an "imperalistic male attempt to invade and colonize women's spaces" and be linked to both the MHRM and PUAs. In short, male makeup will be perceived as a "sneaky fucker" tactic and thus be classified as a threat to women.

And of course there will still be a small minority of women who, due to countercultural tastes and styles, think that men wearing at least some makeup is cool. But they're a minority.

Masculinity is a metaphysical reality. Make up is an object defined by its purpose.

If society can find a way for makeup to express the masculine (war paint?) then it can work.

In our current post modern society where gender is being denied as a reality I do not think such a thing will make it past a fad.

Naturally masculine men will forgoe the fad and with them the rest of the world will follow

Won't work for guys who want to look more rugged - masculinity is it's own thing, and a bit of authentic grit works for some men. It's not going to go away.

It's fine with me if men wear makeup, it's no skin off my nose. luckily I am blessed with natural good looks so I don't need makeup ;) At least not yet.

It depends upon what women decide they like, as it is women who are choosing men for sex, and most men don't try to look fashionable for other men as women do for women. Lots of men started shaving their chests because women suddenly decided they like that instead of the hairy chests of the old days.

I remember Miami Vice from the 80s (Don Johnson in a pink suit is the best thing ever!) and how all the young girls would sigh and moan for the captain. Because of his voice and his face ravaged by acne scars. He was a shortie btw I think. So there's a bit of encouragement for all the shorties.

I can't speak for all of the future, but I think at some point we'll go through a period where authenticity and the unaltered natural will be in vogue. I do think the future will have less crude methods to accomplish the same things, than to apply layers of coating and paint to your face. Like individual gene therapy.

How far in the future? We should have made good progress on reverse-aging in a few decades (and more and more in the decades to follow) so people will hopefully start looking younger though medical treatment that reverse-ages their whole body!
