Lots of rich guys use this tactic.Basically they make it look like they need the girl they are dating to prove to them ,that she is not after their money.And some girls fall for this.They think they need to act independent in front of rich guys to be taken seriously.

But the truth is these rich guys are very calculative and no matter how independent you act,they will only consider someone who can help them business or career wise.
