I volunteered as a counselor at a rape crisis center. I had to go to the hospital to meet with victims (at their request) before or after they completed a rape kit to talk to them and provide after care resources. One woman was kidnapped at a gas pump with her child in the car, taken out to a field and raped while her child looked on and then a police car drive up on the scene and stopped it. The guy tried to run but was caught. The victim had been at the county hospital all night and was terrified of telling her husband. She asked me if I would tell him or ask the police officer to tell him. The police officer refused saying that the woman wasn’t raped, it was consensual, though the kid was freaking out and the woman was crying and the guy tried to run. The reason she wasn’t believed? She had been dressed nicely with nice hair and a manicure. Therefore, she must have arranged to meet this man in a field (!!!) to have sex (with her kid in the car) and only cried rape when the cops showed up so her husband wouldn’t find out she was having an affair. 😳

This is why I didn't report my rape. I just assumed no one would believe me bc it was date rape/he said/she said.

I didn't even consider it, just assumed there was no way it would benefit me or other women.

I was really frustrated with the media coverage of Carey Mulligan's response to the douchey Variety reviewer who implied that Mulligan wasn't hot enough for the role in Primising Young Woman.

I don't know whether Mulligan or writer-director Emerald Fennell reacted directly to the myth being echoed by the Variety douche that all rape victims are necessarily super young and conventionally beautiful. I think the actress and director were obviously caught off guard by the reviewer's weirdly retrograde attack and both women said some intelligent things in reaction about H'wood double standards for appearance, etc., though were not quoted specifically mentioning that particular rape myth. Still I think the media coverage of that scandal might have mentioned that elderly women and elderly men can and frequently have been sexually assaulted. Sexual assault rates are 7 to 15 fold higher for individuals with cognitive disabilities. Sex traffickers prefer hearing impaired targets. Rape/sexual exploitation is so often about opportunity and reduced risk of consequences.

I thought that latter point was covered well in the film when Mulligan's character (spoiler) suddenly drops the drunk act and menacingly says (paraphrase) to the terrified would-be rapist, "Aw, so now you don't want to fuck me?"

Some rapists prefer a challenging victim who fights back. But most are opportunistic cowards. In the book What Police Know, one cop describes certain rapists as "try-sexuals," meaning they'll try anything. For instance, a lot of men who rape little boys aren't even gay. To quote Shawshank Redemption, to be gay "they'd have to be human first."

My first husband was a police detective and told me most women make it up, this was the mindset and victim blaming of most of his colleagues at the time, which was around 2004, what hope do they have coming forward to misogynists like this in the police. I was 19 when I met him and he was a 29 year old police officer. He makes me feel sick.

This is why so many people (namely women, though I do not wish to discount men who have also been victims of rape) refuse to come forward. It’s why men are the only ones who ever question that fact, as women know full well the weight that coming forward can carry on their own lives.

When I was 15 I had to go to court for skipping school too much. The reason I was skipping? There was a boy who kept slapping my ass, grabbing my breasts, saying disgusting things to me, etc. I started skipping school because one day he pinned my against a wall behind the bleachers in the gym and started sexually assaulting me. So now I'm in the courtroom with my parents. I was a VERY shy teen and didn't tell anyone what he'd been doing to me. This is also when my anxiety disorder began. I explain to the judge why I've been skipping in front of my parents while trying to not burst into tears of shame and embarrassment. This bitch judge said to me verbatim "Well, you're a pretty girl. What did you expect a teenage boy to do?" Then I got slapping with 6 months probation for skipping. I went to our school's principal the next school day to tell him about this boy and that now I'm on probation because of his actions and to make sure he doesn't do this to another girl. Principal said "If he does it again just ignore him."

I had a conversation with an idiot (to put it lightly) that I thought was a decent male friend. We were having a conversation about men hitting women; and he proceeds to respond with "well if women hit men -- no one would say anything."

I did report my rape... I got the "you wanted it and the you were askind for it" response and my case was dropped. Lol. Thanks for the PTSD :/ it's okay though I've grown from it and am 10 times stronger now

Yeah it does especially if you were coerced into sex like I was. Many people don't even find this rape at all because sometimes you can agree to it and your body doesn't agree to it. It's a conflicting thing and I was pushed, pressured, nagged, coerced into sex many of times even when I said no many times he wanted me to say yes even when I didn't want to but I figured if he left me alone then he would stop: he didn't whatsoever he continued to guilt me into sex and because of his blue balls he was tired of masturbating. He felt so entitled to sex it was ridiculous.
