Been trying to find a bartending job in downtown Austin and keep being told that they "mainly hire female bartenders"...how is that not discrimination?

I'm seeing a ton of this stuff in terms of blaming men and masculinity, while few of those writers even seem aware of the number of men who shielded female bodies with their own bodies. How are those men so invisible to these folks?

Because everyone afraid to die. But men just don’t get afraid, they just died.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Everyone gets afraid, but men MUST be brave. Just like Ned Stark said, "the only time a man can be brave is when he is afraid", otherwise you're just reckless.

[–]TheLostCityofBermuda 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Won’t that cause PTSD? Like when you afraid, you pretend to be brave, and killed people. That’s why a lot of veteran is fucked.

Edit: it also make sad reality why people say soldier change after they been to war, because they are not really prepare for the mental load, but society ask them to fight and pretend everything is okay, because they were brave.

[–]Pelikahn 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Then we get tossed to the wayside and shamed for "having issues".

[–]TheLostCityofBermuda 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

“It’s not our fault you suffer from PTSD, and can’t get any job, it’s your free will to join us in war, if you don’t join us in war, you not a real citizen”

How are those men so invisible to these folks?

Because they were running away and hiding behind bodies of those men. Those poor womyn couldn't see and bear it all.

They are the real victims

Call me a white knight or a cuckservative or whatever, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

[–]NibblyPig 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem is biting the hand that feeds, or in this case, bashing the same group of people that literally sacrificed their lives to protect others.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Until they turn and call those same men Toxic.

[–]perplexedm 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course, there is nothing wrong with normal men. It is only when feminastism denigrates the environment, things start getting noted.

[–]loloLogic 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Akesgeroth 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Here's a truth which will get me a lot of hate:

Women tend to be way more passive than men. Men take action. Women remain passive. She mentions mental illness. Here's something interesting: When it comes to schizophrenia, paranoid schizos are overwhelmingly male and disorganized schizos are overwhelmingly female.

So, mentally ill men will do mass shootings for the same reason normal men are willing to shield their wives and children with their bodies. But do note the ratio of men doing mass shootings VS men shielding others with their bodies that night.

[–]Pelikahn 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Women just drown their hubands in debt then drown the kids in the tub.

[–]cloverboy77 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think you've absolutely nailed it. It would be incredibly odd if the gender that suffers the vastly disproportionate number of schizoid disorsers and are also empirically found to overwhelmingly occupy the far ends of the bell curve wasnt also the gender of the vast majority of psychotic violence.

But instead of these events being catalysts for better awareness and treatment for men suffering these horrible mental illnesses it's "duh menz are all bloodthirsry violent misogynistic rapists."

What's remarkable though is how statistically rare rare rare these events are. The hyperbole and rhetoric are simply pernicious slanderous propoganda lies.

[–]Drezzzire 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why is it that men are expected to sacrifice their lives to save their wives?

Why not the other way around?

Does that not say the mentality of how valuable our lives are compared to women's in society's eyes?

So much so that it was those men's natural inclination to do so.

But it wasn't the woman's natural inclination to take a bullet for her husband was it?

What's that say?

I'm all for saving loved ones. But why is it at the expense of men's lives?

Men are always the ones who are expected to give their life for women.

Fuck that

[–]ShutupPussy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is a red herring. She's not talking about the bravery of men, she's talking about their propensity for mass violence like this.

Of course not. That would make sense.

[–]JebberJabber 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

No, because that misrepresents the truth she wrote. Mass shootings (and serial killings) are an almost exclusively male thing.

That simple fact needs to be understood by everybody before we can start thinking about how to reduce their incidence, and it needs to be kept in mind at every step developing models and solutions.

If a theory or policy does not fit with the fact it is an almost exclusively male problem then that theory or policy is likely wrong.

Similarly any theory which does not explain why mass killing is so much more popular in the US than in other cultures is not dealing with reality. Other western democracies are not so saturated with guns but they are still available to motivated people.

The fact Muslim women are involved in mass killings in different cultures should ideally be incorporated into theories, but that can only be done by people who understand those cultures. I have no idea of how or if it is relevant to the US.
.
Mental illness is expressed differently in different genders and the reasons for that are not all biological, as is proved by the fact mental illness is expressed differently in different cultures. In the west it has been expressed differently at different points in history, again showing the societal influence. We need to understand what part US masculinity plays in cause mental illness to be expressed in mass killings.
When she writes "it is not about mental illness" she is not saying mental illness is not involved, she is saying there is something different about how men express it and we need to examine the social part of that and see if there is a way to reduce the problem.

That the overwhelming majority of men involved in these events are instinctively shielding women needs to be acknowledged and kept in mind since masculinity is under the spotlight here, but it should not be used to distract from the fact that women can obtain and use guns, but only men do mass killings.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, they usually just drown their own children in bath tubs instead. You missed my entire point.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

What point, that women do different horrible things? Yes, sure they do. But how is that relevant to the current discussion about the decisive influence of maleness in mass murders? It is either male biology or the male gender role or some combination thereof. Since we can't change biology it makes sense to examine the masculine gender role.

[–]McGauth925 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Think about what we see here, and especially over on MGTOW: Lots and lots of examples of guys who generalize to all women based on whats a minority, or a few, or even what ONE woman does, all to make women look bad. It's BS. Surprise, surprise, women do the same thing. More BS that serves only to polarize us all even more.

Actually, seeing all the crap that women have said about men, I enjoy it when men in the manosphere sling it back at women. But, at the same time, I know I'm indulging in BS. There has to be a another way, that actually makes things better than trading insults does.

[–]brokedown 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Are you outraged, or are you amused? I think that disctinction matters.

[–]McGauth925 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Not amused, not outraged. We've all seen it many times before.

What I like about MGTOW is that it tells men not to expect happiness with a woman. It points out that, in divorce, women are our greatest enemies, that far too many marriages end in divorce, and that women initiate most of them. As stark, as misogynistic as it sounds, men who ignore the statistical reality of that and marry anyway are deluding themselves. That insight alone makes MGTOW very valuable to the men who heed it.

Given that men really wouldn't like a lot of what MGTOW says about women, were it women saying the same sorts of things about men - I usually assume those are men who've been divorce raped, there really is a lot of misogyny in MGTOW. And some women use that to discredit the whole movement.

But, I'm amazed that so many of us hope divorce rape won't happen to us, that we won't be one of the 50% of men who lose their homes, their children, at least half of their wealth, and a major portion of their incomes. And, after 8 years, or so, how many of the couples who are still married would do it all over again? What percentage are happily married?

[–]brokedown 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe I should have added "disappointed" as a third option.

The whole MGTOW thing is fascinating in a relatively pure form. The level of disinformation thrown at the concept is pretty amazing as well.

I don't think it's misogyny to "not participate", or to only participate in things that are mutually beneficial, and avoiding constructs that are more adversarial.

Of course not everyone who identifies with that term is following it a pure form, which is how people end up confusing MGTOW with TRP or PUA folks.

With that said, finding a partner that is your ally rather than your adversary is a great thing. Someone you're stronger with than without.

[–]rFriedPidgey 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Number of women who falsely accuse men of rape > Number of male mass shooters

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We can't stop mass shootings by declaring that men are more likely to shoot people than women. Is she advocating that only men should have better access to mental health care and women shouldn't?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's because such women are too busy beating up their kids.

I don't necessarily agree with the text in the OP. However, I'm really interested in this dichotomy I see in the discourse on this board, where on one hand posters are VERY resistant to having any kind of meaningful discussions about the intersections of masculinity and mass shootings/ violence, whereas it seems to be encouraged to discuss the intersections of women and crime/violence. There's literally a mod-stickied post at the top right now that is simply a list of cases of women abusing children

I'm not sure what my point is, but I guess I wish I saw more actual discussions of the societal pressures and issues that cause men to statistically tend to be more violent (at least in terms of mass shootings) instead of this board just being a circle jerk to shit on women and feminism.

edit: thanks for gold! i'm not sure what that means but i appreciate it

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Women can have other people do their violence for them. They don't need to get their hands dirty.

If a man wants something and violence is necessary or expedient to achieve it, they have to do it themselves. Women can have other men do it for her, be it lovers, would-be lovers, or the state.

[+]cuauhtem0c 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Do you have examples of what you mean? Men/ the state doing violence on the behalf of women? Do you mean individual women?

I guess I can see your point when it comes to state violence (ie the military) but in terms of things like mass shootings I don't really see what you're trying to say.

And why are men more likely to agree(??) to enact violence on the behalf of women? What societal pressures encourage men to be more violent, solve problems with violence, or use it as a tool at the behest of women? (still not sure i necessarily agree about that though, men enacting violence at the behest of women, i wanna hear more about that)

[–]ISOanexplanation 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This woman, shaming a man in an effort to goad him into violence against other men is unique only in its blatant and open (and racist and sexist) nature. This happens all the time without the racial politics and public shouting.

https://youtu.be/sn463qwtIbA

Usually it's a woman telling her boyfriend that another man at the bar or wherever had said or done something disrespectful. "That guy gave me a really creepy look when I was walking back from the restroom," is all it takes. It doesn't even have to be true but the ensuing violence is as real as it gets. Shaming men for cowardice if they don't perform the desired violence is the oldest play in the book.

The female shaming of men is so effective that I believe we MRAs would be a much larger and more politically powerful group if feminists weren't so successfully able to shame anyone for supporting men's rights. "Male tears, manbaby, perma-virgin, neckbeard living in mom's basement etc."

Women complain all the time about slut being an unfair gendered slur because it only hurts when a woman is called that. I would argue that the word coward is an equally gendered slur because it only hurts a man to be called that. There is no societal expectation of female physical bravery just as there is no societal expectation of male chastity.

[–]ISOanexplanation 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, and some men would be very angry if you accused them of being slutty. I'm talking about a generality here.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do you have examples of what you mean? Men/ the state doing violence on the behalf of women? Do you mean individual women?

All various state benefits for women, paid for primarily-and on net-by men.

All state violence conducted by police, and enforced/justified through the criminal justice/family court systems, while men's due process rights are eroded.

And why are men more likely to agree(??) to enact violence on the behalf of women? What societal pressures encourage men to be more violent, solve problems with violence, or use it as a tool at the behest of women?

Because society favors the protection and provision of women over men, or apparently children.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There was no suggestion to discriminate on gender.

[–]n_surf 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The OP attributes violence with being a man.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

OP correctly points out that a very specific type of violence is almost exclusively performed by men. What is wrong with that? It is not "discriminating" on gender it is just facing the facts.

To answer your claim we do not do the same thing with race, we do. We collect statistics and face the facts on the racial makeup of various types of crime. In the US you can look it up in NCVS and in statistics for arrests and convictions. Other countries collect and present statistics by race too, it is a normal requirement used for a wide variety of purposes.

If you want to widen the types of violence considered to include spree killings, that is still exclusively male, or close to exclusive.
Serial killings are something like 12% or 15% by females from memory, and they have a very different pattern. Female serial killers kill their relatives and maybe workmates so they don't really fit with mass and spree killers. Male serial killers usually do though.

So if we are to address the problem of mass, spree and serial killers of the public, we are looking almost exclusively at men. If we try to develop non-gendered theories about those three types of killing we are departing from reality and missing an extremely prominent explanatory clue because being male is almost a prerequisite for forming one of those types of killer. Not just in the US, though the US is extraordinary in the number of shootings of all types. Very different cultures all over the world show the same pattern.

[–]ExpendableOne 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

If there is any reason why there are more men than women involved with shootings(though, to debunk her argument, there certainly has been women involved with mass shootings), it would probably boil down to competence and the general expectations that women place on men to be competent.

These mass shootings are not a problem of power+masculinity or men+violence but, rather, a problem of weapon of mass carnage+competence+crazy. There are definitely fewer women involved in shootings, not because there are fewer women who are crazy, but because women systematically expect men to do the fighting for them. Men don't just procure weapons or train in how to use them because that "just what men do", they do it because their safety is considered their own problem, and so is the safety of every women in their lives. They learn how to use weapons because, there's any kind of threat to them or women around them, they are expected to be able to handle it by any means necessary.

If women took their own safety and self-defence, and the defence of all their peers, as seriously as men are expected to, then you would see a lot more women procure weapons and learn how to use them effectively. It's pretty much the same reason why you don't really see a lot of women at the gym getting tougher and stronger. Same reason why the military isn't full of women who want to be soldiers, trained to shoot and kill. No one expects them to be competent in a moment of crisis or emergency, because they are the protected class and men are the fodder that are meant to die for them and because most women just do not want the risk or responsibility of being a fighter/soldier.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All true, except it is the US masculine role which leads a significant fraction of men in the US (not in other western countries) to obtain and become proficient with firearms.

In NZ a person saying they wanted a gun to defend themselves or family would be seen as a possibly dangerous loony by most people, and if that comment were relayed to police it might be grounds to deny or withdraw his gun licence. I recall self-protection was specifically excluded as a reason for obtaining a firearms license when I did it many years ago.

The quote is saying since men express their mental illness differently to women we need to consider exactly how the masculine social role is involved in that. Biology is also involved but we can't change that.

About 80% of suicides in the US are men and about 60% of gun deaths in the US are suicides. A large amount of mass shooting end up with the shooter ending their own life. Somehow nobody sees any connection.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

According to feminists mass shootings aren't such a big problem going by their former statements about how rape is much worse than murder since there's no murder victim's ruined life to speak of. If the feminists were consistent they'd be ranting about how a mass raping would be and is much worse than a mass shooting.

Suddenly though it's a problem and murder is pretty bad. Almost as if they forgot all about rape?

This woman can't deal with the fact that there might be something she shares with this man; mental illness. So she needs to remove the association and other him.

Wpuld a mass rape be a reverse gangrape?

Maybe not mass shooter but mass murderers? Sure! Female mass murderers

You're right, they don't shoot random strangers. The theme I've seen is they drowned their children in the bath water. It happens so often it doesn't even get press anymore. Morale of the story, you're stupid because mental health issues manifest in different ways.

She is fundamentally right, men commit more acts of violence because they are male. It's simply a fact men are more violent and we know testosterone and aggression are linked.

Based on what I've read from neuroendocrinologist Robert Sapolsky, testosterone does not directly cause aggression, but rather it motivates status-maintaining behavior.

No they don't. They don't do a mass shooting and go 'oh it's because I'm male'. They did it because they are mentally ill. Maybe the outlet for the mentally ill in males is extreme violence, but it's the mentally ill part that is causing the violence, not the being male part.

[+]kennat91 -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

you just said it's a combination of being male and mentally ill and then said it's only the mentally ill part, contradicting yourself

im simply pointing out that most violent people tend to be men because of male biology, MRA's should not do what feminists do and deny reality to suit them

i'm not denying men do the dirty and dangerous jobs or that feminists aren't massive hypocrites. I'm saying don't deny a truth like male violence or put it all down to the vague term "mental illness" because your worried it makes men look bad if we simply state men a prone to being more violent. The males in most spices are the tough ones who have to be violent and territorial for the survival of it's offspring. Evolution equipped us that way.

[–]NibblyPig 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Nobody is denying reality, the original tweet literally says mental illness is not the reason that men do mass shootings. When it clearly is. Instead it says because men are all predisposed to do mass shootings because we're all violent.

But we're not all violent, we're not all just ticking time bombs for doing a mass shooting, and for the mentally ill, they're not all down the shops stocking up on ammunition for their killing spree.

To suggest that it's just because we're men is silly.

What MRAs and in fact any male should not do is start believing that they're intrinsically bad people because they're men. We shouldn't teach our sons that they are bad people because they're male.

[+]kennat91 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

we are going in circles but ill say again, women suffer mental illness just as much as men do but don't commit these acts of violence. The only changed variable is gender. That's because men are biologically predisposed to be more aggressive and violent, ever seen a prison of violent offenders?

Whether you think that's the way things should be has nothing to do with how reality actually is. Denying individual and group differences because you don't like how it might make your son feel is stupid. Reality is not decided on emotions. I support MRA objectives but I don't see how it's good to pretend men and women are equal in every sense.

[–]NibblyPig 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're going in circles because you're missing the point. I can't really explain it any more clearly. I'm not denying that males are more aggressive and predisposed to commit violent acts, just that when an individual does commit an act, it's not because they're male, and it's not because they're predisposed to commit violent acts.

If it was, why haven't I gone on a rampage yet? I'm a male, and apparently us males are violent killers. Could it be that there's another factor other than simply being born a male? Like say, mental illness? Could that be the trigger that sends me over the edge, rather than just being a male human being? Logic says yes, but the tweet here says no, it's because I'm male and we're just naturally evil and do horrible things for no reason other than being male.

[–]ISOanexplanation 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're generalizing mental illness but there are actually a wide range of conditions under that umbrella and some of them are very gendered.

[–]LordCharidarn 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Men may commit more mass shootings, but women are far more likely to commit infanticide.

I'm going to say that the desire to murder other humans is most likely correlated highest with mental illness, not gender. It's about finding the root cause in order to solve the problem, not coating it in a layer of sexism to further alienate those who may already be ill.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I have seen the statistics on children killed by fathers vs mothers.
Women kill more children, it was around 60% or less from memory. But it is completely wrong to use that to claim women are inherently more violent toward children. It is just a statistical effect of our childcare arrangements.

Women are only more likely to commit infanticide if you ignore contact hours and particularly lone contact hours at home.

If you allow for the number of single mothers vs single fathers, and child contact hours in couples, fathers are much more of a danger per contact hour.

This is not a popular fact on this sub but I have seen the relevant studies, there is no room for argument.

But wait there's more! I haven't seen any numbers for lone contact hours i.e. when there is no partner present to help, but men have vastly less of that.

If the killings are mainly done when one parent is alone at home with the child (I don't know, but that seems to be the pattern in news reports I have read) fathers are very much more dangerous per lone contact hour at home than mothers.

[–]LordCharidarn 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Interesting. Where have you seen this?

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't recall. One was a big study on violent injuries to children done using several years of US CPS data.
Another was Australian.
There has been a lot of work done on it around the world because it is a common and serious problem.

[+]kennat91 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I find it completely wrong to define every violent offender as mentally ill. Violence comes from men's desire to dominate other men, women, acquire resources/power and from fear/aggression. Those are male desires and traits that come out more in a more uncivilised culture.

Women's aggression comes out in more passive aggressive forms. You can't label biological functions as all just a vague mental illness.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're being simply sexist. You cited an article linking testosterone and aggression that was actually asking the question and quoting many different sources with no absolute ending.

Finally, some subtleties of the hormonal status’ relation with aggressiveness are still to be clarified, so that more pertinent conclusions could be drawn.

Then you go onto say

Women's aggression comes out in more passive aggressive forms. You can't label biological functions as all just a vague mental illness.

Vague mental illness leads to baby killing? (No, I do not mean abortions, I'm cool with those.) Also, you're stating complete nonsense about biology right now. It's quite obvious you're out of your element and should just stop.

[+]kennat91 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

you're right, men being massively over represented in violent crime statistics has nothing to do with biology, it's all mental illness (which women suffer from equally)

you are safe in your mra way of thinking, i'm leaving

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Suffer from equally? So we DON'T need a 947 page diagnostic manual because all "mental illness" is the same, right? Doesn't affect either gender in different numbers?

[–]LordCharidarn 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you cite the sources you find this evidence in? Or are you merely being sexist?

[–]GunsGermsAndSteel 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aggression is not bad.

Aggression does not lead a person to stick a gun out a window.

Mental illness does that.

How is this disgusting. Do you must disagree with women just because you're an MRA. I'm a Men's Rights Activist and i completely agree with this woman. How is pointing out facts disgusting? The fact is all mass shooters are male.

[–]NibblyPig 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because she's saying men commit mass murder simply because they're male, not because of any other factor like mental illness. Which is incredibly fucked up. The men doing this are disturbed in the head, they don't shoot people just because they're men and that's what men do. How can anyone possibly think that?

Mental illness may manifest differently in men and women, but it's still the problem of mental illness that causes these things, not the fact they were male.

The fact that someone can say a person mass murdered due to being male and not because they were mentally ill is FUCKING RIDICULOUS.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i can kind of understand what they are getting at. it makes sense if you distinguish between trends within a group and generalizations about the entire group, which is also what Damore was trying to get at in his memo.

recently, Peterson has said the feminist movement reflects an interpretation of masculinity as only the tyrannical father and femininity as only the benevolent mother.

but it's not that these archetypes don't exist. its that they just tell half the story. men are violent for a reason, and part of that is to protect their family.

[–]NibblyPig 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If a rare affliction comes along and makes male rabbits go crazy and attack people, they're saying that male rabbits are to blame, rather than the affliction.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m not making a complete defense of their position. Just trying to get at the truths (or rather half-truths) they are basing this position on. Men do commit more violent crime on average. That’s true.

But feminists like this mangle archetypes to only see the bad in men and the good in women. I think there is such as thing as toxic masculinity, but that is not equal to masculinity as a whole. and there is such a thing as toxic femininity that is often swept under the rug by modern feminists

None of this implies mental illness isn’t a factor though

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

San Bernadino?

Brenda "I Don't Like Mondays" Spencer isn't just a mass killer; she was the first of the American school shooters.?

Both of those are women who were mass shooters. Thus your "fact is all mass shooters are male." is patently false.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Wikipedia gave 98% for male mass shooters.
No amount of niggling about the statistics is going to change the fact that in the west mass killings are practically all done by men.
Same with spree killings.
Serial killers are also overwhelmingly male.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I was only speaking to you saying "ALL." 2% is still milk. It isn't whole, but it ain't water.

I also think rather than going "OMFG! MEN ARE SO VIOLENT! EVIL EVIL EVIL!" We should be looking at WHY this is happening. Look at which specific mental disabilities/disorders/health issues affect men more in such a way as to use treatment rather than feminist divisiveness of "Fucking men are so awful and violent and we should be scared of all of them."

Like this link http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/12/mass-shootings-mother-jones-full-data/ shows A LOT of mental illness.

Here's another issue: Also, 98% of men are our mass shooters. Since 1982 there have been 92 mass shootings. Let's do some math!

Estimated population of the US this year: 325,365,189

Estimated gender difference, probably 2, so / 2: 162,682,594.5

Now divide 92 mass shooters by ^ that for a percentage of... 0.0000565518397%

[–]JebberJabber -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Whole milk is 3.2% fat, 2% fat is 62% of whole milk. Compared to mass shooters where 2% is 2% of the whole number.

It is not news that 0% of men are mass shooters, to a very high precision. Calm down, nobody was saying all men are killers. The point is that practically all killers are men. Everybody gets mental illness and the difference in incidents of the relevant types of illness are nowhere near enough to explain the difference in behaviour of mentally ill men.
So it makes perfect sense to look at what role the male social role has in expression of mental illness as violence. Biology is another obvious suspect but we can't change that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That percentage was a metaphor... Did you not get that, considering the math at the bottom?

[–]Draestyn2 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Mostly true, but there are some notable ones like the chick who shot a bunch of kindergarteners because she didn't like mondays

More than happy to admit that violence is predominantly a male thing though, idk what the outrage about it is.

[–]NibblyPig 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The outrage is because it's fine to say that mentally disturbed males tend to exhibit more violent tendencies than women, but it's not OK to say males are violent and that's why they do bad stuff. Because that's sexist and demeans all males, implying we're all violent monsters by nature.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Huh? I didn't mean that men are always on the edge of snapping like this guy, I'm saying that 90% of bar fights are men cause in a broad sense we are quicker to violence. I don't see a problem with acknowledging that, as long as you aren't implying that men are violent psychos.

[–]NibblyPig 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aha, then we're in agreement - but sadly the tweet doesn't just imply that it outright says it.

Just important to remember it's not because they're male. You have to look further up the decision tree at how they ended up at that point.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Gee, it wouldn't have anything to do with men being abused and neglected by their mothers or screwed over in divorces (by women.)

The maniac was going through a (acrimonious?) divorce and worked at the casino? Maybe he was on the hook for $$$ alimony or lose everything and then got fired? Also, his father was a psychopath and I wonder what his mother was like.

🤔 I'm speculating though.

There have been female mass murderers and shit, probably serial killers iirc.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

  1. Do your research before speculating, he had plenty of money.
  2. There have been many female serial killers, not very many "mass shooters."
  3. There have been a plethora of female leader who led wars so... Other than mass shooters, which is a VERY new term (read: ~50 years rather than ~500) women have been just as murderous.

Male violence is now skewed due to western culture's views on wars beginning with WWI when only men were sent to battle, which as you should know, still stands true today.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, the reason is because islam doesn't trust women to carry out these vile attacks. If you are going to be a feminist, at least look at the rwal reason women aren't more often disgusting mass hooters.

[–]Proteus_Marius -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

JM Black is offering up an alternative fact, at best.

It's probably more like leveraging a human tragedy to promote a passive-aggressive agenda.
