So, this isn’t the average FDS post, but I didn’t know where else to turn.

Last month I met a guy on OKCupid and we get on like a house on fire. We don’t live in the same city, so it tooks us a month to meet, and we finally did last week. Our first date was like Disney Magic, I am not kidding. I have never felt so strongly about anyone upon just meeting him, and he said the same thing about me. We basically spent the night telling eachother how much we liked eachother and just amazed at our luck.

Here’s the thing, he had mentioned in passing that he suffered from depression and anxiety, but not having met him I didn’t know what that meant for him specifically. He seemed well adjusted to me. However, the weekend after we met (I was already back home), he dropped off the face of the earth for 3 whole days. I thought he was playing mindgames and I was ready to give him the boot. But when he did talk to me again he said he had been feeling suicidal and told me he had been spiralling down for weeks now.

I REALLY like this guy. Like, I think he could be the one. And I have been where he is before myself. I don’t want to drop him just because of an illness he didn’t choose and he can’t control. However, I am also wary of becoming his therapist and emotional support pet. I want to be there for him because I see him beyond the illness, but I don’t want to lose myself and my needs either.

How can I approach this?

EDIT: Man, this is not the advice I was hoping to hear. But if 95% of women I’ve spoken to agree, I would have to be pretty stupid to go against that. I’m so sad, I genuinely think I could have ended up marrying this guy. Ugh.
