I know a friend whose husband would smile in her face and then do this behind her back (broken perfume bottles, make up cases, etc). Turns out he had a passive aggressive personality disorder. This is one of the WORST personality disorders to deal with ever. They later divorced.

If he ever does this, it’s a RED FLAG 🚩. Run for your life!

Omg! My ex did this! And yes it precedes more violent behavior. He broke all my makeup first then my doors until he finally put his hands on me. I’ll never ever tolerate this shit again.

I'm lucky to have never been hit, but I've been through too much of this semi-physical abuse. A dude hitting himself in front of me, hitting the wall in front of me, throwing things past me / next to me...

I've heard it said that things like that are men "showing you how much they want to hit you," and this goes to show they do totally see it as a healthy alternative to woman-beating. 😐

I remember my parents fighting when I was a kid and my dad taking a pair of scissors to all my mom’s clothes and ruining them. Destruction of property is absolutely abuse. Even child me could see the inherent violence in those actions.

My ex did this and it broke my heart. Not because of the the thing he broke, but the meaning behind it. He did eventually hit me too. Never again!

It is very much abuse. I don’t know if anyone of you watched horrible reality show ”Jersey Shore” but Ronnie DiMagro on it broke EVERYTHING his girlfriend on the show, Samantha owned. He did so while the team filmed everything, they didn’t stop him. He even turned her bed upside down WHILE SHE WAS SITTING ON IT CRYING begging for him to stop. Watching was also 3 other really big dudes, also ”stars” on the reality show. They also did nothing to stop him. They grabbed HER and pulled her away though. This is like 10 years ago and fans of that show STILL laughs about this ”funny episode”, making memes and amused threads on it on the subreddit for Jersey Shore. I think that is so disturbing, that an act of domestic violence was filmed by MTV and then broadcast for profit and they didn’t even condemn domestic violence in the episode, fire Ron from the show or have a guide attached to the end of the episode with information that what viewers had seen was actually criminal, domestic abuse and anyone witnessing or experiencing similar treatment should call 911 immidieately and seek help.

Yep, broken picture frames, smashed laptop, broke my bedroom door, my clothes airer. Never any of his stuff. Moved onto physical abuse, choking, held a knife to my throat etc. Girls, if a man breaks your stuff out of anger FOR REAL he will go on to physically abuse you. Don't forgive, not even once, just move on.

my ex was so drunk one night he got mad at ME when he disrespected a bouncer and caused a damn scene — when we got home he went into the other room and smashed a memory card full of photos I had taken/put together for him for Christmas with a HAMMER.. ladies I cannot even begin to tell you how done I am with shit like this, it’s never acceptable in any circumstance

This guy seriously thinks that number 1- his gf must be punished. Number 2- hitting is illegal so he will punish her by breaking her personal items instead. And it still didn’t click for him that it’s still abuse.

This is so insidious. My ex once texted a photo of my laptop with a hammer next to it. He was pissed that I went to lunch with a male friend. Passive aggression and jealousy are a toxic combo. I was loyal to him and was rewarded by him cheating on me (of fucking course.) He also punched a wall once when we were out on a double date with his married friends. Apparently he thought I was being too friendly with his dude friend because I was ‘smiling too much’ as we were all talking. Oh, and that one time we were on a road trip and he suddenly started accelerating out of nowhere until we hit 90mph driving over a steep coastal cliff highway in the dark. Fucking terrifying.
