So long story short. SO is 24, I am 22. We have been together almost two years and have talks about marriage. We have been friends for 4 years and we are currently in an LDR. He lives in California and I am from the UK. We are perfect for each other. However there is one thing that bothers me. His lack of job prospects and doesn't know what to do with his life because he dropped out of college some time ago.

We plan to see each other either Sept or Oct this year and I have finally graduated so I can spend about 6months with him. I will pay for the plane tickets/travel insurance while he will support me while I'm there, while I live with his parents. We plan to get married after those 6 months or so and have me move to the US.

Yesterday he introduced this idea to me:

He wants to go get his bachelors degree in Physics which is 4 years and possibly a masters? But mainly a BA. While I get a job and support us both. However, I feel uncomfortable having a financial burden and supporting two people since I don't even have a job myself. He is also thinking about getting a loan and I hate loans. I feel like this will all build resentment because my dream was to get my own place with him but how do I support an apartment in CALIFORNIA on a newly-graduated one person salary and his loans?

I think 4 years is too long and job opportunities for physics aren't that good unless you get a masters and even then, it's not that good?

We talked about this more and I told him how I felt.

He told me he will find an alternative solution.

What is your input?
