I (40M) was divorced in 2023 after 10 years of marriage. When we split our assets, it worked out that my equity in the house and what I owned her in 401k was even. Effectively, when splitting the assets, I kept all my 401K and she kept all the equity in the house. The end result was that I was cash poor in the short term, but thinking about it now, better off long term. Would you rather have as an asset a $400k house or $400k 401k. I think the 401k will long term bring me way more value, am I thinking about this correctly?

Something for those of you going through it to think about.
