Absolutely horrible. I hope they find him before he offs himself.

He's probably safe and sound. Narcissists don't hurt themselves.

Yeah, it’s jarring to me the number of people I’ve seen on Reddit talk about this guy ending himself.

The clown quietly drove Gabby’s car across the country to his family’s house, lawyered right up and hunkered down for over a week while he waited for others to put the pieces together. Then he had his family cover for him for another 4 days to give himself another headstart while he goes on the lam.

That behavior is practically THE textbook definition of self-preservation.

This dude is pulling out the all the stops to survive and thrive after this. This disappearance is just to pad out his inevitable “insanity” plea.

Give it a couple of years. It’ll be a key selling point when he tries to shop around his memoir.

His worthless family is probably hiding him somewhere with plenty of comforts and video games

They convince themselves that they’re innocent. They lie so much to others that they eventually believe it themselves and genuinely can’t believe they are being punished or outed. Like, “who? ME?”

💔 a friend of mine participated in the search so ive been following the events and checking reddit periodically because they had the best source of live updates. It was so frustrating because people had all these crazy theories about HER being the abusive one, or the boyfriend being some criminal mastermind (in reality he is just an average, cowardly, gaslighting abusive loser)

The police cam painted a very clear picture of a reactive abuse and gaslighting. And misogyny amongst the police too. The whole thing has been heartbreaking, and it is so hard to watch her suffer with treatment that she didn't even know was abuse and not get any help. It's impossible to watch that footage and not want to hug her and explain to her that she's not crazy. Those cops completely failed her.

Once the witnesses came forward and the story started unfolding itself I lost hope that she'd be found alive, because I know that it is dangerous (in abusive relationships) when women break up with men, and I strongly suspected that she had called off their engagement or even broke up with him on the 29th.

They had split up for a few days because they weren't getting along. She stayed with the van while he was gone for days hiking. He was very likely supposed to meet her back at the van at a set time, but showed up extremely late (last witness placed him hitchhiking the wrong way at 6p.m.). So she had been sitting there alone all day and into the night, into the dark. Sitting there probably scared out if her mind and wondering if he was okay. She was without signal, with no way of communicating to her friend (who she had plans with that day but didn't have the service to contact) and no way of contacting him either. They would've had a big fight upon his return for sure. And i just have a gut feeling that she broke up with him. And he reacted violently, like they often do (abusive men). Then he panicked and drove home to his mom like a coward.

I had a horrible feeling she'd be found today once the story started coming together (to be clear i'm just speculating based on detailed I've learned though).

Senseless loss of life and she deserved so much better. At least her family has some sort of peace knowing that she was found.

I agree with you, the cops completely failed her. It makes me so angry.

[–]xD_itgoes 125 points126 points127 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sad situation all around. My parents were really hopeful she was still alive, but I knew if the scrote escaped and hid away for so long it was over...

[–]PetuniaXoFDS Newbie 62 points63 points64 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

😞 Ugh. This is heartbreaking. For her, her family, and all the women like her whose stories were never told.

Some people were saying maybe they had a fight and he just left her in the middle of nowhere, so I still had hope that she was alive, even if I knew it was unlikely.

It's blatantly obvious, now, that he murdered her. Why else would he refuse to talk to police and then go on the run/ into hiding? I hope he lives a miserable existence for the rest of his days.

It's especially chilling to those of us who have been in abusive relationships, knowing that could have very well been any of us. 😔

[–]sacchilaxFDS Newbie 169 points170 points171 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I knew this was going to be the outcome. From the beginning I just knew he killed her. I honestly thank FDS bc before I actually might’ve thought he didn’t and “sHe KiLlED hErSeLf” as various scrote and pickmiesha heavy subs have been tying to say.

[–]GlitterLoveAngelFDS Newbie 237 points238 points239 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

It still bothers me that people were calling her abusive from the body cam footage. He pushed her so she scratched him probably as an attempt to get his hands off of her. Isn’t that what equal rights equal rights is about maIe lurkers? Nonetheless though she still wouldn’t be able to physically defend herself against him without a weapon. It’ll never be an equal fight.

It’s so sad that this happened to her and that there are people there blaming her for it and saying “She should’ve been arrested. She wouldn’t be missing if she was” no HE should have been. Red flags were everywhere by him in the footage. Falsely accusing women of abuse and sexual assault and putting the blame on them to avoid responsibility are so easy to get away with nowadays because there are people there who don’t believe that men are even capable of doing such a thing.

I really hope that the remains aren’t her. But unfortunately, it’s unlikely that isn’t the case. I really wish her the best and peace.

And of course, we really need to start naming the problem. The more women that are aware of this, the true nature of men, and that it’s not women's responsibility to change a man despite what the media says, there would be so much more women alive today.

[–]ylang_ylangFDS Newbie 184 points185 points186 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes and the whole locking her out of the car until she “calmed down” because she has “anxiety”. Probably anxiety from being in the relationship with him. Men always find a way to exploit our vulnerabilities into a mental illness.

That footage was so sickening. Clear case of reactive abuse. (Editing to explain that "reactive abuse" is a form of abuse where the abuser provokes the abused into having a reaction, so that the abused looks or feels unstable. Upon eliciting a reaction the abuser will switch to a calm state.) If you had cast a bunch of actors to play a scene displaying reactive abuse you couldn't have written a better script. And yet the cops totally missed it (and actually, far worse that just missing it, they fucking became fast bros with the boyfriend while totally dismissing her as crazy).

Her boyfriend, the abuser, gaslighted her into thinking SHE was the one who was the problem in their relationship. And she was SO distraught about it. At one point she was kind of doubled over and she had her hands on her knees for a second, in so much emotional distress from her own perceived failure. Fucking heartbreaking. She clearly had a good heart and was devastated by her own "irrational" (it wasn't) breakdown. She was gaslit into thinking she was crazy. And she had no idea it was abuse. She blamed it ALL on herself (for having anxiety and ocd). And the cops and boyfriend were happy to agree.

She deserved so much better. I hope it's a wake up call to those cops, and cops all over. They need to process how deeply they failed her otherwise this WILL happen again to more women again and again.

[–]povofmeFDS Newbie 77 points78 points79 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I seriously don’t think how anyone can say she looked like the abusive one. She was genuinely so emotional and was blaming everything on herself, a real abuser wouldn’t do that. The way he was calm the whole time is a million times more of a red flag for him being abusive.

[–]FrogspocketFDS STRATEGY COACH 60 points61 points62 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Literally just got a comment reply from another sub in my inbox from a guy who says Gabby was clearly the agressor in the body cam footage. It's a comment sentiment being echoed online.

Brian's lawyers will almost certainly use that to fight their case. They'll paint her as the aggressor and claim Brian acted in self defense. As ridiculous as that argument is, it'll still win over misogynists.

[–]ConstantNurseFDS Newbie 49 points50 points51 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This is why I wish they had Battered Persons Advocates on the scene as well or even trained mental health personnel to respond to domestic situations between obviously an abusive couple's situation. The biggest factor is getting both parties significantly away from each other to talk to them. Having him in the background with her in ear shot of him, knowing if she said anything contrary he would be after her, on top of being in a remote area where she had no clue what would be the best way to get away.

The dickhole cop who hassled her should be fired. The initial cop who seem to understand the situation but was upstaged by dickhole cop, is going to be living with that "what if I had done better" the rest of his life. Poor Gabby. Poor her family.

[–]glitterandsparkFDS Newbie 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Part of the challenge is even good cops get compassion fatigue. For many women in DV situations there isn’t anything that can be said or done, and it takes several times to leave the abuser. Multiply that by the officer’s jurisdiction and they’re likely seeing this several times per shift. If they get a statement it’s often later recanted. DV is one of the few times cops are actually helpless to assist the citizen in crisis. It does take a toll on the good ones.

[–]ConstantNurseFDS Newbie 35 points36 points37 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

While I am not disagreeing with you, yes all personnel in any sort of human support is going to get fatigued. They did not do a proper DV assessment and quickly took sides before finding out what was going on.

DV assessment requires more than pulling the person to the cop car still within earshot of the person. Both should have been interviewed at the same time with one cop on one person, and the other on the other. Then both reconvene and move from there. It is much less intimidating to have one cop vs two on you. Neither asked her if she felt safe with him or if she was being abused. Nor did they talk to the bystanders who called in the initial report to get an outsiders idea of what is going on.

I'm heartbroken for her because I can see the terror in her eyes and personally know how being in that position is. I really hope that the younger ladies out there take our experiences to heart to not end up a statistic.

[–]glitterandsparkFDS Newbie -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree they handled this poorly. What’s tough is I think even good cops don’t get results in these situations and don’t get the victims to be candid and leave the abuser. Even if they do things right to get an admission, it is so often recanted later. I was in a job once where compassion fatigue set in quickly, despite my best efforts to keep seeing things positively, and I realized my care for the situations wasn’t affecting the outcomes, an uncaring person would get the same results. I had to get out of that job, I wish people in law enforcement would do the same. That and better hiring to begin with. All we can hope is young women see this and think twice. No one can assure our safety except for us.

[–]Phoenix__Rising2018Ruthless Strategist 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Reactive abuse is a misnomer that men and pickmes have created. It's not abuse to fight back when somebody's hitting you, choking you, threatening you... That's not abuse. Abuse also has an element of power whereas these actions are the reaction of someone who has no power. Furthermore their actions are not used to gain control like an abuser's are. It's missing all the elements to even call it abuse.

[–]FrogspocketFDS STRATEGY COACH 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not a misnomer, you're just misunderstanding it!!! It's a very real form of abuse where the abuser provokes the abused into having a reaction." It's real. It's not invented by pickmes and men. That's dangerous misinformation!! Women need to know these terms and understand that what they're experiencing is abuse!!

I am not saying that she was abusing him, I'm saying she was reacting. The abuse tactic is to make her have a reaction (scream, cry, hit something) and to look or feel crazy. After getting a reaction the abuser will usually be very calm (they often smirk) and act as though the abused is crazy and that the "evidence" of their craziness is the outburst they just had. It's common in gaslighting.

Please look it up, because it's dangerous misinformation to dismiss it as pickme. You can go to any domestic violence site and see it listed.

Men should have to eat their own words, he should have left her if she was abusive.

And, truthfully, he would have, if she had really been abusive, and all of his decisions were in good faith. But an ex-girlfriend doesn't give you free sex or access to a free middle class lifestyle.

[–]ChickaDeeD33FDS Newbie 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But why didn't you just leave her?

Did you try communicating with her?

What did you do to upset her so much to make her react that way? How was this whole situation actually your fault bro?

[–]coolstorybroseph420FDS Newbie 48 points49 points50 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yup. They should have arrested him for assault when she told them he grabbed her face.

I'm no body language expert but his crossed hands and fists in front of the police immediately suggested he's got something to hide. When the second officer questioned his demeanor "are you usually this hyper?" gave a sense that he noticed something was off about this man.

What's the connection with the lesbian couple that was found murdered? It seemed like the 2 incidents are really far away from each other too. Is it just speculation from people who don't realize that? It could also be news stories not giving the right areas lol. The La Sals are real far away from where Gabby was found though.

[–]the-worst-FDS Newbie 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's sad that his family still seems to be trying to protect him (using a lawyer for contact with the police) even though it's pretty obvious he killed gabby.

Like who tf just returns home without a whole ass person in tow and thinks they can just hide away until this blows over as if all he did was break up with her on her birthday or something.

It's sickening. Don't trust a man to take you out into the wilderness, ladies. Especially not far away from home for extended periods of time.
