When I was a virgin, I already had most of my sexual preferences formed. After gaining sexual experience, my preferences were confirmed. My experiences shaped my ability to determine if someone was good at actually meeting my sexual preferences (are they skilled/unskilled).

My sexual experience narrowed down the body types of men I prefer and am turned off by. I also learned from experience that I dislike certain sex acts. Although for some sex acts, I didn’t need to experience them to know I don’t want them

You find something that you didn't know about and now you do. (honestly you can think i'm talking about food here and the meaning will not change, that's how experience in general work).

I mean. We all learn more about ourselves and what we like by trying things and having experiences. I certainly have better refined and shaped the exact things I like and don't like over time because I tried different things and landed on the stuff I like the most.

I think you're going to find that most people think of negative experiences, rather than positive ones, when looking into a new sexual partner. Ie, "I don't want someone who asks for a blowjob first thing in the morning" rather than "I'll only take someone who is amazing at head."

Novelty and new relationship feelings can make people feel exciting and fun, so even if they aren't as amazing at making you cum, you still want to try and help them learn, and then the sex can become amazing. For me at least, when it comes to past experiences, it's the bad parts that make me remember exes, and the good parts are overshadowed by the realisation that we weren't meant to be or he was a raging haemorrhoid.

All of my experiences have shaped what I like and don’t like. Sex is similar but different with different partners. I don’t think about people’s past when I’m with them. I think about them and what we like together.

Aren't all preferences, sexual or not, shaped by past experiences? Like, we all as people develop our preferences through how we feel about what we experience. And whether or not our preferences align with our situations or relationships largely determines compatibility. This is just how people of all genders work.

Most of my sexual preferences were formed early before I ever had sex, in my late teen years, and I’m still into them now.

Any filtering I did based on experience were experimental things that I was neutral to before but, after trying, I knew I did not like. These are very few though.

Everyone learns from experience what they like and don't like. Unless you ignore these likes and dislikes, it means your sexual experience should improve over time. This is something I've experienced only having one partner. It's not something you need to worry about unless you don't want to have sex the way your partner likes or they don't want to have it the way you like, but that sexual incompatibility would still be there even if you didn't already know about it.

Of course your past experiences influence your current preferences. If you try something and realize you hate it, you will probably actively avoid it and never seek it out again. Same thing if you try something you end up loving, you might request it with any future partners you have.

I think that having past relationships helps people (both women and men) learn what they like and what they don't like. If we are talking about a woman in her 20s with limited sexual experience, then I think sure she may change her preferences, but by 35 unless women are very sexually inexperienced I think the chances of her changing her mind about things are low. I say this as a 48 year old woman. I think in this situation she's expressed her preferences, if you don't like them, or are not on board then the two of you are not compatible, you should move on rather than expecting or hoping she will change.

I feel like I like what I like and he does what I like and vice versa. If he were to god forbid not be with me anymore, I don't think I'd massively alter if I was with someone else?

Kind of for me. I have only dated metalheads/Goths etc. I will no longer date any Scousers (liverpudlians) or neurodivergent guys. Also put off by Scandinavian type guys (tall, blonde, blue eyes).
