EMPATHY - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

SYMPATHY - feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune.

You can understand someone and not think their problems are serious or valid.A good example is teenagers. You can understand teenagers, while still thinking they're dumb and waste too much of their time on stupid teen dramas.

This is what I think is a problem with sexless men and the fat acceptance movement.Fat Acceptance: I'm sure most women/people understand how it feels to feel ugly and be mocked. That does not give the fat acceptance movement an excuse to demand men be attracted to them nor an excuse to insult women like Lizzo who don't want to be "fat and happy".

Sexless men: I'm sure most men/people understand how it feels to not have the ideal sex life and how it feels to be disappointed that life didn't live up to your expectations. That doesn't mean that blue balls is a societal problem nor that women are to blame for not giving these men sexual pleasure.

Another example would be the Gorilla Glue lady. I understand improvising and using a replacement product in a rush. I can't sympathize with someone who used glue in their hair. Even though I understand the reason, she should have known better and just quickly went to a hair store to get hair spray instead using glue.

To make this more related to PPD, just because a man can understand the feelings of other men, doesn't mean they'll agree on the same topic. Hence, why we have "blue pilled men" who scoff at Manosphere ideology. Not because they're "simps", but because they dealt with their problems in another way... or realized how stupid they were in the past.
