I'm posting this to the sub because it's a really good example of bad behavior that's not the usual totally egregious stuff that we see.

All of that is unacceptable. I can't believe he snatched all the bread and then he ordered two sides and a main that he knows you don't even like and then eats your food on top of it! Could not believe he took one of your only 5 scallops! I would never even speak to that man again. I would have excused myself to the restroom and deleted his phone number during the meal.

Who cares about the flowers? He can't bribe you with 10$ of flowers to overlook total assery on his part! Was he raised in a BARN?! Yikes! Bad manners. Bad table manners. Selfishness. Oblivious about it. I am offended on your behalf!

This is literally the kind of behavior your parents teach you is rude. I wouldn’t bother going out again with someone who was so crass. He obviously isn’t going to correct this behavior, nor should you be the one to try and coach him too.

He was wearing jordan's with jeans and a summer button up. I didn't want to judge him on that alone as he bought me flowers and he has never bought any girl flowers before.

I'm horrified by the bit about the bread alone. That isn't kinda rude, it's super rude! This is the kind of guy who will be a selfish egomaniac and then occasionally toss out a crumb or two (flowers, awww) so that you will keep thinking he's not that bad. Do NOT get caught up in this trap.

I don’t mind sharing, but on my terms. Like if I’m done or I offer. I even think it’s rude to ask to try someone’s food - let alone help yourself.

There would be no second date. It’s a basic lack a manners and I don’t have time to see what other manners they lack.

Eta: this guy needs to eat with my old Shire gelding. The young, newly off the track thoroughbred tried to shoehorn his way into Big Billy's meal one too many times. BB calmly & firmly stepped back & bodychecked the 900 lbs thoroughbred into the wall & casually pinned him with his 2200 lbs. Thoroughbred learned his lesson.

The reason you're upset is because this type of behaviour triggers our most basic instincts: we need food to live. Yes in the west we live in abundance, & the food you were eating wasn't survivial food, but food is still a very basic human need. This man clearly demostrated that he will take from you the most basic things you need to survive, even when he already has more than you, and more than he needs. This is pure selfishness & greed.

Men helping themselves to womens food is misogyny & male entitlement. The sexism around food also means that in some countries women & girls are expected to eat second, get less food, or get poorer quality food which leads to higher levels of female mortality. In the west it means men help themselves to our food as well as thier own, and they often shame us for eating.

Frankly, I'd have stabbed him with my fork. He has no respect for you - he's selfish, rude & greedy. As u/MadamLeFay said: what's his is his, & what's yours is his too. Why would you want a life with a man that will take everything from you? Imagine, for whatever reason, you two were stranded with limited food - he'd eat it leaving you to go hungry.

No that's definitely rude. Most people when they want to try your food first offer some of their food, and wait for you to maybe offer. He needs to learn some basic etiquette before he goes on another date, or even out to dinner with anyone.

I’ve only met one guy who did this and he was extremely spoiled as a child by his mom so he feels entitled. Normal guys do not do this
