100 years ago - when women weren't allowed to vote for their government, weren't allowed to work without their male relatives or husbands permission, didn't have a say about the money they earned as they couldn't own anything, couldn't inherit, couldn't rent real estate, couldn't get abortions - not even after being raped, couldn't buy or use contraception when they were married without spousal permission when marital rape wasn't a crime and divorces weren't possible for women - you know, the good old times.

When women were RUINED if their reputation so much as had a whiff of premarital sex or any other bonkers religious, social, or plain misogynistic ideas of how they should conduct themselves to prove their virtue and wouldn't live up to that.

If you had a child without being married - you most likely would die. Just DIE. Like LITERALLY DIE. Because you couldn't work, couldn't rent, you'd be hoeing in the streets, getting syphilis or freeze to death in the winter or simply starve. Because good, "Christian" (or other religious ideals), acceptable members of society would be repulsed by the idea of you getting ANY help AT ALL, getting blankets or rent or food stamps or child care or work or ANYTHING. Because you committed a SIN. A sin against society. Against norm, against virtue, against your soul.

You would have been LUCKY to be taken in by relatives, living off their good graces, knowing they eat less because you exist and that you are unredeemable.

100 years later - Women are allowed to vote. Can inherit. Can own, work, get an education, have access to contraception, abortions, the possibilities to report crimes committed against them. There are women doctors, women business owners, women judges, women lawyers. And behold! Some of them are even single parenting one or more children.

So after everything the women before us have literally died for, have made possible for us, after giving us a CHANCE OF SURVIVAL without life being stacked so badly against us that death was an honorable excuse:

Edit: Thank you for the gold. I just realized, while editing some words in the comment, that we will never be free as a women-folk, as long as the pickme's rule. Because the blame may have shifted, as have the expectations. But whether it's the woman that had the affair with a married man who has to care for the child and gets chastised by society for having sex, or whether its the woman who gets told to stay with her man after he impregnated another women - in both cases it's a women who has to bear the weight. A women who has to make ends meet and struggle harder to survive because of a mans actions. I truly feel pitiful for pickmeishas now. Because as long as women fall victim to men like in the meme, our mission is not done.

The problem with these women is that they will have genuinely good intentions, but they expect to be rewarded for the "kindness" they give to undeserving people. Back in my pick-me days, I would dream of meeting a terrible man to who I can be "good" so he would like me and change. A form of approval-seeking behavior.

Some people want to be the "main chick" so bad. Even feeling flattered that he "went back" to them after cheating. Sickness.
