Ah, yes, I have been in this exact situation. My ex raped me and didn’t stop until he saw that I was bleeding. I ended up having to comfort him while cleaning myself off because he “felt like a dirty rapist”.

Literally my entire first "adult" relationship was like this. He was 21, and I was 16. I lost my virginity to him because I was so terrified of what was happening that I couldn't find the words to say "stop." We were together almost a year before I finally got some space for him and realized that the whole reason I had been struggling with depression during that time was because every time I tried to work through my emotions, he would tell me how bad he felt and cry (literally cry) about how he ruined my life. I spent more time comforting him than I did working through my own mess. That whole relationship is also why I will never stop fighting against media that shows high school girls dating college boys as some ideal. "Oh, I only date college guys. I'm too mature for high school boys." No. Trust me, no.

My ex beat the shit out of me and threatened to kill me when he was drunk because I left a wedding we were attending at 10 PM. I woke up covered in bruises, and I got to hug and console him and reassure him he wasn’t a bad guy for what he did. A couple of hours later, he was defending himself.

Exactly what happened with me and my ex. At the end of our relationship he had the audacity to say I never comforted him when he needed me to. I was with him through his depression that was caused from his last relationship. I had to deal with his depression for a whole year yet he couldn't do anything for me. He even thought I was the toxic one cause I got tired of comforting him everyday for a year.

This is classic “trying to guilt the other person into dropping the subject”, by making the objecting party feel “guilty” for well, objecting, the subject is more likely to be dropped in favor of the other person. In my experience, men do this to women A LOT. I feel like it’s almost...negging? Idk

This is happening all too often with the guy I’m seeing. He does something shitty, I call him out on it, he starts having a meltdown saying either 1) he’s having a panic attack. Or 2) he feels depressed. So either way, it’s never his fault.
