I am so grateful I found this place.

Growing up, I was extremely sickly and small. As a result of this, I was never popular and girls in my class would either treat me like a baby or ignore me outright while repeatedly making out with the guys who made my life hell.

My mom, being extremely well-meaning, would always assure me that "nice guys win in the end" and that with time, women would "be lining up to marry me"

I see now that the joke was on me the entire time. It also revealed the true nature of my parent's marriage. My dad was also a sickly small nerd who didn't date until he had his MD. She doesn't respect my father. They got married when she was 28 after she "accidentally" forgot to take her pill, leading to me. She threatened a divorce when he attempted to cut off her debit card access after several $1k+ shopping sprees during the 2008 economic collapse.

My mom was unknowingly raising me to be the biggest chump in the fucking world and I was headed towards my own execution.

My only problem with the article (and sometimes even the discussions here) is that a false dichotomy is presented. Men can't simply be classified as either being like Biff Tannen or George McFly. Even in the article, it assumed that the alpha stud was necessarily a bona fide asshole, which need not be the case; or that the beta was necessarily the type to call several times and bring flowers on the first date.

Even here, betas (presumably 80% of the male population) are often spoken of as if they were 40-year-old virgins playing World of Warcraft in their dead mother's basement. The average non-alpha male isn't even remotely that pathetic; if there is a top 20% of males, then there surely is a bottom 20% of males. In fact, Beta Bucks is a valid, if less desirable, mating strategy; they do get women, just not on the most favorable of terms. Hell, the majority of the men who stormed Normandy on June 6, 1944, were probably betas.

Had to make my own reply. For those guys who think you should balance alpha/beta to keep or get girls the following is very important and critical for you to understand. There is no such thing as alpha with a side of beta or beta with a side of alpha. You should strive for your mental point of origin to be alpha.

Read the rational male where he talks about this in-depth. It means always putting yourself first and not trying to be someone just to get or keep women.

If you are trying to model your behavior as "balanced" because that is what women want you have already failed that shit test. Your want is always to be the top priority.
