I'm not sure what you think the point of a nightclub is? When I used to go clubbing (10 years ago) it was exactly as you described. In a big city there's every possible iteration of clubs and bars and venues, I'm sure you can find something that suits.

If you want to go ballroom dancing, maybe you should do that rather than going clubbing and complaining that it's too much like clubbing.

I agree. I never liked them. It's too loud. Everybody is too close. I've only been a handful of times, never had a dude hit on me in a club setting, BUT the women I went with tried to grind up on me, make-out with me. I know it's an easy way to get dudes to come over, but I'm not about it. I don't like anybody touching me. and I'm not gonna make out with another chick for attention, like...come on now :/

Go to a bar. Clubs =/= bars. Bars are easy to talk to people. Usually have fun events or comedy shows or board game nights specifically for meeting people. Go to events like festivals and stuff in your city too. Night clubs are for clubbing which is what you described. If clubbing isnt your cup of tea, then there are tons of other places to meet people.

I think part of this is the change in music. When clubs were playing hip hop there seemed to be a lot more of actual dancing with each other (and there still is in those clubs), but in the ones that play EDM it seems like people are more just standing in circles and jumping up and down and probably blown out of their mind on ecstasy

It has literally been like that since the beginning of time. And yes, clubs in Europe are also dark, crowded, loud, and full of drunk/high sweaty people constantly getting into each other's personal space.

And don't get me started with dancing, even now the dancing is gone.

Are you actually going to dance clubs or are you just going to bars that happen to be playing music?

I went to two clubs this weekend. One of them had 4 levels, each playing a different genre of music (top40, '90s, hip-hop, EDM) the other one had 3 or 4 different rooms with DJs playing mostly house music. Literally every floor/room was packed with people, and at least 2/3 of them were actively dancing. In the place playing house it was more like 80%+.

If people aren't dancing at the clubs you're going to, you should go somewhere else.

I wish we could go either back to Jazz clubs or to Ballroom dancing.

You probably would have hated those places too if you lived back in the '20s or whatever. I'm sure it was pretty much the exact same thing but with slightly different music.

Also, there are still places that do that. There are also dance places that specialize in swing, salsa, bachata, country, and every other type of dance you can think of. However, they will also be crowded, sweaty, loud OR lame af and full of old people.

I don't think I have known any couples who met at a nightclub in 20 years or so. I don't even know anyone who goes to nightclubs at all, and I know a lot of single people.

Clubs make their money off drinks. When people are talking too much they are not buying alcohol.... which is the entire point.

Research was done a long time ago that people will buy more drinks if they can’t hear each other, so they intentionally make the music deafening.

I learned quickly that because my strength was in words, picking up at a club is difficult to me (it’s hard to shout game into a woman’s ear). So either hang about in smoking section where it’s quieter, or find somewhere else.

Body language is king in the club so if you can dance well and project confident body language, you’ll have some success. Otherwise it’s a sweatbox so might as well just drink too and try to enjoy the music.

You're right, american nightclubs are smaller. I wish the USA had more gigantic, open air night clubs like i saw in the netherlands. There are a couple clubs in my home city that have multiple rooms and outdoors areas so its not so crowded, but most clubs are too damned small and sweaty.

In the states, you should look for specific dance clubs and events if you want more actual dancing. Also, go to concerts or bars with live bands if you want to dance. I always recommend seeing local jazz and latin clubs because they always have dance floors.

Find a local 'dive' bar. Not the 'biker' type, but just one that's kind of a hole in the wall, maybe gets overlooked a lot. Usually cheap drinks and plenty of interesting people to meet, if that's your thing. Usually pretty easy to get laid, if you're looking, although that's hit-or-miss depending on how picky you are.

This may work better in smaller towns, but the dives that I've found in larger areas still tend to be about the same. Find a girl that isn't with a dude, maybe single one out of a pack (if there are only 2 or 3, she's specifically hanging with her friends and you may not get a bite unless they're all out trawling), ask her to play pool or darts or whatever games they've got. Great excuse to converse while also observing.

Clubs are pretty much trash once you hit a certain age.

Maybe you're just getting older. I had this same feeling a few years ago, then a realized it wasn't the clubs that changed, it was me. Places so loud you can't talk, so dark you can't see who you're talking to, and where people are trying to drink their way into having enough courage for social interactions with strangers just don't seem as cool as they did when I was in my 20's.
