You may have already seen this article on r/science today, Chapman University Publishes Research on Jealousy – Impact of Sexual vs. Emotional Infidelity which right off the bat seems to make a very RP conclusion: men are most upset by sexual infidelity, and women most upset by emotional infidelity (but only if you're heterosexual).

My first thought on this was, alright, I'll concede the point that in general hetero men and women are most upset by one or the other, that my personal feelings of sexual/emotional infidelity being equally bad are likely due to me being bi.

But there's still something about this and TRP which doesn't make sense to me: it's often said by RPers that women won't mind "sharing an alpha man" as part of a soft harem because she minds sexuality infidelity less than emotional infidelity. Basically if the man "comes home to her" after philandering around and still supports her/their children, she'll be just as happy. I don't think me being bi is the only thing making this theory seem wacky.

What the article tells us is hetero men and women are more upset by one form of infidelity than the other. It doesn't make any claims about women generally sticking around even though they were sexually cheated. I'm wondering how TRP backs up this soft harem theory?

Question for all Pills:

  • as a man or woman, would you be more willing to stick around after one type of infidelity than another? Or are both types of infidlities a deal-breaker for the relationship?

Question for Blue/Non-RPs:

  • Many of us are non-hetero, do you think this has an impact on how TRP is viewed or argued against in general?

Question for RP:

  • why do you think hetero women being less upset by sexual infidelity can translate to a soft harem (yes, if the dude is "alpha" enough)?
