If you're in an abusive relationship or don't want your partner to hear you, unplug it. It records everything so he can just log in a listen to you talk. Terrifying.

Nest and Ring can be hacked and used against you.

Be very careful what technology is in your home if you're unsure about your safety/privacy

My previous phone had an app that took a picture whenever I made a mistake in my unlock code. One day I was looking through my gallery and saw a whole album with the app’s name full of my ex’s face. All of them were taken when he had brought my phone to the other room and plug it in to charge. They were all taken at such a terrible angle (him leaning over the phone) that I literally thought “damn he’s so ugly here, look at that fat face, the triple chin and his snarky eyes”

And then proceeded to be with him for another couple of years 🤡🤡🤡

Cover your computer/phone cameras with stickers, they can be hacked easily, there's whole websites where people pay to creep on hacked cameras. I've seen more and more stories of this happening, since zoom took off.

Use a VPN (Protonvpn) or a browser with a VPN built in (Brave browser) so creeps can't get your location.

Use double encrypted emails, like protonmail so you're not hacked.

For online, it'd be best if you don't post any pics of your face, or make it so only your female friends can see your pics. Deepfakes and sites dedicated to sharing nudes/swimsuit pics are increasing.

Not about creeps, but: Don't use period or fitness tracking apps, they sell that data to companies, say bye to insurance or being able to rent somewhere nice if you're not 100% healthy.

Yep. This is why I have fingerprint passcodes & 2 step verification set up for all my devices (also helps with the padawans that quickly figure out touchscreens lol). l. HiddenEye on my android and pin numbers set up for my personal computers.

My passwords always include random item numbers I remember from when I worked retail as a broke college student.

It's just more projection by these scrotes. "I'm hiding shit on my phone so she has to have something on hers that I can use against her!"

Have a guest password set up on your home network, and give him that one; do not give strangers access to your home wifi network. He could install malware, etc via his password access.

He can find the password to your home network because it is printed on the side of the router, so be sure and change it when you get a chance.

My dads in IT and would monitor me and my sibling’s internet history. I remember him and my step mum outright telling us once they’d monitor what were up to online to make sure we’re “safe”.

He’d also drop subtle references to things I’d googled/ sites I’d been on in conversation and it creeped me the fuck out.

It left me with trust issues and paranoia that I’ve never really healed from or gotten over. Not to mention that when I told my mum she just wouldn’t believe me. And nobody thought my choice to cut contact with my dad was justified because of this...

But anyway... yeah it’s low value behaviour all around. Stay clear of the techies.

Most hacks aren't a dude in a hoody in a dark room, it's human-hacking (tricking) or human error.

Keep people at arms length until they have proven to be trustworthy.

Strangers get nothing. No, the dude at a pop up stand at the mall doesn't need your name, number, email, home address before you can purchase whatever he's peddling.

Acquaintances get your throw-away email if you're sure you want to hear what they have to say.

Co-workers don't need shit. They can contact you at work, over your work email, during work hours. They are not your friends.

Men you match with on dating apps can contact you through the app until they have taken you on a decent date and you have agreed to see them for another date, in which case it's up to you, phone number or google number or throw-away email. Keep them matched for several dates / screenshot their profile so you can report them if it goes bad.

Friends (people you've known and been in regular contact with for more than 3 months) get your phone number if you get theirs and you know their full name.

GOOD friends get your social media. Stop giving strangers your insta/twitter/facebook/linked-in/primary email holy shit guys.

And yeah. Thumbprint your phone. Don't let men sleep over or touch your shit.

Stop syncing important things. eg Firefox with your bookmarks, passwords and logins across all your devices. Bank apps are convenient, but if someone gets your unlocked phone, RIP. I type my username and password in and tell it not to remember, every time.

Check your privacy settings. Discord just asked for access to my contact list wtf. Siri is accessing everything to "learn", I just turned all that shit off. Microphones, off. Access to camera roll, off.

Use different usernames across social media platforms (unless it's for legit work where you're earning money).

Use different emails for different spheres. eg one for all work related things. One for 'legal name' eg doctor, dentist, DMV, IRS, power bills (basically whoever you'd have to update if you moved house). One for close friends and family, and your throw-away for 1 off purchases and strangers.

Yeah, I am as low tech as possible. People have tried to give us smart TVs and were so puzzled when we said no thanks. We want to go even more low tech eventually - plus, anything that lowers the demand for rare earth minerals is good, due to the slavery and bloodshed that the demand causes.

Just a follow on from the comment about Google home, your phone does it also of you have the Google Voice (or whatever it's called).

You can log into your Google settings and listen to the recordings it's made of you. I turned off all the permissions after finding that out.

Passwords should be 8+ characters long with at least one number, special character and capital letter. This makes them virtually unhackable short of a key logger or phishing attempt at something.

2FA on everything you can

No “smart” devices in the house, especially door locks or security cameras (I know they’re handy but they’re super vulnerable if you happen to piss off a tech savvy asshole)

Don’t click on random links or any random emails that ask you to “confirm” a password. Like 85% of “hacks” are actually human error giving info away

You can get an app that takes a picture when there’s a failed passcode attempt on your phone.

If you have a fingerprint/face ID phone/tablet, I’d check and make sure no one added their finger/face after using it (if you let him borrow it for a phone call or something)

Encrypt backups if you have an iPhone backed up to a computer.

Keep NOTHING private (sexy pics… whatever) on the cloud. If for whatever reason you want to have that, local backups on flash drives that no one knows the location to. Cloud hacks are frighteningly common and Bezos could give two shits if your homemade porn is part of what leaks.

Install a snooping/privacy program onto your own phone along with a good program that will scan for malware you didn't install intentionally 😉

This will secretly take pics of anyone who tries to unlock your device and some will do a key log so in case he does get in you can see wtf he's looking for.

Also - get a backup Facebook account! Open them NOW so there's a history. Just add yourself as a friend. And set up all the 2 factor authentication crap and trusted contacts. It sucks losing your Facebook, I imagine worse by some obsessed scrote who guessed your password as your dog's name plus your birth year lol

There is never any reason for them to hold your phone, even homeless people have one nowdays.

For very new interests:

Use a really shortened and nondescript form of your name and a burner phone number.

Do not tell them where you work/study (and especially not where you live). Your exact company or university is of zero interest to HVM, they just want to know what you're passionate about.

Don't let them walk you to your car, they should not know your license plate.

If they refuse to comply with any of the above, dump on the spot.
