You know what I see is a common trend in these reviews? They call her out for being a Mary Sue.

For those who don't know, a Mary Sue is a character who has no real weaknesses or low points, and are seemingly always the best at what they do. It makes them less real, less relatable, and alienates them from an audience. Some Mary Sues can be written well, or even saved from the title of Mary Sue. Looking back, Superman was very much a Mary Sue. The first hero I can think of that broke this stereotype on purpose was Spider-Man, who was intentionally created to win half of his battles, and lose the other half.

Haven’t seen - will do and possibly update. My only beef with this is that there was such a furore witnessed online about how much it would be shit from men, that this point is moot. Let the film be made. Let it get released. Let it get reviewed. But the sensationalisation of those opposed for months is what made this an issue. The main actress having stated it’s just a movie, and nothing to do with first this or that or whatever - I cannot help but see that this is some bullshit Newtonian notion but started by the hate group, defended by the benefit of the doubt group, and escalated to ridiculousness. It’s a fucking movie with a female lead and could be great or shit but fucking hell this conversation didn’t happen with any man, cap, iron man, panther etc. Sheer knowledge of the fact there’s an argument is proof the argument didn’t need to be had.

The problem with these headlines is that it discounts the reviews/opinions of a reviewer simply because they are a man. Saying that a man can't have a genuine/credible opinion about a movie with a female protagonist is ridiculous, and these stupid clickbait websites make it seem like if someone doesn't like the movie it's because they simply hate women.

And worse yet, when you claim only men don't like something, when you have women who dislike that same thing you put them into a hole where they are "siding with the patriarchy," and that they should like that thing simply because they are women.

I find that a lot of modern feminism likes to think this way, where if you criticize women in any form or fashion you automatically become the bad guy... thus disqualifying your opinion/statement.

Making a "girl power" movie isn't awful imo, but almost always the woman is a Mary Sue. I think real girl power is a real woman, who has short comings and failures, but she gets back up onto her feet and tries again. A strong woman does not equal an invincible woman.
