It looks like a project by an earnest high school girl being egged on by a feminist teacher. If you want somebody to draw up a neatly laid out poster in perky handwriting with all the prices in the left column multiplied by 0.84, girls are much more reliable than boys for these kinds of tasks - boys are more likely to get bored and do a sloppy job of it (or just print out the spreadsheet). It's one of the reasons why young women are so much in demand by modern businesses for routine entry level tasks requiring neatness and patience; and if they do a good job, they might rise to the level of executive assistant.

They're working from an 84c on the dollar proportion. Typically these stunts use the 75c figure.

I can't even begin how they even reason this to begin with. Even if you did believe in the wage gap high school kids get their money off their parents anyway and don't earn their own money with the exception of perhaps having a paper round. Surely the parents must be angry over this.

If you're a girl, you have an arbitrage opportunity. Buy a bunch of snacks at 84c on the dollar and resell nearby to the guys for like 92c on the dollar.

But of course others will pick up on this, and drive the price down even further, almost back to 84c on the dollar.

So this would not work, except as a cheesy stunt.

It's likley a lesson or example of the wage gap. Nevermind that it's been debunked more times than I care to count....we still need to keep reinforcing the idea so we make sure we raise women with the same level of perceived victimhood as we do black people.

Kids don't tend to have jobs. As such it's not really fair even if you do believe in the wage gap myth. This would be sexism plain and simple but I'm pretty sure it's not real anyway.
