You're not the only one. I think a lot of those reddit MGTOWs were deeply hurt at some point in their lives (divorce, abusive mother, etc). I'm more of the younger types who dated around for a time and decided it wasn't worth it and now focus on other things. I agree with a lot of MGTOW but the reddit types are what I see as the most radical. They're a mirror image of radical feminism in some cases.

I'm a MGTOW in practice, and I agree a lot of MGTOWs are... at the very least extremely harsh.. when discussing women. Some are fairly described as misogynist, I'll agree.

I agree with male self-determination and I agree with rebellion against male gender expectations. I agree with a revolt against gynocentrism. And honestly I don't want committed relationships in general, so one with a woman doesn't excite me.

But I don't see why I need to accept the beliefs of certain extreme MGTOWs in order to Go My Own Way.

Yep. I've always liked the basic ideas behind the whole thing but the sub and forums just make me cringe.

I've said a million times, if you decide to go your own way, actually go your own way. Whining about how women are to blame for all your problems is like the complete opposite of that. I thought you were meant to be running your own life for your own goals independent of others?

Now to be fair it's my understanding the YouTube MGTOWs tend to be more moderate, however I've only watched a couple videos I've been linked to randomly here and there so I can't say that with much certainty.

Anyway given my various bad luck with relationships (read: bitches be crazy) and having just got out of a 4 year one where I felt pretty much trapped towards the end, I'm doing the MGTOW thing for a bit, but again, that don't mean I'm gonna whine all day, just means I won't bother seeking relationships at least for now.

As one who is quasi MGTOW I've stayed out of that sub because its really no different than the Incel or TRP sub. I know there's a sub that does cross over in users but it won't surprise me if all three had a lot of cross over given how similar the hate is in all three of those subs.

As a non-MGTOW ally, let me give you my perspective: The world definitely needs a form of MGTOW that expressly works against misogyny.

By definition, feminism and MGTOW are likely to fall into sexism because of the universal human tendency to develop hostility against the outgroup. As those movements by definition force the opposite sex into the outgroup, hostility towards that outgroup will arise as surely as night follows day.

This is why identity politics is so evil.

If you want to be a feminist or MGTOW, and not become a Nazi, you have to exert an enormous amount of effort to continue seeing the outgroup as fellow humans.

Yes. I have been MGTOW before I even knew about the movement or the sub reddit. I dislike /r/MGTOW and don't hang around any MGTOW communities. It seems most people have the impression that if your MGTOW that you hate women, which is unfortunate considering I don't.

The self-improvement stuff and the criticism of the divorce corporation and other cultural/legal double standards -- fully stand by that.

Same. Women are favored in the American justice system (criminal and civil), no argument there. I'm also atheist and believe marriage is primarily for religious people. The only real reason anyone should get married is for a more stable environment for their children. I'm also not that fond of children. For me there is zero benefits in getting married. Being involved with women is a huge risk if you get involved with a crazy one.

Considering most women want to get married and have kids, I have taken myself out of the dating pool. Also, I'm happy being single and having no restrictions on what I can and can't do with my time.

As a man going his own way I agree with you. While I understand the sub has a lot of people who've been royally fucked over by women (often aided by society in doing so), I don't think women are children or inherently inferior to men. And in fact, believing this ironically absolves women of moral responsibility for their actions and makes it irrational to get mad at them when they're shitty people. That said I don't try to tone-police the sub because it should be a place for men to vent without being made to feel guilty.

I'm MGTOW out of the recognition that marriage and cohabitation place men at the mercy of women who want to exploit the legal system to ruin their lives, that the expected deference to women that characterizes romantic relationships in popular culture is an insult to my dignity as a man, and that the female entitlement that results from this means most are not worth the effort required for a relationship. For me it's a statement of self-ownership and an act of self-protection, which is why I think the concept has value.

I think that MGTOW is actually a great option for misogynists. I've never understood the rhetoric against it. Hate women? Have nothing to do with them. Don't have kids, don't teach hatred to children. Just live and die in a way that makes you feel happy and does not spread to others.

This is my opinion as a feminist and someone who openly identifies as feminist.

However, I think that everyone should focus on healing themselves and walking around with a huge chip on your shoulder doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Especially when that chip is towards half of the population. Also, when men hold anger and resentment too closely it seems to eventually evolve into violence. This is really my only fear when it comes to misogynistic MGTOWs. I know it was a long time ago (1989), but I always think about the shooting in a Montreal University. There was a very misogynistic man who was angry that the University did not accept him (his grades were too low) and did accept people that he deemed below him. (women) 14 women died because he decided to physically take out his anger.

However, men who just want to focus on other things? That's totally cool! I mean, plenty of monks and scholars and artists choose to forgo dating and marriage to pursue things that they feel are greater. I think that's lovely. Live for yourself, not social norms. I think if men want to support each other in communities like that, fantastic.

Yup. I can see the benefits of MGTOW. Not only is the legal (and social) system misandrist, on top of that I think the mating market has become dysfunctional due to online dating sites and dating apps.

As a result I'm mostly MGTOW, but I couldn't stand the mysogyny on that site. It isn't just the misogyny, it is the alt-right politics. The anti-semitism, the worship of Trump (who is an incompetent, treasonous con man), the hatred of the left, the calls to deprive women of their civil rights. It was really disgusting.

I'm more of a soft MGTOW. If a high quality woman comes along, I'll give it a shot. But I doubt that'll happen, and I don't agree with the misogyny and politics of MGTOW.

A few years ago there were a lot of guys who identified as MGTOW just because they were swearing off marriage, in protest of how draconian the laws surrounding it are for men.

This newer shit with MGTOWS comes across like some weird middlepoint between feminism and "we wuz kangs" style beliefs, but for men. I never worry about misogyny though because it's a stupid fear. Women are the most loved and protected and needed out of any major group, including children.

I was hoping to find a voice like this. I thought there must be. I'm a woman and I'll be right beside you to stand against inequal treatment of men in courts, false rape allegations (many women will, they harm us too), men being as good as they can be in their own right, not how they relate to others etc.

I think these are basic human affairs, not a men vs women thing. I don't subscribe to the whole gender wars attitude.

I think some of them need to do this to compel themselves to go MGTOW. The hope then would be they can replace that with other self created reasons to go MGTOW instead over time.

As far as I know, MGTOW just means living life on your own terms. I'm about to settle down a bit, but I did the MGTOW a bit over the last five years. I travelled around living in each country from 2-4 months. Usually I'd have a girlfriend each place, but I wouldn't really change anything in my lifestyle for her. If she wanted to hang out and have sex while I was there then that was fine. But my work always came first and I'd eventually leave.

Girls are great. Pain in the ass of course. But still

How does it matter? If they are leaving women alone as MGTOW do, does it matter if they hate them?

I have known some MGTOW men whose lives have been so badly ruined by women that it would be unnatural for them to not have a deep visceral hatred of women. As long as they leave women alone, no harm done.

Hatred is what keeps them sane in the horror that their life has been reduced to.
