Just performed a small social experiment on the Am I the Asshole thread to some not so suprising results. I posed a hypothetical question as a fact on that subreddit to play a form of devil's advocat for men's rights and the responsibilities of partners in a relationship. I simply posed the question "Am I the asshole for wanting my girlfriend to wear makeup?" I go on to describe a relationship where a woman begins to grow comfortable in the relationship and stops presenting her best self on dates not wearing makeup and dressing down. I add that at all turns I am striving to keep my apperances up.

Of course every woman chimes in with anger. Many not even offering up a reasoning. All condeming me as an asshole.

When I set out the argument that I deserve the reciprocation for the effort I put in and that she should want to present herself well the comments fell on deaf ears.

They argued that people change and I shouldn't be so superfical and I should adapt to the changes the partner makes.

The shocking thing was the lack of open mindedness on the topic but, what could you really expect on the internet.

I feel like if the tables were turned in a situation where a man was gaining weight or was wearing slobby clothes these wouldn't be the same sentiments.

This was an eye opening example of a woman perceives a man with standards as evil. When it probably wouldn't lean that way on the flip side.
