Women also make false accusations to avoid responsibility (ie if they are caught cheating or get pregnant), for revenge (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned), for fame and clout (given the internet), for money (since they can then crowdfund off of it), because they were misled (some feminist convinced them that they were raped when it was just regret after consensual sex), or for political reasons (activism), etc.

This is something that needs a professional study doing on it. The problem of course is that none of the "professionals" want to do a study on it, as most likely their findings would contradict the current narrative. 2-8% is laughably low compared to the anecdotal views of police officers, which range up to and over 50%.
Remember, a false accusation is just that, an accusation made. It doesn't have to be in a court of law, it can be on social media, or to some form of law enforcement, police/FBI etc, or just made in public. I suspect feminists have culled a lot of those out of their data, and just concentrate on the ones proven in a court of law, leading to the 8% number. This is the same as claiming the only rapes that occur are ones proven in a court of law, something feminists would argue about most intensely.

I’d imagine some false accusations are to gain leverage over victims of rape as well. For example, a woman who raped a man says that the man raped her, or vice versa. It’s a way to beat the victim to the chase. I’ve seen this quite often in recent times.

A lot of things, but revenge, fame, money, and lack of responsibility are the biggies. Plus a lot of feminists misuse the word "rape". They'll deny that men can be forced to penetrate, but then say regretful sex or drunk sex is rape. Someone taking advantage of someone who's blackout drunk or using coercion is definitely classified as rape in my book, but you can't be a bit tipsy, have sex with someone, and cry rape because you regret it.

Insurance or governments can pay compensation with just an accusation, so Financial motives.

Narcissist motives as in attention from media, community ; similarly to Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (poisoning baby for attention) which is only done by mothers.

I don't think miscommunication plays much of a role tbh. Usually the excuse is loosely that 'women cant stick up for themselves', meaning men have to spell it out, "Can I have sex with you?" "Would you like my to do x, y and z". I even joke to my girlfriend occasionally and ask for explicit consent and she utterly hates it. Its something that is supposed to happen naturally and not need forms, documents and formal language to navigate.

However I think everybody has met at least one woman in their life who would or has falsely accused someone of rape maliciously in order to destroy their reputation and no penalty to their own social standing. I've met more than one woman who's introduced themselves as "a rape victim". I know woman who have had friends who have told them they have lied in order to ruin an ex's life. This really isn't uncommon or surprising. Men and women have their own strengths and powers and bad women use specific methods of harming others that they know they can get away with that are distinct from men.

Watch any police interrogation involving a female suspect and compare them to male suspects. Female suspects usually use different tactics in both their violence and their manipulation. When it comes to rape allegations, it's something that is considered almost on par with murder yet you as the victim have little proof to offer whilst society has every reason to want to believe you - it's perfect and easy for awful people to take advantage

I think false accusations occur because of miscommunication between the couple.

I would estimate "miscommunication" makes up less than 10% of false accusations. Why? I think that most people involved would feel one of these things:

I should have said something

I should have been clearer

This case will fall apart

They aren't even a bad person it was a misunderstanding, really.

As someone who has been raped and said no over one hundred times I can safely say even I wouldn't take it further. Maybe that's because I am male and she was female. My point is: If the people involved were decent people - and it really was miscommunication - how bad is it?

Clearly "rape" and all its connotations have become too wide in their use. Even I pervert its meaning to some by calling what happened to me rape as under British law, like many, what happened to me is merely sexual assault.

I read somewhere online how women sometimes feel guilty after a casual sex encounter, and if especially there's been alcohol involved, may literally recharacterize it in their mind as their consent wasn't truly given and thus it was more of a sexual assault than a consensual moment. It's a part of how memory can be faulty sometimes.

In that sense, it's not even a false accusation. It's their memory and bias distorting things so they truly believe there was more coercion involved.

I've tried finding it again but with no luck.

I can really relate to this, but my experience with Title IX is really complicated. It was basically a substitute for a formal disciplinary hearing but that was even more tenuous than what I supposedly did sexually (which I didn’t even do).

So in my case the false accusations had enough to be proven tenuous as they were because I made threats (they may have sounded that way but I didn’t mean it as a threat) and it was a way to get rid of me since I didn’t exactly do anything to anyone else in regard with the supposed threats

It's worth asking why people can't just ask "hey, you wanna fuck?" There would be far fewer misunderstandings if they did. Why do people instead feel the need to be all wink wink nudge nudge with their euphemisms and ambiguous body language? Personally, I think it's ultimately an underlying sexual conservatism, which makes people terrified of transgressing the social prohibition of being too upfront and being seen as "creepy."

Consider, for instance, the tea analogy for sexual consent that's promoted by some. "Consent is as simple as tea!" they say. Except, no, if I'm asking you for a cup of tea, I'm going to be very explicit. "May I have a cup of tea?" I'm not going to be all wink wink nudge nudge with you. The societies we live in do not consider tea and sex to be even remotely comparable things You can freely ask for the former without social offence, but the same can't be said about the latter. You might even get in legal trouble, especially if it's done uncouthly.

There is no data to evidence how many accusations are false, or how much rape is under-reported.

There are definitely estimates. The FBI puts it at about 8%. Most place it somewhere between 2-10 percent.

But regardless, we also do have research on the people most likely to make false rape accusations.

For one, many false rape accusations are reported by someone other than the victim. This is more common in teenagers, who get pregnant young or or even were late for a curfew. The parent is the one who then takes the report to the police, who eventually establish that the teen was just lying to avoid trouble.

Two different studies have found that almost half of all false rape complaints are lodged by someone other than the alleged victim, usually a parent.

Another reason people in the British Home Office Study (the largest study on reported false rape accusations), people often lied in order to access mental healthcare services. By going to a clinic and reporting they had been recently raped, they are able to get a bed.

6 of the 55 reports classified as false by a police department in one year fit this description.

False Rape Accusations

The two above groups are uninterested in pursuing the accusation once the lie has served its purpose. Their parents think they didn't willingly get home late/have sex/get pregnant or they get committed into the mental health facility. Many of them never name a specific suspect.

There are people of course, who do want to pursue criminal charges. However, among that demographic a pattern frequently emerges. The most infamous example is that of the Stanford Rape accusation published in Rolling Stone Magazine.

These people often have an established history of bizarre fabrications and lies. They frequently tend to embellish and tell the most dramatic story possible. Not only were they raped but they were gang raped. Not only were they gang-raped but it was upon a bed of glass. The accusations are often dramatic and violent and are oftentimes the result of severe mental illness and a desire for sympathy or attention. There are a number of established motivations for false accusations:

Most salient motives were consistent with the list of Kanin: alibi, attention, and revenge. Other motives for filing a false allegation were sympathy, regret, relabeling, and mental disturbance.

What's also interesting is that in the British Home Office study, only on false accuser (a man) who was motivated by revenge, was upset about a previous sexual relationship with the accused. Examples included a woman who falsely accused the man she thought had stolen her husband's truck, a woman who was mad that her gynecologist refused to serve as an expert witness in her lawsuit and a woman who accused her drug dealer because she felt he stiffed her on the quantity.

It's actually not very common that the people making "revenge" based accusations are accusing someone they had sex with, or almost had sex with. That is more common in "alibi" and "regret" motivations.

As for Aziz Ansari:

She should have left the house a lot sooner than she did, and instead of capitulating to oral, she should have held firm, asserted herself and called the car. That said, she capitulated because he continued to pester her for quite a significant amount of time even when she both verbally told him she didn't want to have sex and physically got up to move away from him. 30 minutes of trying to shove your hands down someone's pants while they keep moving away is ridiculous, as is forcing a kiss on someone obviously turning away from you and upset. He was being the definition of a sex pest at that point. And she really didn't accuse him of rape.

Whether Ansari didn’t notice Grace’s reticence or knowingly ignored it is impossible for her to say. “I know I was physically giving off cues that I wasn’t interested. I don’t think that was noticed at all, or if it was, it was ignored.”

False accusations of rape are caused by reasons similar to false accusations of any other crime. Sadly, with such a touchy subject, the handling is very different. Additionally, you may be surprised to know that the FBI estimate that false accusations happen at about the same rate, between 4 and 10%, let's say 6%. This is comparable to other crimes.

There's quite a lot, actually, it's just that not all of it is as valid as some others e.g. the 2% figure was pulled out of thin air by a Feminist in order to downplay the issue, while the 8% comes from the FBI.

Another problem is that they all seem to have their own definition of what they're talking about so it's hard to get any decent picture e.g.

Verbal consent simply doesn’t always work. I once asked a woman: shall we kiss?, and she answered: sorry, I can’t do it that way, if you’d just started I’d probably gone along. Meaning more than just that; ie in the circles in which she moved explicit consent was a strange thing.

Women who false accuse should be forced to suffer the same penalties the man would have suffered if he had been convicted. If the man dies as a result of suicide or mob justice from the damage done to his reputation, up that charge to manslaughter, at the very least. And we need sweeping reform in how these cases are handled, so the man isn't reported to the media until he is actually proven guilty (to avoid the reputation damage).

I won't weigh in on how many do it maliciously or not, but I also just wanted to say that I agree on the whole "asking for consent" thing. It doesn't ruin the moment as some say or anything.

Another point I'd like to add is regarding delayed accusations. People may have a night that they regret with someone, that makes them feel icky or ashamed. As time passes, cognitive dissonance can lead people to rescript details of their memories to diminish their locus of control and agency in such experiences. It is easier to integrate something bad that happened to you than something bad that you did. I know of several cases like this, where friends of mine were telling me about how shameful they felt regarding some sexual encounter, then next we discuss it they've totally absolved themselves of responsibility and the other party is now a perp.

I think it is pretty malicious for the most part, in that they force responsibility for their own actions onto the man. Been there, but only after I refused to continue to support a cheater. Evolutionarily, and I say this with a heavy chest, I think women have had to switch men due to one being physically stronger and have biologically adjusted to that. It’s harder for a man to switch because we are hardwired to protect whereas women are hardwired to flee. Obviously this is not 100% true or accurate, but it is my experience. When they don’t get what they want from you, they will attack you however they can. Not just with accusations, but with threats. This is the “bad woman” take, the “bad man” take is generally physical violence. Just my opinion. I hope everyone is having a safe and lovely life, no one should go through the bullshit that is someone forcing their own bullshit onto you.

I think another problem is that on feminist social media, they use examples of wealthy, powerful people who have a great amount of evidence against them such as Donald Trump when the people who worry about false allegations almost always 1. do not and will not rape a person and 2. don't have the power or connections to cover it up if they did decide to do anything or get accused. Another issue is they act like worrying about false accusations are meant to downplay the actual victims when it isn't. The reason people worry about false accusations are because a rape/SA victim is very mentally damaged by the experience. It's hard to argue against someone who's saying you're a rapist. Rape victims and victims of false allegations aren't comparable; it's like saying "your family dying isn't that bad because i broke my leg". People need to stop comparing totally different subjects

I've had a false accusations and I am not fully sure why myself. From my experience the girl always saw things in a weird negative light. I remember she used to get mad about touching her waist or but while holding hands thinking I was doing it on purpose. Obviously the back of my hand was closer to those areas while holding hands and I am clumsy. I also can't feel well through the back of my hand to notice. She really insisted on this, I wish I would have seen this red flag.

She also accused an incredible amount of men of inappropriate touching. At the time I took these seriously but they were probably more of the same thing with me, those men probably bumped into her in a dense crowd and didn't notice anything inappropriate. She accused one of my friends of sexual assault or rape after we split and everyone confronted him aggressively. It took her turning on me for me to realize with horror that it was all lies and that she had just convinced us to cause an incredible amount of damage to a friend. I told everyone who had contact with her and me what happened. I hope he's doing alright. No one confronted me on it, no one has even bothered to tell me what she said. I think this is because of the collective realization that something wasn't right.

In my case I think it could have been a few things. Like I said, she always saw things in a weird sexual assault type way when in reality it was just people existing around her. She was also abusive and assaulted me a few times in anger. Another factor was her social circle. There was another mutual friend we knew who just accused everyone who she ever dated of SA or rape as soon as the relationship ended. I think this with the fact that I escalated after she told me and I told everyone made it difficult for her to change her story. I probably shouldn't have done that but I was so extremely mad that she convinced me to attack and harm a close friend.

I did ask our mutual friend who was constantly accusing other men why she had accused me, and she responded most men don't try to remain friends with their ex. This is definitely something I noticed about her. Even though I am not with my other ex's, I still care a lot for them. I loved some of them once and I hope they're having a good life. I also wouldn't mind being any of their friends if the opportunity presented itself, strictly platonically. My accuser doesn't seem like that. She's gone out of her way to make my life as difficult as possible to a comedic degree. She's screamed at my family in public, tried to seduce my other relatives, tried to drive a wedge in any relationship I get it. It's comedic because she's not subtle and I notice/ warn my family and partners around her. She's still around sometimes because we share mutual friends.

I can speak first hand. My ex made serious false accusations that put me in jail. Luckily for me she got caught. But they didn't punish her, they just dropped some of my charges.

Why did she do it

Some people say to get full custody, and maximum child support.

Some say it was revenge against someone in my circle( her sister) who took my side after she exposed my exes cheating. Narcissists will not always target their enemy, but innocent people that their enemy cares about.

But from what I saw, I don't think it was about the money. I don't think it was too get back at someone else.

I think it was because my ex made a decision to end our relationship. And I think she thought the guy who she jumped to was going to bring her to an all new level. I think she felt that it's easier to jump to someone successful then to build success with someone.

My ex saw me surpassing her , and out off anger, jealousy, and complete bitterness. She saw the big red button that can knock down their ex, and she ran as fast as she could to push it.

In her mind, our breakup became a competition of who can do better. There was no way she was going to be labeled the sore loser
