during the armenian genocide, my great grandmother's entire family was killed and her along with all the other young girls were forced to convert and taken as a young teenager to be a bride to some old ass army general as a reward. either do that or be raped and killed.

she ran away in the middle of the night. waded in a river for hundreds of miles to avoid being sniffed out by dogs. these young girls walked all the way from turkey to Iraq in a desert because they would rather have died a horrible death than live as a slave. grateful for her bravery because if she didn't then I wouldn't be here today.

I am so grateful I have the choice of living on my own, leaving my house without an escort, wearing shorts and tank tops, choosing who I want to date or marry. I maintain that I am still critical of women’s lack of rights under US law and genera misogyny in the western world. We can def feel both privileged and yet desire better, more.

If you want to gain some perspective and light history on the Afghanistan situation, read the historical novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. I read it when it was published in 2007 and in light of recent events, I just read it again this past week. It’s an incredible and tragic story of women sacrifice.

I truly believe that any extremist law or enforcement created in the name of religious beliefs are not based on religion or religious beliefs at all!

They were created not because men wanted to follow the teachings of their god but because men wanted to control and manipulate women to their liking and preference. So they decided to manipulate and interpret religious scripts in a way where only they can benefit and get away with it.

I hope this situation will finally wake up feminists to the truth about Islam (practiced in this form).

I lived in a country with sharia law for several years. It is actually considered one of the most free Islamic countries in the world. But women were not allowed to own property, could not initiate divorce, could not have custody of their children if their husband decided to divorce them. When they were given the right to get educated, they stopped getting married by the droves. They immediately realized that marriage was a form of slavery.

Under Islam, the way it’s practiced in most of the world, marriage is slavery. that’s why the strictest sects are in a hurry to marry girls off so young. They want to be able to train them to slavish obedience before they are old enough to object. They certainly don’t want them to be educated.

Before you rail at me for being islamaphobic, please understand: I am phobic of all abrahamic religions. They are all patriarchal death cults that serve to enslave women.

Religion as it is practiced now, is at total odds with the rights of women. Religion has to modernize, or get out of the way.

I walk in the mornings at a track. Usually there are high school boys there running for track and field practice. As it is summer, they usually have their shirts off as they run around. I NEVER FOR ONCE THOUGHT/LOOKED AT THESE KIDS IN A SEXUAL WAY-- BECAUSE THEY ARE CHILDREN!

LIKE....again-- WTF is wrong with men!?!? My brain literally cannot even process/fathom looking at teenage boys other than children who should be protected! The fact these men see 11 year old GIRLS and see them as sexual beings honestly says volumes about so much.
