I second this big time. I was married to a man that did this too me for 29 years. 34 together all up. Four children and a grandson. Once I started to have health problems and mental health issues all from being emotionally abused for all those years, at around 50 years old, he cruelty discarded me by a whats app message. Refused to talk to me except to say we were over. The dreaded silent treatment has always been a trait of his. I strongly recommend this quote to all women of all ages. The good news is..after this nearly destroying my very soul, 1 year after I’m starting to come better than ever. I like being on my own without a tyrant over shadowing me 24/7 If I had my time over again I’d have never bothered him again 1 month after we met. I have a long way too go however I’m coming good! I donot want another relationship at present however I am looking forward to maybe meeting the right man where love and respect is mutual. Armed with what I know now that may happen one day, if not, I’m happy on my own. Another quote I now live by is “ when they show you who they are? Believe them the FIRST time!” Hope this will help someone. Much love to u all.

I’m sorry he treated you so poorly.

Thank you for your wisdom. I'm happy and hopeful for you!

So sorry you went through this for so many years! I really appreciate your message. Personally, I feel very ashamed to admit the amount of years I’ve wasted my time with men that have treated me poorly. For me it’s been 20 years of “smart assness,” disappointments and games. 14 years total with my narcissistic ex husband who discarded me when i was sick, then 5 years with a mentally ill ex boyfriend that recently gave my life chaos and caused major damage to it. WOW, it feels good to get that off my chest, LOL...
...I pray that someday I get to the level where I love myself enough to be happy and just fine alone, so i look up to your strength ❤️ Good luck and keep on staying true to your path!

Im so sorry you were treated so badly. And I'm so sorry you felt you needed to put up with it. You survived. You're out. And now you have perspective when before you couldnt possibly.
I wish I didnt have a similar story.
I wish every woman here didnt have a similar story.

I am so sorry for your experience :( But I agree with your message and hope for the best, for you and anyone else in similar situations

My father does this to my Mum and it is beyond toxic. He literally sees right through her while she dances around for validation.
I've always told myself that the minute a partner ignores me (knowing my history), its over. I could not bear that dehumanisation, it is bad enough seeing my Mum experience it. Good for you for thriving!

Started talking to a guy through OLD. Started asking questions to get to know each other better. On the second day of conversation I asked a question and he said, “Wow. Enough with the damn questions!” Blocked. Deleted.
The old pickme in me would have apologized. Nah. If me getting to know you is so disturbing to you, I’d rather not get to know you. Not worth it.

Sis, my ex (who I met online) told me I was talking too much on our 4th date!!!!!
I forgave myself because I had never dated, nor did I know the full scope about ghosting, abusive men, breadcrumbing, none of it.
So I just stopped talking and he'd reward me. This obviously started a very abusive relationship. What sickens me is men like him play the longgame. The subtle abuser that won't start until you're hooked.
My saving grace was that I apologized for his actions. He got so bored he left!

I’m at the point where I apologize AND block and delete hahaha baby steps!
[–]devoushkaFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What the hell? How do you keep a conversation going without asking questions?
[–]hungrylemonFDS Newbie191 points192 points193 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I used so much of my mental emergy for someone who acts like I am his joy of life one day and I am disturbing him the next day... Even though I never initiated interaction with him, but he did to me, just to make me confused.
I am tired. I deserve honest behaviours and non-mixed messages.

You for sure do! My ex made me feel so unwanted and rejected. As if I was an item on his to do list just to check off. F that!

Yes, actions speak louder than words. I've always dropped guys if they started to act disinterested or wouldn't make time for me. They would say they liked me then made up excuses why they had to suddenly cancel last minute more than once, so I was done with it.
[–]greenappletwFDS Apprentice33 points34 points35 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's all deliberate with them, with the purpose of starting an abusive relationship.
One guy I dated acted very interested on the first date, almost intimidated. Then on the second date he tried to flip the script and started acting like we've been together for decades and he was tired of my shit.
So I went home and turned down his offer for a 3rd date. IMMEDIATE gushing, romantic sounding responses, paragraph replies and emojis to my one word responses, etc. It only solidified my reasons for dumping him.

Totally feel you on the whole “love bombing” after rejection thing. I recently had a guy I was starting to date a few months ago. He seemed very interested and did the whole “online love bombing” thing: Video messages, cute emojis, compliments, etc. But when it came time to coming through on promises to actually call me to confirm dates we planned, he would always flake out. I would check him in it and he would apologize but would never have a real valid excuse for it. After the second time of that crap, he said he wanted to be “just friends” because he didn’t like the fact that I was still talking to potential dating partners! WHY would I keep my eyes on one man if he treats me like a low priority? In truth he just wasn’t an accountable man, and he KNEW that, so I agreed with the just friends thing, but he would still flake out on plans with me. So then I told him I wasn’t gonna make plans with him or invest in him anymore because it’s always “hit and miss.” He agreed and apologized, and i thought he got the message. But he STILL continued flirting with me and sent me video messages everyday!
I ended up blocking him completely. He still found me on Facebook dating, but I’ve since ignored his “like.” This is the only time I’ve ever rejected a man like this, but trust me, this won’t be the last!
[–]jenneschguetFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I swear we are all dating the same exact man, or that they all do this crap! (J/k) It’s hard for me to block them, but you did it, and now I know that I have to as well.
[–]foxfaebaeFDS Newbie52 points53 points54 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
My ex always made me feel this way. But if I was busy or wanted to spend time with my parents. He would call me non stop until I answered.
Now I freak out to text someone because of this. It was honestly mind blowing to watch him respond quickly to the girl he was cheating on me with. But yell and berate me for just calling to say have a great day. However, I have also learned to just leave people on unread or read. Until it's when I want to respond.
[–]FluffandRaincloudsRuthless Strategist25 points26 points27 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Your ex sounds like he has deep attitude issues with no reflection on you. the book Why Does He DO That? helped me understand, but it still shocks me sometimes how abusive people behave...

I love how so many of these comments can be used to describe a shitty friendship or relationship of any kind too. I’m learning so much here, thank you FDS women! I see how much I even settle with friends, though OFC I had an ex who did so much of what is written around me on this post. Thank y’all for the (much needed) education and support!

I had a guy do this to me subtly from the 1st date. So I’d busy myself with something and he’d be all put out because I’m busy. Weirdly he’d get all jealous of something as simple as me reading a book. He’d want to interrupt me and get my attention. Same if i worked on my laptop or even engrossed in writing a Reddit comment on here lol. He’d try to see what I was so busy with. But when I put everything down, want to talk or spend time together he’s not interested. Strange little man.

I mean... obviously I wouldn't be calling my bf during working hours but messages are fair game to me since he can respond to them at any time. I've had boyfriends who made it a point never ever to talk to me during working hours, even though they had breaks and did much less at their job than they pretended to do.
I'm not bombarding you with messages. I'm wishing you a nice day!

I totally get it. My ex and I wouldn’t text much during the day bc I was also super busy at work, but then I’d see he was active on IG or active within a few minutes and I’m like, why can’t he text me...if I was available I’d always make a point to text him good morning or hope he had a great day.

[–]duckfeatherduvetFDS Apprentice4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes I think you are, but I can see how! Basically if you're with someone who's neglecting you, instead of fighting for their attention, find someone else who is worth your time and will give you the attention you deserve.
It's worded as a joke, the joke being that if they were acting like they didn't want to be around you then they can't be upset when you decide not to be around them. However as most of us have experienced, when a man acts like that, he's doing it as a power play, to erode your self esteem etc and he gets angry when you decide to disengage.
