No, pretty much no one cares. It's just not discussed for the most part. I've only been asked twice in my life and one of those times was by another girl.

Rather than n-count being "inappropriate" to ask about, I find all discussions regarding exes to be pretty tacky to begin with.

I've asked every women I've ever been in a relationship with her N, and we discussed it, and how it came to be that number in all cases as well.

No, I don't ask for nor want the gory details.

So far, that's 4 of those conversations I've had and survived without much drama. Although my second LTR mate was a virgin when we met, so really I've had 3 of these conversations and one default pass. LOL

Both men and women can find a partner's history of putting it about kind of off-putting. Like tends to draw like, the sexually modest tend to prefer the sexually modest. Only reddit and a few similar places online seem to be obsessed with boiling it down to an integer and debating the difference between numbers down the low end of the scale as though numbers that vary very little between each other give more info than the anecdotes surround the acquisition of those numbers.

I don't want to know my girlfriend's N, but we've talked about our levels of experience in general terms. I think this is pretty typical.

I do have a couple male friends who are very concerned with N counts, for whatever reason. They're average guys, not super high or super low SMV. Maybe on the lower end of average.

A lot of guys will ask other guys just to talk shit, you really shouldn't take those conversations seriously

Promiscuity is mostly a symptom of social and/or psychological problems. Substance abuse is also a major factor, but that falls into both categories.

The idea that you can't roughly gauge someone's n count after getting to know them, is ludicrous.

Regardless of what you think about the impact of n-count, I do not think it is an obscure or little-thought-about subject. It is a common topic in US sitcoms! This is certainly not an endorsement of its value as a topic worthy of serious research or not, but it does mean that thinking/talking/asking/wondering about it in context of a relationship is so common that it can be trope that transcends age, class, regional differences, even language. That means "people" -- where that word means modern humans in the widest possible sense -- consider it a big topic, equal in universality with getting married, moving for a new job, or deciding whether one wants to have kids (also common sitcom plot devices).

As far as friends go, I don't think I know any of their N counts except for one or two. It's never come up in discussion.

If I were to begin dating someone new, I don't think I would ask or want to know.

I'd almost never ask outright, if I were looking for an answer. In strong part because I wouldn't expect an honest answer. Rather, n-count is something that is generally sussed out over time.

If i'm asking outright, it's simply to test her reaction.

I don't see how it could be inappropriate. I think it is something that would eventually come up in conversation, along with other life topics such as what grades you got in college, what jobs you've held, how mant countries you've visited if any, etc. If I'm with someone I expect to be asked these and to ask them in return. It's a part of getting to know each other and to gain an appreciation for your partner's life.

I know this might sound silly to some. But I'd test every partner I have for STDs. Even if they're a virgin. (I'd get tested, too of course.). STDs are a big concern.. Especially for people with high N count. Yes, I know there are ways to fend them off, but it's not worth the risk. I'd want to know for sure. It would bother me if someone I was with had a high N count.. A lot, actually. But whether they're a virgin or a big fan of causual relationships, I gotta make sure they're a half-decent person.

Probably not, since I doubt many people (outside of the "pillosphere") would even know what "n- count" means.

On the other hand, there are still many people who take very parochial views on sex (even if they don't consider themselves religious). In fact, I would say they still represent the majority of the population.

In my own personal experience, I've found that it's generally women who seem to take an interest in other women's n-count. I don't really care all that much anymore, although it might have been an issue back when my family's views had greater influence on my outlook. That's the thing that so many people here seem to neglect to mention. For an LTR, it's not just the individual man's point of view to worry about, but also his family's viewpoint.

Society's view may not be quite as provincial as it once was, but it's still there just the same.
