So often they don't make any money cause they are just trying to pay back what they have already borrowed. So in fact they have "earned nothing" in real world terms or at least have nothing to show for it by the time they are done.

There are 2 types of boyfriends strippers have:

1) A lowlife ex-con badboy deadbeat who has even worse life prospects than her, and is either cheating on her, beating her, spending all her money, or d) all of the above.

2) A rich and/or handsome guy that she's trying to snare into being her bailout, but who usually sees her as nothing more than a fling and an interesting story to tell his buddies about.

The first type is easily dispensed with. Strippers tend to come from broken environments, and so they seek out guys from the same type of environments, and then are surprised that, lo and behold, they are exactly like the guys she was trying to escape from in her old environment (e.g. her family / hometown).

The second type is probably what she's referring to here. She probably thinks that because he buys her dinner once in a while, and is actually sort of nice and charming around her, that he's into this for the longhaul. When the truth is, she's part of his rotation, but is not part of his future. And so when he inevitably gets bored, he bails and the woman spins her hamster to avoid facing the truth that she is not good relationship material to any man with value.

Contrary to her assertion, neither one is insecure or lacks self confidence. Anyone with those traits would be an instant turnoff to a stripper to begin with. They have tons of men begging them every night for sex, and plenty propositioning them with money / drugs / etc to hangout outside the club. They're attracted precisely to the guys they perceive as high value who aren't stooping to begging them for a date.
