I'd add an 11: Implement one thing after the other. If you try to stop smoking, stop drinking, stop eating junkfood, start meditating, start exercising, start reading and start writing all at once, then you'll certainly fail.

It is no wonder that people who have problems with self-control in one area eventually start to fail in other areas. Failure to have self control over one thing (E.G. CC riders for women and video games for men) both lead to larger problems (postwall overweight harpies and fedora tipping "niceguys".) That is why we as a species like fit/thin/healthy partners. Taking care of one's self is a huge outward indicator of high levels of self-control which is seen as desirable in a mate. It reduces volatility. Self-control lowers the possibilities of cheating or breaking a familial unit, as well as steady work and food on the table resulting in better outcomes for offspring.

Self-control is a fickle creature. Our personality is mostly shaped by our upbringing. Monk mode can be a great way to develop on the inside as a person and control your own destiny.

Food is fuel, but you need the right fuel. Learn to cook, how cooking modifies the chemical properties of your food, learn about physiological effects of food. Eat healthy and it can be still extraordinary delicious.

Also trust your appetite, be in touch with your body, it can tell you which food you need right now. Have you ever had a craving for salty snacks, that's your body telling you about the lack of minerals. Have you ever had a big appetite for eggs after a good workout? You need protein? Pasta for lunch during after an exhausting morning at workout? Carbs for fast energy.

Pay attention to your needs.

Gave up cigarettes recently (260+ days), started eating healthy and working out over the past month, and always have issues dealing with nostalgia, remorse and feelings of bitterness and regrets. I'm not sure if this came from somewhere else, but it hit me deep. I think most guys going through Anger here need this to sink in as well. A vengeful mind might make for great motivation, but it will ultimately drain you.

I plan to do 6 months of monk mode. My day begins at 6 AM when I wake up from work and ends at 8PM when I get home from Muay Thai and Jijitsu. I want to accomplish the following things.

Lose 40 lbs
Get to a point in Muay Thai where I can start thinking about competing.
Get to 1200 club (bench+squat+deadlift; at 1070 already)
Pick up my guitar again and learn to play a whole song.
Finish my backlog of books that are on my kindle.
Be able to run 5 miles in under 40 minutes.
Do 1 pull up. Hopefully number 1 helps on this one.

I'll definitely incorporate your list to maximize my results. Thanks for the post.

Awesome post. I just wrote down my monk mode last night.

No porn . ever. Your not 16 anymore. Women touch your dick, not men. And your are a man.

Read daily. Either stoicism or red pill side bar.

No Facebook. Social media is for girls. You're a man.

Lift everyday. If you can't lift due to soreness or injury , you will work on stretching or mobility .

Meditate daily. Non negotiable

No sugar, kids eat sugar . You are a man.

Decide quickly and follow through on your word. No pussyfooting , delaying decisions or backing off of your word. Your word is your worth.

Early to bed and early to rise.

reach out to someone You love daily.

seek the council of greater men when You need help.

take responsibility for you're needs.

Live in the moment. This is done through meditation.

Journal. Everyday.

This is you're life. It may end at any moment. Make it one worth living.

Great list. I have been doing most of these except I have been putting off #6: creating something every day. I'll make it a point now to not go a day without contributing at least a small piece to one of my projects.

Also, I love the wording in #7. There are so many people who want to drain your time (i.e., turn your day into a 'nothing' day). Many of these people have good intentions (e.g., friends want to hang out and drink for the 1000th time). I've learned to politely decline, unless I strongly believe the social interaction will be worth it.

This question may sound idiotic, but its the one thing I have trouble figuring out.

Does anyone have any advice for saving time with cooking?

I need to eat over 3500 calories per day. I try to make decent, balanced meals, but cooking takes up so much time. Cooking decent meat, preparing salads and other cooked vegetables, etc, then cleaning everything I use, and then eating the food, ends up taking up hours of my day that could be put to better use. Its hard as fuck to reach 3500 calories with raw vegetables and other healthy foods.

The only thing I can think of is throwing a bunch of different shit into a slow cooker and having that for supper every night.

A word to the wise if you're drinking too much and intend to scale it back. The side effects of alcohol withdrawal are awful, and include nightmares, agitation, confusion, disorientation, visual and auditory hallucinations, tactile hallucinations, fever, high blood pressure, heavy sweating, anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia and death.

If you're reducing your alcohol intake, taper it off. You can avoid most of the symptoms that way.

Implementeret check list and rehersing;

Your mind will try to weasel its way out of the rules you place. By forcing yourself to check every rule you put on yourself and reherse these rules, you ground yourself and assume the steering wheel easier.

Now I have to go to the gym, not because Im thinking as much of my future self, but because I cant go to bed without rule #2 crossed out.

I agree with most of what you've written, but point 4 is a bit silly. I'm a medical school student-- reading is pretty much what I have to do to survive. Reading extra is what puts me ahead of others in my class, and it prepares me for my career as a physician.

To be honest, people who educate themselves are often the difference between the mediocre sheep-brained people and the truly successful. Not specifically referring to formal education or reading, necessarily, since history has shown plenty of dropouts who have been extremely successful.

Unless you were referring to something like motivational reading, I'm incredulous that you'd write that with serious intent to help others.

I love point number 7. It's vital that you are aware of what sort of content that you allow into your day. The sort of people that you allow around you, the media that you take in, the habits and actions that you participate in, the energies that you allow to affect you. You have to guard that frame constantly.

Make sure you look and perform like a young god, everything else is noise and or irrelevant to how good you are.
