What bothers me even more besides the tone throughout the article (which seems very "OF COURSE I am OK with it and not jealous and I SO love his girlfriend" lady doth protest too much-ish) is that when it was shared on Facebook, someone commented that it reeks of self-esteem issues and a bunch of PickMes commented that "No, someone has to be very secure to not be jealous, this is high self-esteem" as if people have to be OK with sharing their partner to be seen as secure. I don't know the writer personally so I don't know whether she really feels the way she claims in the article or not (my sense is that she's trying to convince herself her situation is OK), but I just so dislike this insinuation from people reading the article that if you're not OK with it you're somehow insecure. It sends such a bad message to women.

I'm so tired of women being expected to trust in men and their intentions, as if the men were literally God, and all of life is just a test to show your devotion and faith to God. It seems even worse in nonreligious women. These men have done NOTHING to deserve that kind of devotion, they can't even keep their dicks in their pants, they are the worst possible partners, and demand the highest level of self-sacrifice from women.

[–]TikiTikiTata-chalalaFDS Newbie 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're right, at least religious women acknowledge that men are sinners too- though they use that to justify shitty behavior as well

Nonreligious women completely deify their partners- bc a man is a ✨crowning jewel of social status ✨

Oof, if we compared emotional abuse to physical abuse more often the world would be so, so much simpler 🙏

[–]queeninprogressFDS Newbie 65 points66 points67 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This this this. Things like FWB or polygamy get talked about as "you have to be very emotionally mature to handle this" "you have to be so secure for this to work" which of course then gives the implication that if you're NOT okay with these things you're immature/insecure. It is a subtle form of manipulation. You don't want to be immature and insecure do you? Adults can handle these things!

[–]Lost_Kale90FDS Apprentice 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's such a cope. I wish they would just say what it is "My boyfriend doesn't have the capacity to commit to me, and I'd rather stay with him than be alone." "It's not cheating if I tell him he can do it." "I don't trust that I'll find any guy that would commit to me, so might as well be poly, it'll hurt less." etc.

I wish women would get in the habit of asking themselves who benefits from these arrangements. It sure as fuck isn't them

[–]East-Willingness513FDS Newbie 75 points76 points77 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The best outcome in these gross situations is for the women to fall in love with each other and leave the scrote.

[–]Terrible-Detective93 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is a movie like this 'Diablolique' , there's the old 50's version and then the more modern version which is pretty campy but enjoyable nonetheless-

This is sad. It reads as passive and detached to the point of dissociation. Those jealousy pangs are her actual self coming through before she locks them down.

I just hope they're saving for therapy as well as college funds for those kids.

[–]aquietswordFDS Newbie 96 points97 points98 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Morons can tell me again and again how women are allowed to express all our emotions freely, but it'll always be bullshit. We have a set of shit that's approved, another set that's ok but will stupidly affect how all women are perceived, and another set that will get active hate. The approved set barely includes anything. Which means so many women shove so many emotions into a box, to the point of gaslighting ourselves into the approved emotions.

[–]whiskey_and_oreosFDS Apprentice 59 points60 points61 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Spot on. And then when we have pangs of jealousy, gut punches of intuition, and eventually full on mental breakdowns that get us medicated and sedated, it's all wrapped up in the name of taking care of your mental health but in a patriarchy-approved way. This is why self care is branded as bubble baths and wine and we're labeled hysterical when that's not enough.

[–]HhjjuuyFDS Apprentice 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Even the approved emotions can't be expressed authentically, only a specific version of them. Like happiness or gratitude. We can't be quietly content or thankful, we need to be jubilant, excitable and overjoyed. Our appreciation has to be greater than whatever we're grateful for. And if our performance of these emotions doesn't read as real enough we will be equally punished for it.

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondonFDS Newbie 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This exactly. Women are relentlessly socialized to over-express positive emotions, so men can feel better about themselves.

Also, maybe it’s just the grinch in me, but I hate gratitude exercises for this reason. I’m properly grateful to G-d and others when nice things happen for me, but it’s actually totally okay to be unsatisfied with your life, as long as you act on it. I suspect the reason gratitude is so heavily pushed on women especially is that it’s a way of resigning yourself to the status quo. If you believe changing major things in your life is out of the question, then sure, it makes sense to try to like what you have. But I’d rather go out and get what I actually like.

[–]TikiTikiTata-chalalaFDS Newbie 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Our appreciation has to be greater than whatever we're grateful for. And if our performance of these emotions doesn't read as real enough we will be equally punished for it.

This is so true. And it hurts.

[–]scorchedsouIFDS Newbie 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why do I always hear that women are allowed to express their emotions while men are not? Reality seems to be the exact opposite.

It's girls who are told to act older than they are and suppress their anger and always be polite, even when they're being harmed or preyed on. It's women who are told to smile to please men's eyes and never be sad or angry or selfish.

It's women who are basically trained like dogs to be an emotionally dead resource for those around them, but always with a fake smile to look fuckable of course. They are systematically brainwashed to suppress their own will and initiative in favour of that of scrotes. To suppress their physical pain and discomfort so that they can wear heels and make-up all day while men are treated like human beings who can wear comfortable clothes and not be considered unprofessional.

As for boys? "Boys will be boys" They're allowed to be children and then they're allowed to be men. Society not only permits, but embraces the disgusting traits that are unique to them. Their uncontrolled sexuality and aggression. Male nature and masculinity is fully embraced in every society. It's only a minority of males that display feminine behaviour and female-typical sexuality, that's reminiscent of women, that are considered subhuman, because once again, they remind people of women.

If "society"(men) shames men for crying, it is because they bitch and whine over the most insignificant of problems. They're babied so much by their mommies, they think other women will do the same. Other women not actively catering to their every need is enough for them to experience a full on mental breakdown and go shoot up a school. It has really reached the point where even a male supremacist society has grown sick and tired of listening to their shit.

If you told a man to prove he's really mature and secure he should let a hotter younger taller buffer man with a bigger penis fuck his wife/girlfriend he would laugh in your face.

I use shoe on the other foot comparisons like this as one of my most basic logic tests. What you described would be my exact answer to why I would never agree to this type of arrangement. Why more women don't do this type of reasoning to determine bullshit proposals like this is truly beyond me.

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondonFDS Newbie 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As he should lol.

Honestly, I really side-eye men who call me “mature” now (even though I obviously think maturity is a good thing). For most of them it’s either a porn term or a blatant attempt to groom you into letting them get away with absurd shit.

It sounds like the author and her husband have found themselves a bangmaid. The girlfriend sleeps with the husband, cooks family dinner, and babysits the kids for extended periods of time...? What the hells is she getting out of this arrangement aside from dick and dishes to wash?

Edit: To add, I feel really sorry for the girlfriend. I hope she recognizes that her needs are important, too, and she's being taken advantage of. She deserves more.

I’m secure and open-minded. I’m secure because my boyfriend is faithful and adores me and despite being an independent single mum, I’m increasingly open to the ideal of marrying him… because I’m secure due to him proving repeatedly how he respects and cares for me. What a crazy way to approach relationships 🙄

[–]NotMyRealName814FDS Newbie 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is so sad. I've struggled with self esteem issues just like many other women but I can't for the life of me imagine agreeing to this kind of bullshit scenario.

Thus began the traditional Fleming evocation. The rite repeats each full moon cycle or upon viewing the words "ethical non-monogamy" or "poly." Then we all contort against walls in the tortured "mating in captivity" dance.
