Hi redpill girls, I am a new redditor and this is my first post. There are more details to the story but basically my partner, since we first got together, mentions his ex anecdotally very often. Anyway, what bothers me even more than the anecdotes (though they are really unnecessary and annoy me to no end-- though I always listen attentively and smile) is the emotional things he says. The nostalgic, reminiscent things. They were together for about 8 or so years and have known each other since childhood. She dumped him about 7 years ago and left him broken hearted. I know he isn't over what happened between them. I wonder if she is his one true love, even though he cares about me very much and wants a future together. I trust him in that sense, which is a plus. He is a good guy. I don't know much of their story. I don't ask or care to know about someone's past; he is the one who talks about her first. That's how I know. This has left me feeling heartbroken (I feel sad daily and I cry a lot over it) and I don't know how to talk to him about it or should I even try?

EDIT: Thanks to all for responding. My first post went well. You girls and guys are so helpful. I hope the discussion will keep going as I do need a good kick in the bum to be more assertive about this. I enjoy reading your comments and responding to them as best I can. Let's not forget to redpill this situation though. I don't like to label things but this is where we're posting. Of course we all know it's disrespectful for someone in a couple to pine for an ex, male or female. However, he was heartbroken and his left with nothing after years of building a life with someone, and we can all agree that that can seriously damage a man. BUT, it's only been about 8 years, no marriage, no kids, so no reason to be this emotional over it! I am not trying to make excuses for him, as posters here have said, and as I have seen (only I know him) he is handling this in an immature way, and again, he is being childish by pining over a girl.

*****Edit 2: Hi everyone! Thank you again for all your help. I've been giving people a chance to respond and I will come back to write an update about how the conversation went. I still need time but will speak with him soon. Be back!

(UPDATE)**hi to everyone! I spoke to my BF a few days ago, so sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. Anyway, he says he has no feelings whatsoever for her but the only reason he spoke about her was because he was completely happy with HIMSELF, meaning who and how he was as a man, with her. He says he was very happy back then because he "had it all"- a social life, hobbies, etc. What do you guys think of this reasoning? He wasn't really comforting to me about it, in fact it was a quick conversation and he insisted it was about him and not her. I still feel insecure, but I should trust him, correct?
