I think sayings like “Behind every great man is a strong woman” really sends the wrong message to women, like we are supposed to be the rock of the family and support his dreams, however ridiculous they may be, and never speak ill of him while cheering him on.

I was once hopelessly in love with a guy who was also my best friend. I was the supportive “you should do what you love. What would you love to do? Let’s work toward it”. He came back to me with, “i want to be an NBA coach.” Guy did not play basketball or go to college, barely finished high school... even as a young and in love pick-me, I just choked. Couldn’t even fake that I thought he could do it if he put his mind to it.

Come to think of it, at least half the men I’ve dated since then have had equally ridiculously unrealistic dreams for themselves.

Those of us who have ACTUALLY dated "rappers" will tell you that these words are like the kiss of death for the relationship. It slowly dies a painful and dragged out (and embarrassing) death. Those of us who were unfortunate enough to date a man who "wanted to become a rapper" know that FIRST he will acknowledge that he wants to be a rapper. Then he's going to drop $3,000 OUT OF THIN AIR on fucking computers, and speakers, and mics, headphones, and software, clothes, jewelry, and dumb shit like $250/hr studio recording time.

Then he's going to spend massive amounts of time writing/re-writing and wasting time on his "music". Then he's going to drag you along to his "recording sessions". You will be stuck in a state of perpetual sleep deprivation because at 3:45 a.m. he's going to be hit with INSPIRING LYRICS that he JUST HAS TO RECORD by playing loud ass music without giving a shit about who's sleeping for school or not. Then he's going to eventually quit his job or lose it because he's staying up late working on music, or releasing really ratchet and embarrassing videos singing about bitches and shit on youtube, or he didn't have a successful career to begin with and is doing even less to find a job.

Once he "records" his ""Music"" and releases it on soundcloud, youtube, facebook, etc. etc. The FIRST thing he's going to expect (read: pressure) you to do is go watch/like/listen to the stupid song(s). Next, he's going to email it to EVERYONE YOU'VE EVER MET. EVERY SINGLE FACEBOOK, LINKED-IN, AND PHONE CONTACT is going to get spammed with his "music". He will send pussy-popping "music" to your church congregation, the choir, the fucking pope, your godparents, and the ghost of your fucking ancestors. You will go to sleep and the ghosts of your ancestors will visit you to laugh at the embarrassment and tell you never to do that shit again. Your colleagues will slowly begin to distance themselves from you. People will slowly begin to avoid you because it's embarrassing. ESPECIALLY if ya'll are older than 25. YES.

Of COURSE he's going to pick a rapper name like "Pu$$Y_Killa_T-Rex69" or "xxxCUMSHOT_STEVE$$$" or "Porn_Director_Mike" or "Top_Gunna_$69$$$" "Fuck_tha_PooLeeCe$$$6969$$$" and YES, he's going to email that shit to your law school professors, your academic advisers, the people who you're going to defend your thesis in front of, your classmates, and your research associates. You will leave him for many other reasons, but one of them WILL BE the embarrassment of having a 35 year old man named "bean_Flicker_6969XXX$$$$$" emailing your fucking coworkers to like his soundcloud page as he blows $3,000 recording music that ends up getting like 61 likes on Youtube (mostly from his cousins, friends, grandma, and your 17 youtube alts). YOUR BEST FRIEND WILL END UP BECOMING AN FDS STRATEGY COACH AND OVER-EXPLAINING THIS TYPE OF MAN ON REDDIT, WHILE WARNING WOMEN TO BRACE THEMSELVES FOR HEARTACHE AND EMBARRASSMENT. It ain't even worth it, sis. Unless you want to become the next Missy Elliott... AS SOON AS YOU HEAR THE WORDS "I WANNA BE A RAPPER" BEGIN TO EXIT THE SITUATION AS FAST AS POSSIBLE BEFORE HE EMAILS THAT SHIT TO YOUR MOM and you gotta explain why a man who sings about eating ass, killing people, and drug dealing is "husband material".

Pick your poison. once you hear those words "I wanna be a rapper" or "I wanna do music". It's only a matter of time before you've had enough and leave. For your own sanity. There ARE some exceptions. Some women are obsessed with music.

When I say "rapper", I mean men who call themselves any of the following:

- Rapper

- Artist

- Lyricist

- Musician

- Poet

- Creative Muse

- Emcee

- DJ

- Beat man, Hype man, Music writer, etc.

They'll come up with the most creative words to describe it but these words "I want to be a rapper" or "I'm thinking of doing music" are THE KISS OF DEATH in a relationship, more often than not.
