I’ve noticed a lot of posts here about realizing that our fathers were LVM and that made us more forgiving of NVM/LVM and less able to see the signs of low value or narcissism.
I come from the other side. I have an extremely HV father. I just turned 30 and even now my dad is an extremely supportive, wonderful human being who goes out of his way to support me, my brother, and my mother. Even other people. He always helps his single woman neighbor, his elderly neighbor across the street, the person who owns the lot next door to him at the campground he owns. He always does the right thing and goes above and beyond for everyone.
Last time he came to my house he noticed my plants were looking brown so he researched the potential problems, decided the problem had something to do with the water I was using to water the plants, learned about PH balancing the plants, and had an entire PH balancing kit shipped to my house. He is a truly wonderful father and honestly one of my best friends. I have so many examples of how much he shows he loves me and I tear up even thinking about them. Point being, I was taught that I am worth loving and special by a great family. I am very very blessed and I wish all of you ladies had that experience because you all deserve it and deserve love.
But even his example and love for me wasn’t enough for me to escape a LVM mooching off me and ruining my life for a handful of years. The societal conditioning is STRONG and I ignored so many terrible red flags because I thought it was better to be miserable most of the time (but sometimes happy when things were good for a few hours) and with someone than alone.
A lot of men look for damaged women with “daddy issues” to abuse but even women without bad fathers are susceptible to bad treatment by shitty men. We have to constantly be vetting. “Daddy issues” don’t even have to come from a rough upbringing, being raised in a patriarchal society that teaches you that your value is based on what men think of you can be enough to deflate how you see yourself and slum it with some scrub.
