The idea this image perpetuates, that the reason abuse is because of a scared little boy who has either been abused himself or has low self esteem, is a myth. Lundy Bancroft deconstructs this in his book Why does he do that which needs to be required reading for this sub.

First off, abuse isn’t caused by anger. Men get angry because of their abusive mindset: their partner does not conform to how they expect (by attending all his needs, listening and not talking, being constantly available sexually—these are the abusive demands).

If he has been abused as a child, therapy to overcome that abuse should also address his treatment of women, but it doesn’t. It also shifts the blame off him to someone else.

I have sometimes said to a client, “If you are so in touch with your feelings from your abusive childhood, then you should know what abuse feels like. You should be able to remember how miserable it was to be cut down to nothing, to be put in fear, to be told that the abuse is your own fault. You should be less likely to abuse a woman,not more so, from having been through it.” Once I make this point, he generally stops mentioning his terrible childhood; he only wants to draw attention to it if it’s an excuse to stay the same, not if it’s a reason to change. - Lundy Bancroft

Second, the idea that the man is just uwu sensitive poor boy. Abusive men expect to be catered to, no matter how much you build them up, the think they deserve it, and demand more.

The self-esteem myth is rewarding for an abuser, because it gets his partner, his therapist, and others to cater to him emotionally. Imagine the privileges an abusive man may acquire: getting his own way most of the time, having his partner bend over backward to keep him happy sohe won’t explode, getting to behave as he pleases, and then on top of it all, he gets praise for what a good person he is, and everyone is trying to help him feel better about himself!

Do not believe this lie ladies. Do you get angry because you’re so sad inside? Stop coddling men.

Women have this except we feel shame and guilt and try and be better.

I feel empathy for boys who act our due to trauma bur once you’re an adult, Nope, grow the fuck up. Trauma is a reason to get help not an excuse to treat anyone like shit.

They don’t view women as human beings so we are the perfect punching bags for their trauma.

And men created the family system with stressed and unhappy mothers. If they wanted it to end, truly wanted it to end, they’d be all for changing it. They don’t. They just want to bellow and have women be their therapists and sex toys.

I had a male friend who stopped videocalling me every day (and frankly, thank god) and got all angry and giving me the silent treatment because one day I was frankly not in the mood to answer (I was also eating with my family) 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk what he expected of me but apparently I’m now “toxic”.

On a side note, I’m doing my damndest to make sure I nurture my sons to have their feelings validated. To learn self respect and discipline. To basically do my best to do MY job as their mother so they can be emotionally intact and healthy men.

I’m so mad at my mother in law and father in law (ex) for how they raised my ex and the whole family dynamic is toxic. But I also know my ex, as a grown ass man, had the means and resources to help himself and refused. So bye 👋🏼 for me and mostly for my sons who deserve better than to repeat generational curses. That shit stops here!
