Edit: Have any of you guys ~~freaking out about~~ objecting to this actually gone to one of these charity walks? I guaran-damn-tee you these guys aren't actually walking a mile in high heels. They're walking a couple steps, laughing, taking some pictures and that's it. We did a charity "run" recently in honor of my fiance's mom who died of cancer. We didn't run, we walked around the track, goofed off and talked to people. Oh and also we VOLUNTEERED to do it, just like the guys participating in the high heel thing. Y'all are taking this way too seriously.

You make some goofy points, but this might be a new high.

A) No one is making men do anything. Fundraising is voluntary.

B) It's not the act of wearing heels that helps victims, it's doing something goofy and raising money for it. Just like the physical act of running a marathon doesn't help people with cancer.

C) No, I don't think this is "just" to humiliate men. I think it's pretty obvious that first and foremost this fundraiser is about raising funds, and awareness. The heels are a gimmick. Like others have said, it's on par with drenching your boss in a dunk tank.

D) What exactly would be "unfair" about using this phrase? This is what the fundraiser is about - men raising awareness to other men.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of sexual assault victims probably just want to live their lives and put it all in the rear view mirror too.

They're not being forced to do it are they? It's voluntary isn't it? How is it humiliating? I've seen my Dad in a dunk tank at a fundraiser one time where his employees got to try to drop him in the water. I can't remember what the charity was but he didn't seem to mind. Participating in fundraiser and auctions and galas is just something people with money do. It's hard to think up new and exciting themes for that stuff. Believe me I know, my Mom spends a lot of time doing it.

It's a take on walking a mile in someone's shoes. And I would assume most guys might have a little more respect for how difficult it can be to walk in heels doing so for a mile.

Given the event is focused on female victims of sexual violence, the term seems appropriate. It wouldn't if the event was more about sexual violence in general.

And give the event is voluntary, any embarrassment would be willfully taken on. So what's wrong with it?
