I find it funny that she sees the barista giving her a free shot as "helping a working class mother out", but refuses to help herself by not buying a $4 coffee in the first instance if she's too hard up to pay for the extra shot.

Also, a working class mother sending 5 kids to private school. Is she just oblivious to the existence of budgeting. Also if she's on money where she can send 5 kids to private school I'm guessing she's earning much more than a coffee shop barista

thousand dollar private school

Thousand? Where is she only paying a thousand for private school in San Francisco? Many (if not most) of the private schools (k-12) here are more expensive than the colleges. I don't know how she can afford 5 private school educations (~$25k * 5) on just two jobs.

[–]CptHammer_ 20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Become catholic, many schools discount the second, third, kid. By the time you get to the fourth & fifth they're eventually free. I have a coworker who does about 40hrs of volunteer work to put his six kid's through all for the cost of one kid. That's like paying one tuition for 20 years as you always have one in.

Also he works full time and the whole family does the volunteer work so everyone's hours go in the same tuition discount bucket.

[–]lvav68 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can confirm went to Catholic private school entire life, and that's what I read on about in the high school manual info. Some one luck's out if they have twins after twins....

[–]CptHammer_ 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In fairness if you find a woman to have sex with you six times, I consider that lucky.

[–]nam3sar3hard 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

a family of 8 catholics thats a lot of people feelin a lot of unearned guilt

[–]CptHammer_ 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unearned? A one family population explosion deserves a little bit of guilt.

[–]m_smith111 -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shame on you. Not funny.

[–]m_smith111 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah but I bet your coworker also tithes at least 10% of his income to a church affiliated with that school in order to get that discount. I went to a local Catholic school in my area, and since we were members of a different Catholic church that was not one of the 2 churches specifically affiliated/connected to my school, we did not receive a tuition discount that we would have received if we belonged to one of those 2 churches and tithed to them.

That is normally how things are done with these Catholic schools.

[–]CptHammer_ 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, he attends that affiliate church and I assume he tithes. I know they keep a close eye on his finances. I helped him out with some electric work for a church member once (at their home) and the lady insinuated that she expected the payment to be tithes on.

When we were done and I said, "I thought this was free." He made it sound like my help wasn't being compensated.

He said he thought it was too, but she paid us $200. He gave me half and asked me to respect her wishes. That guilt really works cause I felt like I had money for nothing. I gave to my church (even though I seldom do regularly) because God is everywhere right?

[–]m_smith111 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's messed up man. If you worked you earned that money. I could see if you did the work at the rectory or in the church, that would be a different story.

[–]CptHammer_ 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did the work thinking I wouldn't get paid so it was all a bonus anyway.

[–]LovelessDerivation 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Thousand dollar private school"

Th-that'd $200 per kid, per year btw... S-speaking arithmatically and da such.

STILL more private than any given FB page, tho.

[–]wellyesofcourse 313 points314 points315 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Is she just oblivious to the existence of budgeting.

She has five kids, so yes.

[–]f-u-c-c-boi 165 points166 points167 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She's living off the child support of five different men. She probably doesn't need to.

Also she decided to live in a city that is known for being incredibly expensive to live in.

[–]Randaethyr 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is she just oblivious

That she thinks she's working class with five kids in private school which she pays for rather than using vouchers points to yes.

That she doesn't realize asking an actual working class employee to steal from their employer and risk at the least termination isn't working class solidarity is the cherry on top.

[–]IpilotAnEVA 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well more kids means more financial aid for most schools so the cost decreases greatly with five kids. Still expensive as shit but not that crazy.

[–]SonOfLava 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, I had two working parents, who only had two kids, and neither of us went to private school

[–]TheSpreadHead 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

This is the typical liberal socialist who enjoys the many benefits of capitalism while also wanting the free aspect of socialism. They're fucking morons.

[+]Janders2124 -6 points-5 points-4 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

You just had to make it political huh? Couldn't help yourself.

[–]TheSpreadHead 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It's written clearly in her review. "I'm special and deserve more than the rest of you, for less". These people are socialists. And dumb as fuck. No one who truly believes in a capitalist society would ever have this mindset. Her life choices make her life harder than the rest of us, therefore she's owed something she hasn't actually earned. Only the left think this way.

[–]Janders2124 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So you seriously don't thing there any people who vote republican who don't feel entitled to things?

[–]TheSpreadHead 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I used the word stereotypical for a reason.

[–]CptHammer_ -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So you don't think Republicans can do socialist things? May I point you to corporate welfare? Bush bailed out the banks and car manufacturers, for no reason other than they are to big to fail. Somehow the common people would not know how to change money or build cars without mega corporations.

[–]BakinandBacon 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Come out of your bubble, we're here to laugh at one person's stupidity, not to blame an entire subset of the population. This is not political.

[–]TheSpreadHead 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Her mindset is stereotypical of a political ideology. It's worth pointing out. That's what these people actually think. And it's fucking retarded.

[–]BakinandBacon 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Her mindset is stereotypical of an idiot, we can agree on that, but it's actually worth zero to point out what you assume her political stance is for the sole purpose of demonizing "the other team." How about we blame this entitled woman for her stupidity and not "the left?"

[–]TheSpreadHead 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you don't think it's indicative of a broader problem we have nothing to discuss.

[–]BakinandBacon 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you think entitled, spoiled behavior is an attribute solely of "the left", then yeah. Let's both move on.

[–]lolimonreddit23 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And live in San Francisco.

[–]I_deleted 53 points54 points55 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

5 kids, she’s had plenty of extra shots

[–]bike_mouse 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This made me laugh more than it should have lol

[–]countblah1877 55 points56 points57 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

But she’s working class! Let’s do some math - 5 kids x 1000 for school, 2000 a month for mortgage/rent (gotta have room for the kids) plus say another 2-300 a week for groceries (800 a month) plus other various bills so say $1500 conservatively. Assuming she isn’t setting aside anything for savings, that’s a grand total of $9300 per month after tax earnings. That’s a shade under $112K per year AFTER TAXES. The OR tax burden is just a shade behind average in the US so say 30% Fed/State/Local you’re looking at $145K per year. Fuck me that’s more than twice the US annual income.

TLDR; she isn’t fucking working class. Take your free shot and shove it straight up your ass.

[–]MrHolte 24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, that $1000 a kid could be per term, or school year - maybe.

On the flip side, she's obviously married as otherwise she'd have said "working class SINGLE mom" for the extra sympathy so you can add an amount for whatever her husband earns, and as we know, women generally don't marry down so likely to be more than her.

[–]lonelypeasant2 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Usually private school is monthly at least from my experience. A k-8 school around me was around 5 grand a year so that's a really expensive school if 5x1000 a month but for high school around me it's pretty normal for it to cost over 10 grand a kid a year. So she's either full of shit or is extremely rich but is cheap.

[–]MrHolte 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The fuck are they doing with these kids if they're charging 10k a year - per kid?? That's some serious bank if you have a few hundred kids at 1m for every 100 kids, every financial year! I'm clearly in the wrong business.

[–]countblah1877 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

That’s cheap. There are schools near me in MD charging $20-$25K for K-12.

https://www.severnschool.com/page/admissions/tuition

https://www.indiancreekschool.org/page/admission/flexible-tuition-program/tuition--fees#

[–]MrHolte 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm from the UK so I assume K-12 is kindergarten to college age so what, like 12/13 year groups? Not sure what MD means though?

That's crazy as if you have 100 kids in 12 year groups at 30k each - that's 36m - every financial year!

Where does this money go as they can't possibly spend all that on their overheads.

[–]countblah1877 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

MD is Maryland (state abbreviation) and I’m not familiar with the UK system but it’s school years from 5/6-17/18 years old. As for what they spend it on, I couldn’t possibly begin to tell you. I do know they pay their teachers north of $100K. And these are small schools - maybe 4-500 total students K-12.

[–]oly_koek 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In LA there are schools that cost more than my college education.

Look up Harvard Westlake

[–]MrHolte 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

$38,400 for just tuition with a kid to teacher ratio of 7.5:1 so $288k revenue against every teachers wage of $69k at the lowest end, take off another $2k extra per kid to cover other overheads and it's $217k profit per 7.5 kids.

If you've got 100 in a K-12 school, that's roughly $33m PROFIT per year!

Someone please tell me my maths is wrong.

Edit: It's a 7-12 school, not K-12 so would be half at $16.5m profit but at that rate I'd start accepting younglings too.

[–]absoluteskeptic1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Buildings, taxes, and insurance aren't free. Also, for every teacher there's probably 3 staff doing paperwork, etc.

[–]absoluteskeptic1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

This private international school is about $20,000 per year. Also, they expect additional 'donations.' And there are lots of extras like day trips and uniforms. $$$$$

http://www.horizon.ac.jp/admission/tuition-and-fee/

[–]countblah1877 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Even if the cost of private school is 1000 a month total (which it isn’t) that only changes the $145K to $82K. Higher than the national average. Doesn’t change the math if she’s married or not does it? I think it’s safe to assume her husband doesn’t spend all his money on whiskey and cigars. She can still go fuck a light socket with her $4 coffee.

[–]poopsinshoe 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You'd be lucky to find a studio apartment in San Francisco for $2,000 a month.

She probably justifies her wants as needs.

She needs coffee because it helps her function.

She needs the extra flavour because that would have made her day, etc.

[–]MrHolte 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So she NEEDS to pay for it too then in my book.

[–]Sidaeus 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

[–]CynthiaKarin 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

California schools are garbage so everyone who can manage to go private does.

[–]m_smith111 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank the illegal immigrants and the CA sanctuary city policies for that. Shout out to Gavin Newsome, Maxine Waters, Dianne Feinstein, Kamala Harris, Jerry Brown, and the rest of the crusty crew for this predicament.

Outside of the inner city it gets better, but not by much.

As a graduate of a SF public high school (although 25+ years ago). The schools are good, 90% of the teachers are fantastic (10% just burned out).

The problem is most of the students come from broken homes/neighborhoods. A good kid from a good home will go to a UC or Ivy. All the others won't.

[–]MrHolte 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I don't begrudge her that as she's doing something to give her a kids a better start. If you can, you should.

[–]PussyWrangler46 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

“In 2011, the OECD went deeper into analyzing the results from PISA and looked specifically at the role of private schools. It found that while students who attend private schools tend to perform better than students who attend public ones, this was primarily because these students tend to come from higher socio-economic status families. Furthermore, it concluded that “students in public schools in a similar socio-economic context as private schools tend to do equally well” and that “there is no evidence to suggest that private schools help to raise the level of performance of the school system, as a whole.”

“In 2014, two researchers from the University of Illinois found that when you control for the socio-economic backgrounds of students, public schools in the U.S. often outperform their private counterparts. As outlined in the book The Public School Advantage, they concluded that the higher scores found at U.S. private schools occur largely because their students tend to come from privileged backgrounds, and once those backgrounds are taken into account, public schools perform at least as well and often better than private ones.”

Sending your kid to private school doesn’t do anything extra for them, just dents your wallet

[–]sftktysluttykty 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Personally, I choose private over public not really for test results or anything like that, but because I like the environment, curriculums, scheduling, and structure better.

[–]MrHolte 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do parents of private school kids get more of a say over anything the school teaches beyond the basic national curriculum as they're paying them?

[–]MrHolte 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm wary of anything that "controls for privilege" as it's inherently subjective when trying to deal with statistics but I take your point. No kids, not my area of expertise and naturally assumed. I'll chalk it up to a TIL, cheers.

[–]PussyWrangler46 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess a TL;DR would be the richer you are the better you do

Surprise surprise lol

Truer words were never said!

[–]absoluteskeptic0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Private schools have the advantage that one's kids will be around/network with wealthier kids who are motivated to succeed in life. This doesn't really matter at the elementary school level, but it's why Ivy League schools are the best places to go to university (generally speaking).

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Plus the $1000 private school for her five kids. If you can afford to send your kids to private school, you can afford to pay $2 for an extra shot.

[–]DebatesNotBans 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I also find it funny that she's supposedly in such financial distress, but she doesnt think to stop having kids.

I literally pay 80 cents for my cup of coffee at the gas station and it is really good, it comes out of one of those machines that grinds the beans for every cup and auto froths the milk and you have like a half dozen choices of types of coffee. I also don’t get it every day if I feel I can’t afford it cuz I know that even at 80 cents that still would add up to around me spending appx $160 for about 200 days worth of coffee. I could use that money for something else, I don’t need caffeine that bad. Also I calculated out that I can buy a 1kg bag of beans for $3 and get 20cups out of it easily with a single cup French press. That’s 15 cents a cup. So all these people paying $4 a cup, that’s ridiculous. Same with bottled water, I fill my own bottles at home and keep them in the fridge.

If this is a true story, she is increasing with finances, as she would be getting a $4 cup of coffee probably 365 days a year, that’s $1460.00 and most people but something to eat to go with their coffee like a cookie or muffin. Easily another $2 minimum there. So at least $730.00. So st the very least she is blowing $2k+ a year on star bucks. Then that $1k she mentioned for private school, that would be $1k a month, per kid.

In theory, that could be do-able (assuming "working class" means a trade job & not retail).

What's not acceptable is throwing yourself an entitled pity party b/c of choices you made (having 5 kids, potentially being unmarried when she had 'em [always possible a tragedy happened to the father], sending the kids to a private school) & excepting the world to bow to your greatness.

[–]UncannyMachina 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It completely depends on your school district. If you have to go through a metal detector to get to class you may want to go to a private school, if you can.

[–]keystothemoon 17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Working retail, I'd see shit like this all the time.

I worked in a museum gift shop for a while and our first question at the register was, "Are you a member?" Because people who pay for a museum membership got a discount. It was a common occurrence for people to say something like, "I could be." In other words, "why don't you, an underpaid, overworked employee, risk losing your job by lying and saying I presented a membership ID when I can't be bothered to actually pay for one?" This may sound less entitled than OPs post but it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Folks would buy some shit and then act like them buying a bunch of stuff meant I could just throw in some extra items for free, like the hourly cashier has the freedom to create a customer rewards program right then and there.

Then of course the museum board members would come in like they were something special. One lady I had to follow around the store for an hour taking things she was interested in up to the register for her like I was some doting butler.

People are pricks.

[–]Tom_bork 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah i used to work in retail for a while and i never put up with this shit. i would get complaints all the time and honestly i never understood why i never got fired - i think its because i worked so hard off the shop floor, but yeah. there would be customers who huff and puff and id just smirk and walk off, or cunts that take their phones out halfway through a conversation. byeeeeeeeeee

I agree, but the labor costs are such a fucking joke.

[–]RolleiflexPro 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

For mechanics or baristas? You're buying a lot of experience (generally, obviously there are shitty mechanics around especially if you shop only by price) when you have a professional fix something your life depends on.

[–]curt10curt10 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Mechanics. And I agree again, but trust me, the labor guide mechanics go by is a joke. It's "where they get you". Sure, they are experienced. Sure, they are professionals. The book says this job is 2 hours of labor at 250 an hour, but it takes about 30 minutes in all reality, and it will still sit there for damn near the full time.

[–]GoyInTheStripedPJs1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Some people are so entitled, it seriously makes me cringe.

Think about this... If all of the pleasantries and conveniences of modern society were to fall away, leaving mankind in it's natural state, suddenly all of the stuff we tell ourselves about equality/egalitarianism/etc. would disappear in an instant. There would be no "human rights" left, no safety net, nothing to mitigate the effects of (supposedly) unearned advantages like intelligence, strong genetics, etc.. In this raw state of human life -- the way we lived for thousands upon thousands of years -- the strong would survive and the weak would perish.

I don't know why this post made me think of that exactly lol, but I guess it's because people's sense of entitlement or of "deserving" certain things is a genuine example of a social construct. I dont mean to commit a naturalistic fallacy here but I think it is worth mentioning that the current state of affairs is a huge departure from the natural law by which mankind has lived for the majority of its existence. What effect will this have on our evolution, when we artificially mitigate the power of natural selection? Are we dooming the future if mankind to weakness and stagnation?

It’s called “broke in America” Car Cable Cell phone House Private school $4 coffee 2500 calories a day Warm bed Etc

It’s called being rich, not poor, or even working class People in America don’t know what poor is—we are all friggin entitled

I’m hoping that note was a joke

Watch the 60 minutes clip on “starving in America” By scott Pelley In 2008 recession, near Disneyland

At first listen, it is sad to hear a kids tummy grumbles at night—and had to ask the church for food

However, that is the best they could come up with the kids are beautiful Well fed, well educated, well spoken, well dressed well behaved They are everything good about America Not bad

Show that video to a kid in Africa who is actually starving and they would be confused and wouldn’t know what to think

If you turned down the volume, the kids could have been the state champion soccer team or debate team

I’m exhausted that no matter what we have We want more

What the hell is she doing buying an expensive coffee in the first place

Ugh

Maybe don't squeeze out 5 kids if you can't even afford coffee.

[–]popkween 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

~$12000 a year for private ELEMENTARY school, so like $5000 a month (assuming none of her kids are in high school) just for school????? Smh she should probably just to stick to instant coffee for a while

[–]firekitty3 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“On the house” what a bitch. She’s taking money away from the coffee shop owner and possibly the barista (if the barista is responsible for all the “on the house” discounts). If she’s struggling so much, then how about not wasting money on overpriced coffee.

[–]JuniperFuze 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What? I don't understand why people use having children as some kind of reason for the rest of us to bend over backwards and help with those kids. You chose to have children which means YOU are responsible for their care. It is not on us to make it easier for you, we do not own you anything because you popped out a few kids. You make choices, you deal with them. I chose not to have kids and i'll sit here with my extra shot of espresso that I paid for like a responsible god damn adult.

If you're day is literally ruined by not receiving $2 worth of coffee for free, you're living a very sheltered life.

  • 5 kids
  • Private School
  • 2 Jobs
  • Broke to even afford "Starbucks" and asks for another one on the House.DENIED

She could have afforded it if she didn't bore out 5 kids.

Where is the planned parenthood? Nobody can just take out 5 kids.

I bet she is the Village Bicycle cause no one can have 5 kids.

/r/therewasanattempt to hide her identity. LOL

She's a work of art. Here is her latest review:

So I woke up in the morning and I found myself needing a cup of coffee in the great state of California (god bless) and I so happened to find myself at 11am at xxxxxxxxx which is a beautiful place and don't get me wrong I love the couches they are very comfy but where they exceed in comfort they lack in the quality of coffee. Their coffee was overpriced and tasted like my cat shut in my mouth and then my son put some whipped cream in it after

Yes it was smooth, yes it had great consistency but at the end of the day it still tasted like shit.

Get your shit together I'll see you tomorrow.

Best, Me

If you can't afford to pay for your kids school they need to be at a different school. They'll benefit a lot more from a better home life than a "better" school.

I hope they know that billionaire doesn’t mean they have billions in cash and gold. Like Warren buffet. He still lives in a house he bought in the 50s. His wealth is in stock. The money he uses to buy stocks is the company money. He owns a large part of Berkshire Hathaway but it’s not in cash. He’s vowed to give it all away.

[–]Serpardum -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hope you know that Warren Buffet could of given that stock to people who need it, not to make more money.

There is a reason usury is forbidden by God.

He has the capital. He has the wealth. He is hording it.

But, go ahead, believe what you will.
