in sales this is called golden handcuffs, in your case bronze. Weigh your happiness being able to spend the rest of your life doing what you want, or just start doing that and stay married.

If you make good money. Get the lawyer and recommend a divorce finance specialist. There are things you can do legally with money. With trusts etc: You need to know what your state does but yeah most will put the support on you unless you can do a 1 time payout. Spiteful wives will take you as much as she can.

Playing a long game might be best so you get the ducks lined up. Like over the next year.

My divorce cost me almost $2.5M at age 48. It sucks. But for me it was worth it.

Alternatively- just tell her you’re unhappy and see if she’ll go for a DADT relationship.

Is it mainly due to lack of sex or is there more?

I would hate to see you financially suffer after a divorce at your age if this is the root cause.

Step 1: see an attorney & find out what you’re truly on the hook for

Step 2: if it’s truly onerous try to find a way to relocate to a state that is not onerous. Or possibly a 2nd home in such a state may help you.

Step 3: consider retiring early and if by doing so and waiting a couple years you’d legally be off the hook for alimony as you both would be retired with no income and no jobs.

This is basically how my own divorce went down by happenstance. We moved several years back from a state where I’d have been legally f’d to one where I would not. I had already retired quite early in life. When she called it quits where we were living, all she could legally get was 1/2 and no more.

I will never understand people în a divorce process which say: i have no problem leaving her x or y. Do you know if, in a reverse situatiin, she will do the same? I wouldn't give anything which is not decide upon. Maybe ylif you retain 50% of the house you will have an easier life. You are the most important from now on, not her.

This has been discussed several times on this thread. If you are close to retirement and have a lot in liquid assets, its best to move the assets offshore and not disclose anything. Some other options are to get her signature on a legal separation or relocate to another country yourself.

If you are ready to part with half your money, you never recover financially. Always better at your age to keep what you have earned

Spousal support depends on income depends on income. Just quit your job and say you retired

I was 47 when I got divorced, I got lucky, you should hire a lawyer to explore your options if you want to go thru the divorce, in some states depending on the length of the marriage is the amount of years alimony is awarded and since she's a sahw with no income to support herself I think that you being willing to give her half of entitled is mostly an empty gesture because the judge will make you do that anyway so maybe getting ahead of the curve is smart, but you should rethink your approach, the house is yours too maybe the lawyer can use it as leverage to negotiate things,.

Retirement is normally split in half as it was accumulated during the marriage so not much you can do there

Unless you can get her to voluntarily give up alimony or anything else you're at the mercy of the judge and your local laws but don't give up anything for nothing after you get what you can live with (nobody gets the perfect ending) then you can give things ,

But remember she has the means by virtue of your bank account to hire a lawyer herself so you need to be prepared

Just think past your vacation and being free part. Have you thought about what your day to day will be like by yourself? Also do you have a plan on how to be intimate with other people? I agree with one of the other posts don't divorce but do what you want including being with other people

What state? Talk to an attorney. With your assets surely you could come to some sort of arrangement/buyout. If you're in a state with alimoney requirements try to get a job transfer to a more favorable state. Make a plan and work it - you're obviously a strategic thinker - apply logic to your situation and execute.
