Believe me, it's pretty hard to be fooled by menslib. Aside from the fact that they're explicitly feminist and therefore endorse patriarchy theory, I always get this element of...I don't know, self-loathing? I used to carry a lot of shame for being a man, and the way they talk about men and masculinity reminds me of my thought processes where I would devalue men and put women on a pedestal.

Besides, their level of censorship is infuriating. I've seen comments where inoffensive, perfectly reasonable comments are removed for challenging the narrative. Also, like many feminist forums, they decry traditional gender roles until it's actually time for a man to be freed from them.

Not every post is problematic, but overall that sub is a shitshow.

First thing I did was ask them if I could post advocacy for raped boys. They refused and I was banned.

They support the silencing of raped boys.

Their actions are detestable.

Not if they're dogmatic about the feminist lens they don when examining men's issues.

Nothing productive comes of the method. Worse, it only serves to make you feel left out as a man.

One of the biggest differences between MensLib and MensRights is just the attitudes of the posters.

On MensRights, the prevailing attitude is "Yes, things are shit, but this is what we can do about it. This is what we need to do about it."

On MensLib, the prevailing attitude is "Yes, things are shit, but that's because men are shit and we need to change ourselves in order to fix the issues."

When you take a serious look at any of men's issues, you realize they are societal, and they are not from some bullshit like toxic masculinity. Socially and legally, men are pushed down and then denied access to systems that save people in their position. Men don't need to hear that it's OK to cry and men don't need to feel bad about themselves and the behavior of other men. What men need is a coordinated effort to increase resources available for men and undo the burdens the law places on us.

This takes time, money, and legislation. Truly fixing men's problems would require an exorbitant amount in legal fees, suing states and the federal government. It would require de-segregating shelters, or making an appropriate number of shelters for men in need. It would take an entire overhaul of the criminal justice and family court systems, in addition to abolishing the draft. It would take widescale education programs for teachers to learn how to handle boy students, and a complete and total restructuring of how we understand mental health for men and boys.

When you really take this into consideration, you start to see why feminists so often say toxic masculinity is the problem. Toxic masculinity is cheap--actually, for feminists, it's profitable. Teach men not to rape. Teach men to be better to women. Teach men to cry. Ever-so-coincidentally, they promote the most qualified people for this job as feminists.

What pisses me off the most about that sub is their perspective on men/boys sharing their emotions. Because no, men don't share their emotions much, and it's not because we weren't raised to, all children are very vocal about how they feel. Until they realize, based on others' responses, it's not worth it. So instead of "teach boys to share how they feel" it should be "teach people to value boys' feelings". They're literally blaming men for what they're doing to men...it's gaslighting at its finest.

I really like r/leftwingmaleadvocates. It dosent have the "image" that this sub has for some reason so it's more appealing to those who are super femanazi. I hate that this sub has a bad image to moderates tho it's really anoying.

... when you say feminism is women’s rights ... are you meaning that only in the sense of legal rights?

Are you seeing feminism and men’s rights as things that cannot exist together? Because that’s what it sounds like, and I feel like this post is illustrating the one-sided-ness of the men’s rights sub. I’ve seen some very deep discussions around issues men face on menslib, and have not yet noticed that kind of depth on mensrights. Maybe you are mistakenly thinking that a discussion must be angry and inflammatory to be deep?

I’ve also noticed that mensrights seems to often use the word “feminism” when it claims to mean “radical feminism”, but that does the disservice of making it seem like all feminists are necessarily ‘radical feminists’ instead of being open to the ways that allowing females to be more human also creates opportunities for men to reconsider what they want as humans rather than only adhering to a particular societally-expected role.

Mens lib discusses mens issues. This is a good thing. More discussion about men's issues is a huge step in the success of men's rights.

Mens lib also gets WAY less criticism for being anti-woman than this sub or MGTOW as those subs have a lot less moderation.

So no, they don't attack feminism. They don't paint false accusations as a modern day witch hunt that affects most men. And they dont outright deny toxic masculinity or a history of women being oppressed.

But that's exactly what mens rights needs. Wide spread acceptance of the areas men are disadvantaged without being lumped in with 'a voice for men' and other hate filled organizations.

If you really care about progressing mens rights, groups like mens lib is exactly what we need. A civil common ground that understands the plight women face and a medium to discuss the lesser known issues that men face.

But if you care more about making enemies with all feminists, how best to argue with them, pushing the idea that false accusations are as common as sex assault, and outright dismissing proven sociological concepts like the difference in income between men and women or toxic gender extremes, mens lib is not for you.

But mens lib, teamwork, and working WITH women is how progress is made. Infighting between organizations is how progress is halted.

So which is it? Do you want more enemies or more progress for mens rights? I know what I would choose.
